I have to admit, I LOVE new/used media stores. I love how they've added all these new business to this little "Japan" area, and this is a solid addition in my humble opinion. The store has a decent selection of all types of media - vinyl, cds, movies, video games, anime related merchandise. And while there isn't one particular type of media they specialize in, there is something for everyone. They also had a selection of imported video games, which I thought was interesting. They also have sections of discounted movies and cds. I was pretty close to buying a hootie and the blowfish cd, but I ended up holding off in the end. If you're looking for a good used store , this is it. Recently new to the area, Bookoff is a Japanese based used bookshop that has done of everything. They have trading cards, games, books, music and figurines. You can buy and sell here as well. They are new so they still have time to grow and get more merchandise. It is nice to have another used bookstore in the area. This place has books, toys, collectables, game counsels, so much packed in a tight area. Since it is so new, it seems like it has room to grow as far as book offerings. Each section is rather small, but the beauty of this place is that they buy books as well. So as more people find out about this place, they will most likely get a better selection. I personally did not find any new books I wanted, but I hope to encounter some next time. In the collectables, they had some unique finds, including some very rare and very niche retro anime figurines that were pretty impressive. They also had some interesting collectables that were fairly expensive, so I imagine true collectors would understand that value of the merchandise. While the used books were not as inexpensive as I would like, they seemed to be in good condition, and they had stacks and stacks of items for only a dollar or two. Was able to find a large selection of used manga here that I have been needing for my collection. The store was pretty crowded and overwhelming, and the trinket section was truly daunting. I hated the fact that everything was hung on hooks instead of in bins to dig around in. It got to the point where I gave up on looking for trinkets that I desired. Good spot for gamers, variety of books, DVDs, Blue-Rays, Mangas, CDs, comic books, Pokemon, game consoles, Japanese figurines. The aisles come to odd narrow points for the first row by the cashier. The last row gets a bit congested too. Clearance sections too. Has a lot of different items for anyone. read more

This place was a lot of fun. A Novi friend and I checked it out tonight, kinda unexpectedly - we had theater tickets but the show got canceled. Book-off has a HUGE selection of just about everything, and the pricing is awesome too - it has a section of $1-2 books, and I noticed they had a lot of $2 DVDs, too. As other reviews have mentioned, there's a huge gaming section of things to buy plus Japanese-inspired things like manga and anime and accessories. My friend and I mostly stuck to the book sections, and we had to leave because they were closing at 8pm (it's a weekday), but we definitely would've stayed longer if not. I ended up getting two children's books for my daughter plus a paperback for myself ... two were $5 and one was $7. I did price check one on Amazon (the $7 one) and it was $6.25 there, but this way I already have the book in-hand (and it was a sensory book full of things she can touch, so she loved it). Overall this place was fabulous and I highly recommend. It's apparently a chain but I'm not sure how many exist - I know there are some in Japan though. read more

We had put an order in across the street for sushi and had some time to kill so I suggested we check out Bookoff. When we pulled into the parking lot I saw the shelves of figurines in the window and assumed it was more of a gaming anime/manga kind of shop which admittedly I'm not as familiar with so first impression was that I wouldn't spend a ton of time there. Boy was I wrong! Yes, they have a pretty good selection of the aforementioned items but it's SO much more! First off, the entire store is used merchandise and they pack a ton in. The first thing I saw when I walked in was the aisle of vinyl. I immediately knew I'd lose my husband to that for a while and I was right! I loved exploring too, of course, but he's the real crate digger in the family and spent many years working in record stores so as soon as I see a 12 inch I know I'm on my own. I believe the brand started in Japan and we were delighted to find a TON of Japanese import pressings. Prices varied and were very Goldilocks--some over, some under, some just right. We snagged a few of the latter category, including a Japanese pressing of Wings "Band on the Run." Very cool! The largest selection of merchandise is books. There are a ton in a variety of genres, mostly fiction but a nicely rounded variety of genres can be found, for sure. There's also a large section of dvds, blurays and CDs, as well as some more niche/retro media like cassettes. Speaking of retro--the gaming!! They have a decent section of used video games including current platforms like the switch and PS5 but also a ton of retro gaming including Game Boy, Game Boy 3D, GameCube, N64 etc. They even have a few SNES and NES games all at pretty reasonable price points (including a fairly collectable SNES Rocko's Modern Life game for a cool $80). You can also get used consoles, including some of the older platforms like the N64 and whatnot. A few other noteworthy offerings: a large section of resale Pokemon cards, Funko Pops, action figures and collectable figurines, dedicated anime and manga sections, a small section of Asian language books, and some anime themed resale accessories/trinkets like keychains, lanyards, pins, etc. I was so pleasantly surprised by their offerings and my husband and I were already planning another date out that way just so we could stop in again for more exploring! read more

Book off just opened in Novi! It's part of the sakura shopping plaza in the back. Lots of parking. So many books, games and movies! Lots of selection and wide range of pricing. They don't have enough people working here yet. The line is wrapped around the back. read more

I used to like coming here and buy all types of items when they first opened because prices were reasonable but now the prices are sky high for 2nd hand figures and books. I saw the smallest second hand figures go for almost 50 dollars with no box or boxes were damaged. What's the point of raising prices so high? I wouldn't recommend anyone buying here unless you like giving away your hard earned money away read more

The pricing here makes absolutely no sense, especially for second hand goods. Some figures are priced very well, while others are double, triple, or even quadruple MSRP. I've gone a handful of times and seen figures I would've bought marked up a baffling amount. I want to love this store, but I cannot wrap my head around what their pricing standards are. They won't price match either, of course. Prize figures at $70 to $100, what a joke. read more
