As an avid reader and lover of literature, book stores are kind of my jam. I visited on a Sunday afternoon. The store was pretty empty as there was only one other customer there at the time. The cool thing about The Book Bar is that they sell books and wine! They also have a bar where they do wine tastings. Although I didn't indulge in a wine tasting during my visit, the wine tastings are free! Although they sell books here, this isn't what you'd expect from the typical book store. I think of it as more of a community space where you can buy and/or read books, sip wine, and enjoy good conversation. They also host events here, including author visits. In addition to books and wine, they sell products from other local businesses. I picked up some banana pudding cookies from here made by The Sweetest Thing RVA. Finally, I can't end my review without acknowledging the excellent customer service I received while there. I was immediately greeted by the staff upon entering the store even though she was helping someone else. Then, the employee proceeded to assist me when she had the chance. She asked me what I was currently reading and if I had a favorite genre. I told her that I like historical fiction and she recommended a book for me. The cool thing is she recommended a book that had references to the city of Richmond, which made the book a nice personal souvenir to remind me of my visit. I can't wait to return! When you walk in, you'll find a beautiful, welcoming space. I may have visited too soon after grand opening, as the owner Krystle just restocked her shelves. I went looking for a specific book, which she didn't have at the moment (but could order if I wanted!) and bought another that caught my eye. There is also a whole section for treats, self care items, and goodies. I plan to be back and get some work done with some wine from their selection.

If you're looking for textbooks, they most likely have what you need, and at a better price than B&N. At the end of the day, if the price difference is negligible anyway, why not support a local bookstore rather than a book conglomerate that tries to squeeze discounts out of its publishers and distributors anyway? The only downside here is parking, since there really isn't much to be had (even if you're willing to pay a meter). This is a location best tackled on foot, an approach that's easy to make if you're a VCU student or have a pass for one of the VCU garages. Seating is kind of limited, but luckily we were able to snag a table. I had fun checking out all the different book sections, but the banned book area was definitely the coolest part to me. I thought it was awesome that they give people the chance to explore those books so openly. I only got a cold brew, and it was okay. I wasn't a fan of their ice just cuz the shape just melts quicker and makes your drink watery fast. Aside from that, the service was really great. Everyone was super friendly and happy to help. The location is also really convenient if you're around the VCU Cary st area. Definitely a nice spot to relax for a while.

Upon entering, the books are found along the wall, there are tables and chairs to sit and the coffee is ordered at a counter right in the center of the store. Towards the back, they have a section just for kids and young adults. Also, there are plenty of parking outside. They have new and old books available at decent prices. One of the best things I have ever seen is they have a dedicated turning bookcase for BANNED books of Hanover county. It is a lending library. You choose a book, open it and scan the QR code inside and check off the book you picked. Then, you return it when you're done. No time limit on it. That easy. I am so proud that they are supporting these books and making it easy for anyone to have access to them. On this visit, I borrowed Jodi Picoult's book, Nineteen Minutes. I recommend you come visit and support this coffee/book shop in the VCU area. I definitely recommend it and plan to visit often.
