There is an ugly band of seemingly abandoned boats that you see when you first pull in the driveway, but the neighboring areas have been cleaned up significantly. The marina itself has undergone some slow improvements, like fixing up the decks and walkways, and a nice clubhouse with men's and women's bathrooms, gym and a small convenience shop. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive and we get a discount on propane. Folks are friendly and it is just a short walk to Giusti's.

At 6:45, Brandon was on the dock ready to help me tie up. It's a bit expensive ($40/night) but it is the only marina in the area that can accomodate a large houseboat. Shore power is available, but we didn't take it. The marina is walking distance from Giusti's Italian restaurant and the town of Walnut Grove. If you can handle the 2 mile walk on the levee in scorching heat, then you can visit Locke.

The Walnut Grove Public Dock is a clean, large mooring facility to park your watercraft for a spell, while you head into town or enjoy one of the businesses close to the dock. And did I mention: it's free! There's a fee for overnight tie ups, but during the day, it's like parking your car on the curb. On our recent camping trip just down the rover from Isleton, our group took a flotilla of boats to the ice cream place at the dock. Summer conditions in the delta made the water warm and relatively clear, and the kids tubes and wake boarded on the way up the river to Walnut Grove. We tied up to the dock, gorged on sweet treats, and returned for a sundown boat ride back. Apparently, fishing used to be allowed here; not anymore. In fact, there are lots of rules posted here, almost comically... and there's room on the wall for more rules to be posted at the whim and fancy of the city council. Definitely a different way of living than our SoCal freeway lifestyle.

Additionally, Barbara was responsible for the long-needed replacement of the old weathered main dock at the busy launch ramp with an awesome, new modern 80 foot dock. Fishermen, families, boaters, and hunters who have been coming here to launch for years were so pleased and relieved to have a beautiful safe new dock. Thank you, Cascade, for believing in Barbara's dream, and agreeing to replace the dock. Thank you for giving Barbara and I the thumbs up when we desired to make improvements to the park and marina. Your generosity is valued and appreciated. Since I started working here with Barbara, she and I developed a tight working relationship, and we also became good friends. I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to have a home on the beautiful Mokulemne river, to have a job I love and take pride in, and to work with the best community manager I could hope for. We were told that it was going to happen, and the new company, BoaVida Communities, assured Barbara and I that we would absolutely continue our duties here at New Hope , and that they were looking forward to hiring us as soon as the transfer of park ownership took place. So, Barbara and I were just waiting patiently for the changes that we had no control over. We felt uneasy, but hopeful. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the way we had hoped. BoaVida hired new community managers, and Barbara lost her job. They were lying to her for weeks. They had no intention of keeping Barbara as community manager. They then told her to pack up and move out. They would not allow her to continue her residency here. Unbelievable. Unprofessional. Wrong. Nobody has said anything to me about my future employment or residency at this park, but since Barbara was my boss...I'm sure I'm out of a job as well. I had my boat in for one of those nasty electrical / computer issues on my 2002 Mercruiser 496 MAG I have been dealing with for over a year. I've had several Boat mechanics and certified Mercruiser repair teams troubleshoot the problem. I've also spent thousands of dollars replacing parts and things recommended on Youtube only for more disappointment and lost time on the water.
