The customer service is atrocious. I've gone to several book stores I am looking for the wizard of oz series and I had a hard time looking for the book. Asked 4 employees for help. Instead of helping me look, they all told me different sections to check. Now I work customer service I understand not everyone can hold my hand, But I couldn't find this book to SAVE my life. A simple 3 minute walk turned into an hour of looking for this book. After the 4th person blowing me off. I was in town visiting family friends and decided to get some work done inside this BAM location. Their in-store coffee shop Joe Muggs has a Harry Potter drink menu up on the screen, which immediately captured my attention. We ordered the "Frappe that Shall Not Be Named" and "Butterbrew" which was a total of $11.47 before tip. The prices were not bad compared to what we pay in NYC. The frappe tasted similar to the chocolate chip frappe you'd get at Starbucks and I preferred it over the "Butterbrew" - which was excessively sweet. This BAM was a nice, comfortable environment and all the books were neatly organized. The bathrooms, however, weren't very clean and despite the organized appearance of the store, they had a limited selection of books on their shelves. There were 5 books of different genres I was looking for and they didn't have any in stock at their location. Wifi is only available to members (which I was not since there aren't any BAM locations where I live) but overall, I did enjoy the ambience and I was able to get work done during the time I was there. read more

My kids and I love this place! The staff is always friendly. I don't know what happened on the days others went there and had bad experiences. Maybe the associate just had a bad day like we all do sometimes, and none of us handle it perfectly. I have been going to this place for as long as I can remember. I love browsing a couple of sections - personal development and natural alternatives. My kids look around and enjoy getting books as well as a toy or novelty item. Then we all grab something from Joe Muggs. Honestly, we have stopped in countless times just for Joe Muggs! I love their millionaire mocha, and my daughter loves the frozen hot chocolate. Joe Muggs beats Starbucks any day, although I wish they had the caramel apple cider like SB. If you love books or just want a quiet spot to hang out in public, Books-A-Million is awesome. Though I enjoy the coffee and magazines here, they're very pushy about their discount card--"it's just a little sad that you're not getting one, because you would've saved a lot of money by now." This has happened every time I've gone there. They also have a penchant for vacuuming around customers two hours before closing, giving nasty looks, and so on. I wouldn't recommend. read more

SOO pushy with the subscriptions and offers like geez I'm just trying to buy a couple of books and now I have a whole process of canceling something I didn't even want or approve!! Great place! I almost didn't stop at this BAM location because of the reviews but I'm glad I DID! I was there for nearly 5 hours and not once did anyone badger me about memberships, magazine subscriptions or anything like what the other reviews stated. I don't know if every other BAM location is like this but THIS PLACE IS WORTH THE STOP!! I walked out with 7 used books, 5 hardcover and 2 paper backs, in perfect condition for $46 when at B&N I would've paid near $200! I'm the type of person that looks up REVIEWS first and then decides to go or not to go and I'm glad I stopped here despite the bad reviews!! (I talk a lot about the great USED books in my review but this store has all Brand New books too so don't think this is a USED only books store.) I've never been to a BAM before (I'm B&N Fam all the way) and I gotta say I was impressed. This store is really nice and well kept. This place is somewhat exactly like a B&N BUT they have USED books too that are near BRAND NEW for really good prices! I even had to ask a store associate what the difference was between a certain used book vs the new version because they were so alike! She just said one was USED, but jeez it was exactly like the new one and it was 7 bucks instead of 25. I found a good amount of used books that were in Amazing condition. (They have both NEW & USED) New books that are originally $20- $30 are $5-$8 bucks USED. $10-$20 New books are even $2-$5 USED! I never buy used books but I couldn't help it here because a lot of their used books are in very good condition and so are the ones that aren't AND the prices are LOW! Hardcovers, Paper backs, mass paperbacks etc. are in excellent condition new and used. I've had to buy online before because hardcovers at B&N we're damaged but I didn't have that problem here. Everything else other than used books is great here! They might not have a star bucks but that doesn't matter to me IMO. They have everything that B&N has plus more and they have better stuff that you might NOT or CAN'T find at B&N. They have a lot of collectors stuff from HARRY POTTER to Marvel to Game Of Thrones. Certain POPs I've never seen before and some stuff I know B&N doesn't sell. This is coming from someone who never really writes reviews AND who is a B&N lover.. and member. She didn't even say anything except for circle 3 magazines and I had no idea that was me "signing up for 3 magazine subscriptions" they ask you a trillion questions when all you want to do is pay for the product and leave. Books a Million: You don't get it. You just don't get it. People want to buy books. They don't want membership cards shoved down their throats. Think about it: a real book lover might buy one book a week. And that means they have to be subjected to your ridiculous membership sales tactics every time. No matter what store they're in. How many times do I have to say I DON'T WANT YOUR MAGAZINES?! Also, when I went to this particular BAM, they had the bathrooms locked. WHY? YOU SERVE COFFEE, PEOPLE. YOU HAVE PEOPLE HANGING OUT AND READING BOOKS FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. And now you have to go to the front desk every time you need to use the loo? SERIOUSLY? Bricks-and-mortar bookstores are increasingly scarce so I try to frequent them whenever I can. But this is one place I don't want to frequent because of how they approach their customers. Customers aren't first. If they were, customers wouldn't be locked out of the bathroom and subjected to harsh sales tactics. On the upside, the staff is very nice and the coffee is good. read more

I went to make a simple purchase at this BAM location. The clerk was kind of pushy and insistent that I sign up to get free magazines for 3 weeks and assured me it would cancel itself. Well a few months later I get a $66 charge for magazines!!! Wth! Whatever you do, do not let these ppl sign you up for this! It's all lies! read more

Unless you want to pay $30 for a membership here, don't bother coming. It's really expensive here... So most of the time, it's over retail price. Will not plan on coming back ever again. Actually, I'm kinda surprised by this store. Why? Well, usually Barnes &Nobles are a lot nicer in comparison, but this Book A Millions is a very nice store. It has a good selection of books, gift items, magazines, and quite a few things on sales. The man that check us out was very polite. I've been meaning to get some books for a while now and I found this place while passing through. I didn't sit in for coffee or whatnot but I did enjoy their large selection of books. They also have really awesome deals. I got 3 different books today, all were under $3. I would definitely go back if I come to Lake Charles again! read more
