On one visit, I was just returning a book, and was surprised to see the outdoor slot for returns was closed. I hadn't brought my mask, so was wondering what to do next. The guard came over and asked if she could return it for me. She did. Bravo Palmerston!

Rather small selection of teen books in the teen zone. Major issue is that there's a particular gentleman who always sits in that teen zone at a table with wet wipes and a back scratcher in toe, breakfast strewn about, and essentially uses it as his person living room. I have witnessed him scratching his back with his back scratcher, wiping his neck and disposing of tissues in the nearby waste basket. It is certainly unappetizing particularly with children in that zone. And a library table is not the place for personal hygiene care (go to the bathroom for that please) I STOPPED going to this library when I witnessed this person changing medical bandages on his bloody foot on a chair in his "living room". I told the clerk who said that wasn't permissible (bodily fluids, blood, no thanks), and she got security to handle it. But come on - that's not what a public library is for.

It has more of a bibliophilic staff and atmosphere than the big chains, since books are their only business. They've got a better loyalty card deal than Chapters/Indigo, and if you sign up they even send you a $5 gift certificate on your birthday. Book City also has good deals on remainders (something which also used to be true of Chapters, but not as much lately).

There are plenty of seatings (sofas and seats) so you can just lounge around or you can use the private rooms if you want to have some privacy. There are good selections of current paperbacks and best sellers. Most of them are in great conditions and some of them brand news since the library is only 3 years old or so. I really enjoy spending a hour or 2 on my day off having a cup of coffee and lounging around using their wifi internet and read some magazines. Of course the best thing is the free wifi!!!

We went to the desk clerk and explained what happened, and we asked her when do the books get reshelved so we can find them and sign them out again. She took her time and went to the drop box area and looked through all the books and found the ones my daughter needed and signed them out for us. Wow, 5 stars for customer service experience !!! Totally made our day. :) 4.5 stars - 5 stars for this library!!

While both are polar opposites on many levels, they both have lots of used books and helpful owners. The Book Exchange is extremely semective about the books they buy and sell. You will see a good selection of histories, biographies, fiction, and children's titles as well. The owner is knowledgeable about his selection and eager to help you find what you are looking for. Once you visit here, go next door for an exercise in personality contrasts.

Whitby Public Library has all the bell and the whistles and anything that I want in my dream library... I think I can even organize my "dream" wedding here! The only problem is the limited number of parking spots. Only around 15 or so for a large library this size (it has more computer terminals than parking lots!!) Of course there are some reasonable municipal parking lots right next to the library at 50 cents a hour and free on evenings, weekends and holidays.

There are two levels one has a few computers in the far corners and the second level has some tables and couches to do some work. Asides from having books on both floors. It also has a cafe in the building, which was neat. I haven't seen a library with a cafe before. I had chosen the couch spot to do some work and sit by the fireplace since it was cold outside. It was quiet and I was able to finish a lot of work while I was there. I would definitely recommend this library to groups as well, since they have rooms you can book to do group assignments. The only thing I would say sucks is the parking, I wasn't able to find parking near the library so I had to park at a P lot, which wasn't too expensive. $1 for 1 hour.

Runnymede Public Library is such a charming little neighbourhood library…read more Runnymede Library was opened on this present site on 1930 and listed on Toronto Historical Board's Inventory of Heritage Properties adopted by City Council, 10 December, 1975. Yes it is as good as your grandmother! Of course, it has went through a couple of renovations. The windows opening up to the park at the back do bring a lot of natural light and outdoor space inside the library. Due to the it's size, the library's own collection is quite limited..but it is a nice place to relax and use their free Wifi!

The Runnymede branch is nice because it backs onto a park space and there is an entire back wall of windows where you can read or do work at tables. There is also an upstairs reading/work area that is well lit and often silent. I like to go up there to look out over Bloor street from above (pigeon view). The upstairs is kind of a secret. They don't really advertise that there is even access to an upstairs space. It's a great place to study, if you live in the area
