Back then, their things were aimed more toward a younger crowd, but I'd have to say that they've reall stepped up their game, and target a 20-something crowd now. That being said, I was invited last minute to a wedding, and I really was in need of some cheap-but-cute jewelry to go with my dress. I decided I would try Claire's first, since I knew the price tag would be right, even all these years later. I entered the Dartmouth Mall around 8:30, leaving me about a half hour of shopping time before closing. That being said, when I got to Claire's, there was only one girl working. She had the little gate that closes off the store halfway down, and was standing at the enterance to the store. As I walked in, she sighed loudly, and rolled her eyes at me when I glanced at her. I was immediately put off and offended, and voiced it by saying, "Okay, I'll go elsewhere then." She responded, "No, it's okay. Are you looking for anything special? I just cleaned." Having had a past in retail, I understand it's annoying to have last minute shoppers in the store when you want to close, but people do work late and may only be able to get to the store at that time... it's just a part of the job. I was extremely shocked that this girl just came out and basically said I don't want you messing up the store I just cleaned. I get that it was probably her first job, as she looked young, but come on. Some things you just keep to yourself. I quickly told her that I was just going to browse and left the store in a huff. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere and will continue to take my business elsewhere. I give the store two stars because you cannot base your review on one employee... but some peope will do just that, and word of mouth does a lot of damage.

The store itself hasn't changed too much over the years, great variety of tshirts and funny greeting cards, great gifts and jewelry for the 20 something year old.. cool cups, shot glasses and regular glasses.. I can always find something to buy here, either for myself or as a gift. This particular location is one of my favorites.. the associates here are so friendly and helpful (if needed!) the store is always neat and clean.. plenty of sizes in clothing and a great variety of merchandise.. for all ages!

You know those stores that as you walk around, you think to yourself; "My mom would like this…read moreplace". Well, that's the Bedford Merchant Gift Shop in downtown New Bedford. They have good prices for quality items like those pictures with calming and comedic sayings that you hang in your kitchen, willow tree sculptures, and sometime half priced candles. I bought a mini Birthday card for my friend for only 50 cents! The Christmas section of the store was all half off because of it being September, and was very..very...Christmas-y. Many large and home-y gems like metallic bird baths, major dolls, and rocking chairs lined the back room. This place may not be for my generation, but If your shopping for your elders, preferably from 35-100, this is the place to go for gift time.

My husband needed a lot of items and Adam and Amy were excellent in making suggestions when they saw which items we liked. They helped organize the items that we wanted to purchase so we could see it all as "a collection", which was very helpful. At checkout time they also were able to steer us into taking advantage of an online/app coupon that we were not aware of that helped manage the cost of our purchase. We were pleased with the quality of the garments, and the service in the store and would highly recommend this store to anyone. My husband and I would shop there even size did not dictate it.

The store owner, manager and all employees are happy to help and are great at what they do. Their social media is fantastic and is how I always know what's in the shop and going on at the shop. There are some products that are very reasonably priced, and then there are things like $120.00 throw pillow that we found (it might actually have been more than that, but I know it was at least 120.00). Yes, $120 for a throw pillow, you heard me. All in all, I would definitely return knowing what to expect.
