Kema Vlees - So fortunate to have access to such good foods.

Good, affordable meats here at Kema Vlees. I walked by here a hundred times before I went inside…read more It's not very large, but they pack a lot of meat in to that space! I was more shocked at the low prices and huge portions. I am not a huge "meat eater" but love chicken (Kip) and some pork. The lekker smell of smoked meats overcome you when you walk in (a good thing). So many choices of smoked meats, sides and anything you want. You could make a full meal and call it your own from the chicken shawarma prepared meals they have here...all you have to do is cook and serve! It is right next to the Ten Kate Markt on the Kinkerstraat....so some competition, but the market (generally) does not have raw meat sold in this capacity. A bit crowded at times...lines form down the street during these Covid-times...but I can't imagine how busy this place would be if there were no restrictions on capacity. A good, friendly place...huge selection. Check it out!

A Dutch friend recommended this butcher and I finally went today. How have I lived here, so close…read moreto this place, for this long and have never been? I feel ashamed! It's well-stocked with all kinds of meats (not fish of course!). There are staff members there if you need help, and they were all smiles today, something I truly appreciate. I asked if they had breakfast bacon, and sadly they don't, so he gave me something else to try. It's a clean and open area so you can easily see everything. It's all well-marked with what it is, prices, and weight. But I really couldn't believe the prices. Between three different packs of meat, a few fruit and vegetables from the market around the corner (http://www.yelp.com/biz/ten-katemarkt-amsterdam-2), was about 10 euro. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Obviously I've been living my life wrong. But it's okay, because I have found the way. My tip: Go here and the market first, then go to the grocery store for what ever is left on your list. My guess is that you will save at least 30-50% on your groceries! I know they take pin and cash.

The guys who work there all really friendly and nice and can speak good english. I ordered lam chop and sauage with rosemary and gralic for BBQ The lamb chop is a perfect cut and really nice meat. The small sauage are tasty but not overwhelmed with herbs. Definitely I will cone back here!

My favorite butcher in Amsterdam!…read more Whenever I want to get something special, I go there. But I also go there if I want to get meat for a week dinner :D I love their range of products. They seem to have it all, and the things they do not, you might be very much able to order. You can have goose or duck rillette, homemade boudin noir, boudin blanc with truffles, English breakfast sausages, other types of sausages which names I do not remember, multiple pâtés, mousse du canard...And I haven't even started on the meat. I highly suggest you visit them. They even have pig legs, if you are fan of homemade aspic. The people who work there are super nice, some also have the famous French accent. They speak English and Dutch, so do not fear. You can pay cash or Dutch pin. Speaking of paying - the prices are very good. My only problem is that they are closed on Mondays and Sundays, and they are not open til late. Therefore, if you need something from there plan it well. Otherwise - #meatlessmonday is a trend now ;)
