I thought the 4-person Borders Deck crew (3 men & a women) were the most professional group of contractors to visit our home for any reason in the 23 years we've been in our Colorado Springs home.
Last August our objective was to replace our 12'x20'aging redwood deck surface with redwood. Our deck surface is 9' above the back yard patio. We started the process of replacing the deck surface by contacting three different deck companies with good reviews from the Internet. The first did not impress me over the phone so I didn't bother making an appointment to receive a free estimate. I scheduled visits for free estimates with the two other deck companies, including Borders. The second company had very good reviews but then arrived at our home an hour plus after the scheduled meeting time. I was only marginally impressed with what they had to say about replacing the surface of our deck. A few days later, Rusty from Borders Deck showed up to provide us a free estimate. He was on time, very professional and extremely knowledgeable about what tasks had to be done to replace our deck surface. He also provided unsolicited recommendations about improving the safety of the 14 steps with a landing in the middle, from the surface down to the back patio. He also explained to us the option of using composite planks rather than just replacing the redwood with redwood. The composite decking Borders installs has a 25-yr guarantee and would improve the resale value of the home. Our selection of the company to replace or deck surface and stairs was easy; Borders Deck Care. Borders was scheduling about 6 weeks out, which meant it would be mid-October before they got started.
Borders mid-October start on our deck was delayed by a week by very cold weather and snow fall. The following week the crew of four showed up on time as scheduled. I was very impressed with the crew leader and the other three members as well as their teamwork throughout the project. Everybody seemed to know what their tasks were. There was no standing around BSing. I never heard any bad language or disagreements between team members. The crew members didn't seem to mind me standing in my back yard watching them from time to time, asking individuals questions about the task at hand, and my regularly asking the crew leader about the status of progress. Despite numerous interruptions by hard snowfalls late last October and early November, the Borders crew completed the deck sooner than I thought the weather elements would allow. We now have a deck surface and stairs of Fiberon Good Life capped composite decking (color - Cottage Gray) with side mounting; a deck we are very proud to invite our grandchildren, friends and neighbors on to. read more
