I have eaten here several times. I avoid sugar and they have a select few "no sugar added" selections. The store is always clean and the staff friendly and helpful and it's fairly busy, but.... Whereas I have enjoyed the frozen custard here, the only real shortcoming here comes from information from the staff. Every time I go, without fail, I inquire about the low-sugar menu items (to make sure they are still available or if anything had changed) and each time I get puzzled, quizzical looks and have to clarify the difference between "sugar-free" and "no sugar added." There IS a difference and invariably the high-school -age child behind the counter has to be gently educated as to the difference. It's a minor nuisance but avoidable. It just slows things down uneccessarily. read more

We fell in love with Bops when our daughter first started attending Mississippi State a few years ago. We were so happy to find one down here on the coast! My favorite is the strawberry patch that has custard, strawberries, hot fudge and roasted pecans. They have shakes, concretes, and sundaes with all kinds of toppings to choose from. We visited this location twice while staying at the hotel across the street. On Friday night, the young lady with the snake bite piercings was very friendly, which made me want to return the next night. There was a brief five-minute wait before someone came to take our order, and on the first night, they politely said, "Ring the bell when you're ready." However, our experience on Saturday night around 10 PM was very different. The staff member with a ponytail and curly bun had the worst attitude I have ever experienced, was not welcoming, and borderline rude. While the ice cream was good, customer service is everything. When I kindly mentioned this to her shift leader, I overheard her say, "Someone is complaining about me, but I don't really care," which was extremely disappointing. Overall, the ice cream is enjoyable, but the extremely poor attitude and inconsistent customer service ruined the experience. I found this (my second) Bop's Frozen Custard conveniently near an exit as one drives down the Gulf Coast. It even has a drive-through window, so it's high on convenience during a road trip. Their custard is customizable, and I benefitted from trying a mint and oreo shake; where a chocolate custard base overwhelms the mint flavor, this vanilla base left a much more balanced result. The custard is not bad on price, but it is all dairy (and presumably some egg), so this isn't really a place for those with dietary constraints. A dog cup comes free with purchase, offering both a small scoop of the custard and a doggie bone. The particular dog I had with me ate the custard but not the bone-shaped treat, but given the gusto with which she licked the custard off of the bone, I think she's a fan. read more

It cost us $30+ and when we picked it up I was less than impressed... it looked like they melted cookie dough ice cream into a "loaf" mold, froze it, then plopped it on a plastic tray!
