My husband got me slippers for Christmas from Rack Room Shoes. Unfortunately they were, ummm... not…read moremy style. (It was the thought that counts, right?) Anyways, I came back here to return/exchange them for new slippers. I was extremely disappointed with their selection. I think I saw 2 pairs of women's slipper and maybe 2 of men's. I then looked around at what else they had. Meh- I didn't find anything that I would even want to buy. I also thought their prices seemed high for what they had. The quality of some of their merchandise looked like "Pay Less"-type They did have some clearance racks which I looked though but nothing caught my eye. I ended up just taking the cash from my returned slippers and will use it elsewhere. On a positive note, the 2 employees that helped me were nice.

When it opened, I stopped by and discovered the same salesman working there! Between him and the other clerk, customer service was incredible. They both were not only familiar with the shoes they were selling, but various other aspects of how a pair of shoes affect mobility and how each type of shoe might impact physical activity and sports. They helped me select a pair of boots which fit perfectly and explained how the graphite bar this boot features would offer a solid support for my ankles. I also purchased a pair of running shoes to wear during cardio activity when I need a little more flexibility in my ankles, but that would still support them and prevent them turning. The difference these shoes have made has been phenomenal. The shoes were probably the most expensive shoes I have ever bought, but they are totally worth it and with the support from Kurt & Alicia I was confident in the buying decision they guided me towards. It is a joy to support a locally owned business, rather than some mega-conglomerate super clearance site. In the end, the price was very competitive with the internet sites as well, but nothing can replace the incredible customer service the New Balance store at Thruway Shopping Center offers. WIll definately buy from this store again.

I reached out to NB Corporate and a week later I heard from a person who is the actual manager, Deanna. She emailed me with an apology and asked me to come to the store to exchange the damaged shoes. I did just that today and was shocked to find out it was not she who turned me away assuming the shoe damage was my doing. Deanna was genuine, and sincerely sorry for the misunderstanding and not optimal customer service from her employee. My damaged shoes were exchanged. So, kudos to Deanna, and to New Balance for doing the right thing. Thank you.

I was originally greeted with a friendly smile by Kelsey. His's attention my need, product knowledge & customer services were exceptional. He fit me with comfortable Merrell Encore Gust 2 shoes. With gout, I wasn't wearing socks, but expected I may wear them when the gout subsided. I was amazed that Kelsey was able to add removable inserts under the heel & tongue to help improve stability without socks. Discovering exceptional selections, I went back another day looking for a pair of dressy snikers. Kelsey was off, but Mike helped me. Again, the friendly & knowledgeable customer service was exceptional. I have a wide foot & often can't find my size in most stores. But, that may not be the case at this footwear store. I found a pair of my favorite Brooks Beast shoes in my 4-E size. After two visits, I'm amazed a large footwear store, has such exceptional selections & customer services. Definitely try to keep an eye out for the next one and come the first day and not the last day. All other shoes was at least 100 and up. But I do admit they are very well made. Like the old saying goes, you pay for what you get. They even have bags and small accessories for ladies. The store was huge and the sale room was just as big with rolls and rolls of shoes. If your a woman and need to find shoes for 10 1/2 up to 11 1/2 this is your place! Only thing is there is no refund only exchange, so keep that in mind.

A friend of mine told me that By Foot Sports sold a shoe called "Hoka One One" (pronounced "o-nay" - more on that later). My wife and I wanted to go try some on but because of her work we couldn't get there until after closing time. Jeff graciously agreed to stay late and spent a good hour with us, trying on shoes and sharing his general love for running. I picked up a pair of Hokas, some calf sleeves, and even a pair of shorts on sale. I am as guilty as anyone of shopping on-line for certain things, but some things I always try to buy locally. Shoes are one. You really need to try shoes on, or in some cases like this, be properly fitted for shoes, in order to get the most out of them. I would hate to see a day in which we are 100% dependent on one sporting goods store in the same way that we are 100% dependent in Winston-Salem on a single book store for all our needs. Thus, I love the motto of By Foot, "We're not Dick's." Do yourself and your community a favor and make the short drive to King to check out By Foot. And about those shoes. The Hoka One Ones are so cushioned in the sole that it is like running on pillows. Being 230 pounds, one reason I didn't run is because of the pounding on my legs and back in regular running shoes. But after having the shoes only 3 weeks or so, I ran 6 miles today. I couldn't have done that in any other shoe.

Being that I liked shoes out of the norm (Hoka's) I was able to find Jeff's store online via the Hoka website. I called earlier in the week and asked Jeff if he had the new Cliftons available in a size 13. Having bigger feet always make shoe shopping a struggle for me, so I usually try and call in advance or special order the shoes. Luckily Jeff had the size 13 so I decided a trip to King was worth the time. Drove out there on Saturday and was greeted by Jeff and was very suprised to see Hoka's everywhere! Usually Hoka's are in the back corner of running stores and not displayed properly. But this store actually promoted them. So far so good. Jeff let me try on the Cliftons, we talked running "shop" for a bit and did some minor lace adjustments to make the Cliftons fit a bit better. And yes, I bought them. =) The personal touch Jeff added in customer service, truly showed me he appreciates his customers and loves everything about running. If you are runner and in need of a true good fitting shoe head over to King and talk to Jeff.

They have a ton of different styles of Birkenstocks and I ended up with this brown pair with gold buckles. The customer service was really good. They were happy to help us pick our size & let us try on a ton of shoes. They also have a decent selection of danskio, Tom's, Vionic, brooks, and other brands. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because it seemed like most of the shoes we picked up, they didn't have our size in stock which was disappointing. I also wish they had more Tom's shoes, specifically the wedges because they mostly had flats. Either way, it's a great store to have in the area! They're also open until 8 which is a plus.

It used to be a great store with well stocked shelves plenty of inventory, plenty of associates all around the store to help. These days, the doors at one end of the store are no longer in use, everyone must enter at the right end of the store. Kohls is now sharing the storefront with Sephora's name as well. Additionally, the shelves are very bare, lots of empty space from inventory needing to be restocked. Not sure what the future holds for Kohl's, but this store especially does not seem promising
