I like this store and come in to cruise through to see if f there really is any books that I would buy or see if they have them at my library. I have been on the kick do of audiobooks this year ... so looking inside a bookstore is fabulous. Bathroom was clean but there was the unmistakable smell of urine. Joe Muggs was pretty busy but I didn't get anything from there. Lots of clearance going on. The only thing I didn't like was how dark it was on the outer walls. read more

Asking a reader what their favorite bookstore is, is like asking a toddler what their favorite toy is. Our answer would be any bookstore with books, off the top of our heads, but I also look for atmosphere. With Books-a million, I find my haven. Not only is it 'just a bookstore,' they have a coffee shop that sells Craft Bakery goodies, on top of all the books and ample places to sit and read. I live the Gilmore Girls life by having enough coffee in my body to run a small city, so when I say they make some pretty fantastic coffee, it's the truth. They have a great selection of Harry Potter-inspired espresso drinks, and the Butter Beer latte is my favorite aside from a caramel latte. I'd say this place would be a fantastic unique date night for any gentleman or lady looking to hit it off with a future someone special. read more

If you think you're going to sit here quietly, and read a book, and enjoy a coffee, in a little alcove all your own, guess again. Like many Books-A-Million stores, this place is approximately the size of a football field, and any such thing as a private nook, in which you, and maybe yours, can have any such thing as privacy is pure fantasy. Gotta cater to the kids; this place is more toy shop and nursery school than it is bookstore. Expect to hear lots of yelling, screaming, crying, whining, and (especially) high-pitched squealing. (Unless it's during school hours, Monday through Friday, or, every day, after 5 P.M., when the parents of the noisy brats decide it's dinner time, and they go down to the local Red Robin or Olive Garden, where they and their kids can bother people there.) No more plush chairs here, thanks to covid; you get to sit on a nice hard comfy bench. Unless you're sitting at one of the limited number of places at the wobbly tables in their cafe. (When they're not being monopolized by members of a local chess club, who apparently can't meet in any of their parents' garages or rec rooms.) Coffee creations are like anything you'd find at any Starbucks, USA, only with a different name, and equally overpriced. (Although they do have bakery type stuff for sale from a local place just down Davis Highway called Craft. Still, expect to shell out the bucks.) The employees are very friendly, easygoing, laid-back, helpful, and pretty cool, not at all anal-retentive, like those at the Barnes and Noble just a little ways away. And I do like the fact that they have a good selection of used, discounted books, especially cookbooks. All in all, not a bad place to peruse, or to just kick back and enjoy, despite the fact that it's just a chain bookstore in a strip mall. read more

Pensacola still has a BAM! I used to come here to study when I didn't feel like being at home or being bothered by friends at the UWF library while I was in college. Now when HubbyStanks and I visit Pensacola we like going to BAM to work together quietly...like we do at Barnes in Tampa too. Our BAM in Palm Harbor turned into a super pet store a few years back. :( I like the openness of this bookstore. It doesn't feel as crowded as Barnes and it's not as hard to find seating. They have plenty of pleather gray chairs to comfortably sit back and read in. The Joe Muggs cafe is smaller than when I was in college. The whole front of the store used to be dedicated to cafe tables. Now there's only a third of those left. The biggest problem with BAM is that it's not easy to use their wifi. You need to give up too much of your social identity or you need to have a BAM card. Since most BAM stores have closed I wouldn't feel comfortable getting a BAM card like I had in the past. Who knows when they'll turn this one into a super pet store or whatever else is more popular than physical books. I really do hope it's still here the next time I'm in town for a visit and for many more years to come. read more

Mobile books a million has personable employees, great selection of books and cd's. The coffee house is small but is good enough for a good cup of coffee and a good read. Educational area dedicated to children and lots of toys for children. Their buy back program is better than sitting in a hot sun trying to barter with a person at a yard sale! They buy DVD's too. It was a life saver for me! Go visit the books are reasonably priced and they have books that are off the market! read more

If you need a quiet getaway, or maybe want to find a great book to read, or even have some work that needs to be done and just want a change of scenery then this place is the place for you. I usually come in her about once or twice a month. I like to see all of there great book selections and maybe pick one or two out and read them. I love the great selections of family board and card games they have. This place has it all. It's basically geek central and not just a bookstore. They have bunch of collectibles and journals, also keychains to coffee cups. So if you don't read that much or not into books then still check it out. It has so much more to offer and also a great little cafe area. I enjoyed that today as I got a gingerbread mocha frappe and a gingerbread man cookie. They both complimented each other great and the frappe wasn't too sweet. It's a great spot to get into the holiday season! I have been going to BAM for as long as they have been open in Pensacola I go about 4 times a week. I love the coffee shop and I think BAM is so lucky to have a Person like Gina working for the. if she didn't work there I would have stopped going there long ago. I go there to drink coffee and work but as of the last few months the wifi there really sucks. I cant get anything done it keeps dropping me most of the time I cant get on line at all. as much as I hate to say this I think I am done with BAM, at Barnes & Noble and The Coffee Guy I am sure to get on line. The store itself is mostly good, this review is mostly about the company itself. Workers starting out at a fast food job 9 times out of 10 will make more than even the management at Books-a-Million. Not only is the pay terrible but the company makes their employees come in even during hurricanes even if no customers were to show up. Lastly is that at this location specifically the company will not fix the A/C for the customers or employees. Due to all these conditions it is hard for the location to get employees other than the hard working ones they have, so that means the ones who do work are there almost every single day. This is a terrible company that no one should support or work for until they change. read more

Books-A-Million is only one of two large bookstores available in Pensacola. If they closed, everyone would have to huddle together like sardines in Barnes and Nobles. No Bueno. Books-A-Million has plenty of sitting space and if you're a member, you get 20% off plus access to free Wi-Fi. This is a great study place! The cafe is large and has several outlets for hooking up your laptop. If you forget your study notebook or sketch pad, no worries because Hobby Lobby and Office Max are right next door. They also have an impressive magazine selection and a discount used book section. Be warned that on Sundays it can get busy with the after church crowd plus that's when the Pensacola Chess Club plays there. read more

It's crazy. It's a huge store full of books and I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Also very annoying that the only customer service kiosk with a computer to search for books is at the front. With one computer. So after you walk your happy self to the back of the store to find the section that has the books you want only to discover they do not, you have to trek back up to the front to use the computer. Why not put the computer in the middle of the store?!? So I look for my craft book and discover that not only do they not carry it, it takes 3-5 WEEKS to deliver. WEEKS!!!! What kind of bookstore is that? I came home and ordered the titles I wanted from Amazon. Should be here by Friday. I looked for travel books on an earlier visit and was sorely disappointed in the selection. I ordered those from Amazon too. Guess I am learning a valuable lesson here! read more

Pensacola Davis Hwy Books-A-Million is a great book store. Much selection and an impressive selection of magazines. I stopped in for a cup of Joe Mugs which I do sometimes. I don't know what was going on BUT I will never buy coffee there again. Oh, don't get me wrong. The coffee is good. I've never had such bad service there or anywhere that I can remember. I'm 72 and that's a lot of remembering. I ordered one(1) mocha and two(2) coffee of the day. Yes they were a little busy and I expected a wait. What I got was a mocha about 10 minutes later that the server tried to give to someone else. Then about 10 minutes later a (as in one) coffee arrived. Mocha is now getting cold. I question what is going on. "Oh we are so busy right now and we had to make another pot of coffee" I was told. I asked "Isn't this a coffee shop"? "Yes" she replied. "That's all I need to know" I said while waiting for the coffee to make 20 minutes after I ordered. There is no coordination or planning here. There are too many coffee shops in Pensacola for me to ever go through this again. I would give this place a 0 rating but it's not there. Forty (40) minutes for a coffee is not acceptable. read more

This review is for this locations buy-back book program. Don't waste your time. Hours are from Noon-6pm Sunday - Thursday. You drop off what you have, and then you have to come back to accept an offer and pick up what they do not want. You MUST do this during those hours. So let's see, we dropped off 35 books, got ten back, and they gave us a whopping $15.00. Literally 60 cents apiece. These were all hardcovered excellent condition books. So two trips for a whole lot of nothing. You would be better off selling them on your own or giving them to Teen Thrift. Lesson learned. read more

Buy and sell your books on Amazon! There is no situation where you need to come here (except when you can't get deliveries like me); books are overpriced (see first line) and the book buyback is a sham, I was quoted $1 for 2 books I could easily sell on amazon for $20. They also had advertised that the weekend was tax free...definitely paid tax, very confusing. Also. there are not many used book options for sale and they are hard to find since they are mixed among other books. It is open on weekends and has a coffee shop to hang out and read in...which you can do for free, no need to spend any money here, unless you want a cafe au lait (worth it!) otherwise avoid. read more

My daughter and I absolutely love going here. They have a great selection of books and the store itself is huge. The best part about this place though (and the reason for this review) is the little coffee bar that is contained within the store called Joe Muggs This little hidden gem is a fantastic place to relax and read or use your portable devices. Whats even better is that you can take any book from the store itself into here, read it, and then just return it back to the shelf when you are done. My daughter goes through entire manga's here in a couple hrs. There are plenty of seats and they have those big "comfy" seats as well as tables and chairs located both inside and outside. This way everybody is happy depending on why you are there. There isn't really any noticeable music but the atmosphere is still splendid. Drinks are pretty good too, and the staff is usually pretty nice and accommodating. read more

many discounted books and everything was great until.. TODAY! the cashier checks me out and he takes out a flyer and asked me 3 magazine out of 6 magazine that I want to choose. At first I thought this was a questionnaire or something like that and my mind were drifted away the next second he told me that I'll get magazines in the mail. I walked away and when I read the flyer, it says I will get 2 months of free magazine and that if I don't cancel it out, they will get my information (and my debit card information) from Books A Million and charge them for the magazine subscription. Okay, this thing turned me off. They need to clearly tell the customer of what they are getting. I'm completely disappointed. read more

In this case, when it is located in a city such as Pensacola, which is somewhat lacking in places to gather/work outside of downtown, any place that is available should be known. This location, close to the interstate, has a clean , well stocked cafe section along with ample seating and outlets. I've never run into any staff member who wasn't helpful. It's a nice enough store, has a great selection of books and an even better selection of discount books! I got there all the time and have gotten to know some of the employees. All the coffee shop workers are great (Gina, Ally and a guy whose name escapes me), they are so friendly and make a good cup! The most knowledgeable employee on the book side is Skye, you'll recognize her by her pin thin stature and messy hair! If you need to find a book hone in on her, she's amazing at finding things! The only employee I'd say to avoid like the plague is Donna, a short older woman. Oh man, I've never met a more negative person in my life! She's usually in a terrible mood, rude and unhelpful. Also she's WAY too pushy at the registers. But I digress! Anyway the bookstore is great, I just wish it were a bit more cheerful looking (the dreary gray color does nothing for it). I really like this place and can usually find what I'm looking for. I absolutely love their sitting areas! the one thing I don't like is their organization. I'm a HUGE reader and go to the bookstore once a week. I usually alternate between Books-A-Million and Barnes And Noble. I can honestly say that I like Barnes And Nobles environment and organization much better. They it organized by genre and author and ages. In Books-A-Million it's mostly age (adult, kid, and teen). I have to say, I can't ever find anything in here. The layout of the store is confusing, and the discount section is near impossible to browse. It does have a decent selection of novelty items, but the books are lacking--big time. Plus, the coffee shop in the bookstore is disgusting. I once ordered hot apple cider, and I got a cup of hot water with a squirt of apple flavoring. I watched the woman make it. I threw it out. So, let me get back to reality: Books a Million is in your average-joe strip mall on the north side of P'cola. They have a lot of books, but not as many as B&N down the road, and they don't have DVDs and music (minus one star)! However, what they don't lack in are magazines, and discounted books and gifts, plus a whole lot of junk (examples: stuffed animals, pens, stationary, cheap toys) that a lot of people don't need! But the on-sale books are actually pretty recent, with some 75% of the cover price in all kinds of categories like children's, teen's, adult fiction and nonfiction, biographies, and history. I have been a customer for over 10 years and have always enjoyed the store until today. Donna is a poor representative of Books-A-Million and has poor customer service skills. She became argumentative with me over the phone and basically called me a liar about receiving an automated phone call. The "manager" (?) that I asked to speak to was apologetic but backed up Donna's customer service skills. Went there after a tornado hit, my husband and I had no power and a tree in the side of our house. We left to find somewhere open with power to take our minds off and wait for family to come get us... and ALAS books a million was open. I waited 15 minutes at the counter while waiting for the "barista" to come up to the counter after hearing people sternly asking for her over the intercom and radio. She walked out from the back finally, barely greeted me more like greeted me rudely. She was slamming things around loudly like she was put out while making our drinks. And when another responsible employee told her to watch the front she exclaimed that she was sarcastically sorry because she was closing. You are at your job bud.....you work till close. And if it's 30 minutes till close you still have to act like you still want to be there..... The selection is pretty stagnated. Every time I come back I am drowning in useless fan merchandise and new books are under-overwhelmingly placed on a "new releases" table. Yeah, the place is the size of an airport but quality over quantity I say. I've stopped going all together after trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. They never have what I want and even when something new comes out they don't have it?! At Barnes & Noble they always have some new and interesting advertised and their selection is so diverse for such a small place. The prices on both new and used items at Books-a-million isn't something to talk about. They are just as expensive as anyone else. My only problem with staff is that some look bored and some are MIA. Met one nice and helpful girl their named Keagan, so look for her. In conclusion: Same comic books, same fiction, same cds, same dvds, not so cheap used stuff, waaaaaay too much tv merch, no focus on new or interesting reads.
