Do not come here expecting to have a good experience.
I come to WI to visit family and in our spare time we enjoy supporting the local economy.
Last year Aug 2013 we visited and didn't receive friendly service. But we thought we'd give it one more try since they carry some nice things in the shop. After yesterday's experience we will never go in there again.
We have encountered two older women who work there each time we've gone (twice) and each time they are immediately rude and impersonal when we enter. Trying to be polite and friendly my family and i have attempted small talk/ minding our own business/ and simply making fast purchases.
Yesterday we arrived thinking maybe we just caught the lady on a bad day last year. NOPE! As soon as we entered she looked us at annoyed as if she didn't want any customers to begin with. All I went in there for was a cigar for my husband back home. The humidor was locked so I politely asked the woman when she had a chance if I could check out the selection. Promptly she dropped what we she was doing, still seeming irritated asked me for my ID. Being 27 and knowing how things go, I eagerly provided it for her. Still looking like she didn't believe me she stomped over to the humidor and let me in. They have such a diverse selection I couldn't decide what to purchase my husband so I called him on skype so I could ask him which one he wanted. As I'm in the humidor the woman starts to scold my family as they are waiting for me, about me being on the phone and showing my husband. Understanding that it is a store policy I immediately got off my phone and we all apologized. She proceeded to watch and shake her head at us. At which point we all felt so uncomfortable we just wanted to make our purchases and move on. I wanted to check the pipe tobacco before I left, so I was beginning to look at their selection when the old bat yelled at my mother. My mom was standing at their register where they have the Manitowoc History books. She was holding the book that the historical society published for a fundraiser, and the woman proceeded to probe my mom about where or not she was going to purchase the book, and if not to put it back. My mom had the book gently opened to a picture of the Capital Theatre where our Great-Grandfather used to work. My mom in fact was going to purchase the book but since the old bat was so rude she closed the book and put it back, she looked at me and said I'll be outside. At this point we all reached our limits of patience and not wanting to "cause any more trouble", I purchased the one cigar after all and we left. That woman was so rude... I will never go back there as long as they employ cranky, rude, and inconsiderate "customer service" representatives like that.
We went to other shops and we were talking among ourselves about our experience and other customers overheard us...turns out the locals have serious complaints and they don't even shop there anymore. They apologized to us for the horrible experience because that isn't the way of Wisconsin folks.
*They don't even deserve a star nor my time...but i just figured I'd share our experiences, because apparently we aren't alone in this madness. read more
