This used to be a great store when Don was the owner. Don is gone, but his wife Renee is now running the shop. Now it is terrible. We used to buy childrens books here almost weekly, their selection is decent while extremely unorganized. (Don't trip on the piles of books). Don was great, as he was always friendly and helpful, and it was clear he had a deep passion and love for books. We would bring in trade books as our kids grew up and outgrew their books, and they would discount any new purchases based on how much trade credit we had with them. The books were always priced well and reasonably, and while disorganized, it was the closest bookstore we had. it was always fun to look for treasures, and chat a bit with Don. Things went completely downhill when his wife took over the business. She got rid of the friendly cashiers and replaced them with what appears to be her friends, who know next to nothing about books, and are constantly in bad moods or throw attitude. Last week we were in line and the grey haired lady rand up a guy in front of us, saying nothing, then mockingly said something along the lines of "This is where you give me the credit card so that you pay", without saying anything else to him. No idea why she was so mad as a quiet customer who was confused by herr terrible attitude. We wanted to leave immediately, but we had two books to buy, so we had to deal with the aftermath. Then when we were checked out, she grumpily told us the price without looking at us. What on earth is happening here now. When we got home, we saw that the books were priced 1 or 2 dollars more than the new price, so even with our discount, we were practically paying new prices for books in fairly poor condition. We will be going elsewhere in the future. We just wish a decent bookstore would open in our area so we don't have to drive to Half Price. Maybe when his wife gives up, it will prompt someone else to open a shop who actually cares. read more

Walked in today for the first time, after riding by this place for a few years. Wish I hadn't waited so long. The store is magical, a labyrinth of books. Stacks and stacks on the shelves and floor. A book browsing dream. Really great used books store with an amazingly large selection of used paperbacks and some hardbacks. This place is outside of town but worth the drive. Bookworm has plenty of authors for every subject. The genres range from sci fi to legal aid to romance to just about anything. I went to purposefully look for parts of series that I was missing. I totally found what I needed at a good price. The used books range in quality from rough to new-ish. The ages also range from '70s to this year. The staff was super nice! They helped me find things and told me about the store. I loved the packed feel. It made me feel like I was in an overgrown library. The books like plants slowly taking over the store. I'll definitely be back. They even had books in the hallways. It was easy and fun to browse the shelves and the titles weren't too esoteric, not just hard back Shakespeare but plenty of beach reads and quality adventure novels to sink my mind into. I went in today looking for kids' books to help my daughter set up a library in her 3rd grade class. The clerk was friendly and they had a good amount of books but the prices were outrageous. I got 10 books and it cost me $51. At least one of the books cost more than its original price. If I had noticed that before I checked out I would not have bought any. I went to Half Price Books and Goodwill after and got another 10 books for $20. read more

I was really disappointed in visiting here. No one greeted us and directed us to where the kids books were. We luckily found the section on our own though. When going through the books, some of them weren't priced. When a woman finally came to the counter, I asked and she said the books we were looking at were $2 - fairly reasonable. As we kept looking though, the prices weren't. One book was priced at $6, when a Ross sticker had sold it for $5. Seems like an unfair mark-up for a used book store, to me. It made it hard for me to buy any other books I wanted, because I was feeling cheated. read more

Visited today, staff did not seem interested in new customers and were borderline rude/snobby. Asked about three different authors and staff could not find them on their shelves because of disorganization. I had to find them myself and was even helping organize the books because of them being mixed up so much. Then when I found a book I liked it was listed as 14.00, and when I checked on the internet the book was listed more along the lines of 4.00 on three different sites. They said it's listed like that because their clients pay with store credit. Which really shows that they have no real interest on new customers. A second book I found was listed as the exact price of a new copy. I like books so I bought only one book, but with all that I don't think I would come back here again. With the staff and the prices, It's not really worth it. read more

Once upon a time, a young father took his little girl to a bookstore. Even though she wasn't even close to reaching the counter, and wasn't interested in the grown up books that lined the walls and sat in piles on the floor, she knew it was a magical place. Trent, the owner, let her look at the children's book all she wanted, and would pick out things for her to see. As this little girl grew taller, and could eventually reach the counter, she wanted books with fewer pictures and grander stories. Trent knew what she would like, and pointed towards a Secret Garden, then to Narnia. Even though the girl knew the books were not new, she didn't care. That made them even more special, knowing that someone else had read them and loved them before she had. That little girl grew up and grew older, until she was no longer a little girl and so much taller than the counter. And she still came here for books of all kinds. Trent was there, and he knew just what to look for when she asked, and would call her if she wanted something special. She would buy books for school, books for work, books for cooking, and books for fun. That girl is now a cynical young woman with a wall full of old books and a credit card. She still goes there, by herself or with her father, and will skip happily home with a grocery bag full of books for under $50. Trent is still there too, and will call her when the Christopher Moore book she wants comes in. read more

I found myself bringing my kids here over the summer at least 2 times a week. We love it because it feels like a treasure hunt. The smell of old books seems welcoming. Piles and shelves of books just waiting to be found. Part of the fun was walking in without looking for anything specific and walking out with wonderful books to read. The people that work there are super sweet and discussing books with them is a delight. The books are not dirt cheap but still cheap enough to get quite a bit more than at a new book store. If looking for a new book or a specific book then it may not work but to find interesting new reads it's fantastic. They have what I think is a really sweet incentive to keep going in too. They take our used books, price them and give us a little store credit. The way it works is that the next time we shop we spend say $30.00 pay half out of pocket and the other half is taken from our credit. Works for us. We have tons of books and my kids found themselves boxing books so they could get credit for them. Of course when it was time to pay, the portion that was to be paid out of pocket came out of mine but they felt good about paying for half with their credit. The store keeps your information on index cards. All this seems like a very old fashioned way to do things but I think for me it just makes it all the more interesting. We LOVE this place. read more

Although I have been a huge fan of the Bookworm in the past, I have found this location is stuffed with so many books, it has become a huge problem to even navigate it's aisles--let alone the shelves--looking for my next great read. Books are piled everywhere--including right outside the bathroom! Prices and trade-in is still great, but I have found I need to 'gear up', to just go inside now. The staff is friendly and will do what they can to help you, but even they can't keep track of all the books they have in the many boxes and bags strewn all over. Would love to see them get a bit bigger space or at least cut back a bit on some of the older stuff--I've seen things there from the 50's and 60's with covers falling off--who wants to buy that? read more

I was on the hunt for project management books! I called and was told that they would call me back if any came in. Sure enough a few days later I got a call telling me there were a few books available! Talk about amazing customer service. I walked into the store and was greeted by the old paperback book smell! My favorite! There are so many genres available and the books are reasonably priced. I was shocked that I could bring in my used book in exchange for a 50 credit against future book purchases! This place is a treasure! On so many levels, I'm a book collector more than a reader. I very rarely buy, but I walked away with 4 books today that I wanted in my library. The people were great, inviting and friendly. It's my favorite kind of bookstore, the kind with treasures you have to spend some time to find. But the treasures are there. I always feel a little nervous when I'm in here. The home built shelves, overloaded with books, and reaching up to the ceiling look a little perilous to me. I often imagine the whole thing falling down on me as a pull out a wedged in book from a top shelf, but I guess that adds to the fun of a used bookstore. Great selection, decently organized, too many "excess" books in bags on the floor everywhere. The owner and staff are always busy pricing new inventory, but they never hesitate to stop and help when asked. There are a few (4-5?) bookworms in the Sac area, and if you have credit at one, you can use it at another, it just takes a phone call from the clerk. read more

Packed and overflowing with books - not always in order - but every genre is represented. There are back rooms and closet-sized rooms all filled with shelves and shelves of books, so plan to spend a couple of hours here searching for treasures; there are books piled high on the floor, on high shelves and often "double-parked" so you must make an effort to search for stuff, but it will be worth the effort. The Bookworm has a good selection of collections - most Evanovitch, Hiassen and Sue Grafton books are on the shelves. I had never gone into this place till one day I was looking for some audibooks and thought I'd try looking here. I walked in and the dude working didn't greet me or even take his eyes up from his book. There was only one other person in the store at the time. After trying to find the audiobooks, I had to ask the dude where they were which they were right next to where he was. After looking through them he seemed a bit put out that I was near his space and put his book down. Didn't ask me what I was looking for. Didn't offer any help. There was nothing good so I bounced. I can not imagine how this place has been in business for so long. I will never go back. Moral of the story is this- only look for used books or audibooks online. read more

I love this cozy bookstore! The first time I went in there I couldn't believe how many books there were! The little path wove around the store never seemed to end! There were just rooms upon rooms of books stacked up to the ceiling. And they were all organized. And there is such great service. I feel like the man who owns it and work there has read every single book ever written. You can tell it is his passion so it just makes this bookstore a great feeling. And it doesn't hurt that you can bring your old books in and get new ones for half the price- which is already lower then if they were brand new. I bought about 8 great books for like $15 bucks! Being an avid reader who is looking for specific books, I went into this place for the first time. They have a very wide selection of used books in a variety of genres. However, are not well organized. Within one genre, I found that they generally put the authors into alphabetical order but the "sorter" must not know where certain letters fall. Also, some authors within a genre may be placed into a different area of the shop. I had a hard time figuring where to look, even after talking to a staff member. They had recently reorganized so the staff also had a hard time finding things. They were, however, very helpful and they did their best in a difficult situation. There are a lot of shelves, which are all jam packed, leaving many books stacked or piled on the floor. Maybe they need to put some books on sale to reduce their inventory? read more

Found this bookstore recently and fell in love with it the moment I walked inside. Totally unassuming from the outside, but its amazing once you get in. My husband hates how often I purchase new books from either Amazon or B&N, but now that I found this place, I almost don't have to go to either of those placed - unless I absolutely have to. To say that the Bookworm is unique is understatement. But, it is wonderful, like looking through a treasure trove. Love it.

The staff is always so nice and will help you help anything you need. If you turn books in, you can get credit and use half of your credit to buy books (you still have to pay half of the balance so it's not a book exchange). I agave found some gems there and the prices are great! I always look there before going to a big book store like Barnes and noble or amazon! read more

Made a call to see if they had a book the lady put it on hold for me. I drove 30 minutes to store made it there at 430. Online says they close at 5 paper on door said 4. I called the next day got a rude man and he basically said I don't know what to tell you it's not here. So we will be shopping elsewhere. read more

They always have the book I'm looking for. I love that I can call ahead of time and make sure it's there and they will hold it for me that same day! Very helpful staff, they always know what I'm talking about even when I've said the name wrong. I'll keep taking my business there to them! read more

I went in to look for a travel book, but they didn't have what i wanted. It's the kind of store you would want lots of time to browse in as there are books all over the place which is part of the charm. My only gripe is that they sold me a 2nd hand book for more than the original marked price on the book. read more
