Well, anyway, the chemists here were friendly, patient and helpful, and pleasantly chatty. Although it was a little on the small side in here, there was still enough seating for people to park themselves on while they waited for their prescriptions. There was also a rather exciting looking machine to one side of the room that looked rather intriguing... it offered a whole host of tests and readings to let you know how healthy you are, Calculating your BMI and heart rate. Ironically though, I didn't have any change on me, as I was expecting to have to break a note for the box of medicine rather than loose some shrapnel.

It feels like a fifties chemist for some reason- the decor is a bit dated and the window displays have a homemade feel and an endearing cheerfulness. The staff are really polite and discreet like they feel the weight of their responsibility as chemists and this adds to the old-fashioned feel. It's all quite nice really. The only issue I have is that in keeping with this retro style it is only open till 5pm on weekdays and Saturday and closed entirely on Sunday..which seems to be a day when one often needs more aspirin!

I was in the process of buying a 32 pack of paracetamol and the pharmacist said "They're 79." I just sort of stared and repeated what he said. £79 and 79p sounded equally unfeasible. Perhaps he meant ... £7.90? The cheapest you'd ever pay for even the tiniest bottle of headache medication in Canada is about $5. Anyway, by the end of the transaction, the pharmacist probably thought I was an idiot and I left to cure my headache feeling like a bank robber. In summary, Day Lewis has the usual Pharmacy stuff in smaller supply than some larger chains, and also has the (apparently usual) ridiculously low prices.

Superdrug at Churchill Square is one of three Superdrug branches in Brighton centre, alongside…read morestores on Western Road and in the Railway Station, it is by far the biggest and best branch, located in a rather central location in Churchill Square Shopping Centre, that however isn't saying it is a fantastic store though, it is just the best of the rest, kind of like saying Liverpool were the best of the rest after City in the Premier League, that doesn't mean they're getting a trophy. I called in here to pick up a few drinks with the selection at the Western Road store being diabolical, the selection here was slightly better with multiple fridges, however, most of which seemed to include either water or coca cola branded beverages, I presume Superdrug now have some form of deal with Coca Cola as it seems they've removed all other rivals such as Lipton Iced Tea (which I used to like) and Pepsi. I decided to pick up a Fanta Zero, having previously acquired a coupon. The staff member at the till rudely questioned whether it was still valid, and looked at it like she'd never seen a coupon before, she even questioned it with another member of staff, when it was indeed valid. This is pretty understandable, but no apology and making me feel like a criminal for using a coupon is not good service at all. They did have a satisfactory product range in regards to most other products. Poor customer service and handling of coupons, issues with the selection of drinks (the Fuze tea they have used to replace the Lipton iced teas here are also around 40% more than they sell for in supermarkets including the Co-op with the multibuy offer only making the price average) 2* - Slightly generous rating, mainly down to it being the better branch in the city and okay in some, albeit few areas.

What's with the flurescent lighting and the hot, stuffy air?…read more I've been to other branches of Superdrug and happily ran around the store stocking up on toiletries and beauty products. This particular branch in the Churchill Centre however, always gives me a headache. The lights are always on full beam like I'm about to be strip-searched and interrogated for something I haven't done. And don't ask me why, but they either don't like using air con or they always have it switched to warm. Tropical heat might encourage some customers to stock up on sun lotion, after sun and flip-flops. It just makes me head for the door!

On my visits here, this new shop always seems be busy. Since opening a week ago, Kamsons service has not deteriorated at all. Very open, light and spacious from the old premises in The Arcade. On this visit, at least (see earlier review), there was a very nice and cheery member of staff, who was also helpful. Although pricier than, say, Superdrug (and certainly supermarkets), I found the prices for over the counter items pretty good - and cheaper than Ashton's across the roundabout, although their stock is less extensive, especially for things like herbal remedies. But well worth considering in the area. (Actually, it's nice to have the choice).

Watts is a little old-school style chemist in Seven Dials…read more It's not as cheap as places like Superdrug, but it's certainly not unreasonably priced. It's quite a charming little place, with jumbled shelves stacked high with boxes and jars, of both medical goods and more general health and beauty items. Like many small independent stores, they seem to be able to pack a hell of a lot into a small space, so it's certainly worth giving this place a go before trudging down the hill to Boots. Another plus is the friendly and helpful staff.

(Well even…read morethough I'm not still a student, but I have a student card with no expiry date which is nice, aaanyway!...). This particular Superdrug branch is small and doesn't stock any cosmetic/beauty products; the name on the front just says 'Superdrug Health' instead of 'Beauty' as on some branches. You'll find basic toiletries and medicines, but no hair products or mascara - unless they've changed it since the last time I went in there. Seems a little pointless to me as they could stick a few of these things in and make money I think. Ah well, still it's a handy store and there is a pharmacy.

The pharmacists are available for personal consultation, if necessary, and there's also a rack of pamphlets with information and answers to commonly asked health care questions. For a pharmacy, there's a wide range of snackables, including crisps, chocolate bars, bags of sweets and healthier oat and granola bars. A chiller contains a few prepared and pre-packaged small meals, like sandwiches, wraps and salads. Other sections include a display rack of travel size items (including hand-sanitizer, my exciting purchase for the day) and a rack of prescription reading glasses. I've never known anyone to buy eyeglasses from a drug store, but they seem to be a staple supply item.
