I ended up leaving and going home to measuring the space I had in mind for the piece of furniture. I called and was told I would receive a call back with the exact measurements. Never received a call. Then I emailed. No reply. Not sure how they make sales. I have moved on since.

Previous review updated to reflect the experience of that purchase which was 5 star worthy all the way. That's the bottom line. Details follow for those interested in knowing more. DESIGN -SALES STAFF TOP NOTCH SERVICE I'd been looking for a table for my kitchen nook in the mode of "I'll know it when I see it". The one I once saw that could have been "it" was from a high end furniture maker that is usually "to the trade" only and way outside my budget. Make that WAY. In hunting for that table, my husband and I stopped in Haven Home last month and there "it" was. Well, potential to be "it" with several changes. So I was delighted to learn the table on the floor that caught our eyes had been made for Haven Home by a local guy and yes, they said, they were certain he could modify it for us as a custom piece. The friendly staff (they are all design professionals at Haven Home which is a great asset for the store) was happy to contact the furniture maker and learn that he could make this for us in solid alder, with an un-distressed base, change the top to solid from planked and modify the plinth. Great to know and "it" was found! Also, although he does a good job on his own finish work and prefers to finish his own creations, they also reached agreement with the furniture maker to provide the table unfinished so we could have the local fantabulous finishing company we have used for other custom furniture finish this for us. That was a particularly good thing, as it would have been a deal braker not to have that finish company involved. (See Morgan's http://www.yelp.com/biz/morgans-fine-finishes-bend ) Haven Home staff also negotiated a price that was fair all around, for them, the furniture maker and us. They arranged a "meet me" at the store or our home, as we preferred (we chose the store) to talk to the furniture maker in person and then were comfortable with us following up with him at his shop to verify the table was as discussed before delivery to the finishing expert. In turn, the furniture maker was happy to have us do that as well as he is dedicated to customer satisfaction with the final product. This transaction could not have been made any easier a process for us as buyers. Fun too to work with the furniture maker. We are pleased with the outcome of the table itself. CONNECTING COMMUNITY BASED CRAFTSMEN WITH BUYERS Another great service is provided by Haven by tying community craftsmen to local buyers who would not otherwise know of them or maybe use them even if they did. It was that Haven had his items on the floor for us to discern quality and stood behind the work that gave us the confidence to contract this furniture maker. This in turn supports a local crafstman who has created jobs for the two or three folks that work with him. In a community where unemployment is still in double digit figures, that kind of crasftsman - business support is a very good thing. USE THEM OR LOSE THEM While some other furniture businesses in Bend that existed before the 2008 downturn, like this one did, have been knee-capped or even done in by the home building collapse in Bend after that time, Haven Home continues on. Although it is clear the economy has had a toll on them too; as example the store is not chock-a-block with accessories and gift items and furniture as it used to be. I imagine the smaller inventories are driven by economics. So use them or lose them for local speciality stores like this. . Based on our experience, Haven Home provides top notch service and is s a great place to find quality items, both national branded and locally created. We will be happy to be their customers again. EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED TO EVERYTHING ELSE - ACCESSIBIILTY Worth nothing that once upon a time Haven Home was in a building that was inaccessible to people like me (I have MS) who can't navigate steps. I lost out on equal access to their goods and services and they lost out on my business. Now Haven Home is one of the most easily accessible home furnishing stores, both in the door and around the store for barrier free shopping. Now I am able to spend my money with their store. As unbelievable as it is, there are businesses opening all the time in new spaces in Bend, even 23 years after the ADA was passed, that have equal access barriers in place. Everyone in the community loses when that continues. Everyone benefits when places operate like Haven Home with equal access.

Although they've been in their new digs for a while, we had not yet been inside given that previously we felt the items for sale, while lovely, were too arts and crafts era oriented for our home. But today we found a nice expansion of accessories and home items. The store's merchandise is still arts and crafts centric but with other items added and we ended up making a couple of purchases. The goods for sale range from table linens to lamps to soaps to jewelry to wall art to birdhouses to table top accessories to candles to decorative books to greeting cards to vases to area rugs... I just scratched the surface. If you like birds, nature themes, botanicals, great textures and colors there is probably something here for you even if the Bungalow era isn't your look. Prices are fair too, not low but reasonable for a downtown store. It's also a well lit comfortable space for shopping with wide aisles to make it pleasant. (The sardine can aisles and product spacing in some stores is a puzzle for how the owners think It is good for customers.) And in this case the reward for the owners is that, as example today, the shoppers included a dad pushing a stroller and a woman using a mobility aid. Good access brings in customers. Footnote for my "good access" comment above: there is a one step down to the lower part of the store so if you use a wheelchair, just a "head up" about that barrier to full participation.

The selection is broad, the choices are handsome, browsing around is fun (and sometimes educational), and it's all fairly affordable. The owners also aren't purists as they mix in Art Nouveau, Asian, and Northwest Lodge elements that influence the overall style. Gayle and I stopped in during our recent visit to Bend. There were actually several items that caught my attention that I was ready to buy. As the Man of the House, I pulled rank and then got it yanked right out from under me! Maybe next time.....
