Love this place! Very Italian food and very good Italian wine - hidden behind a tiny Italian deli on Frogner. Homemade newly baked foccaccia with equally homemade pesto. Awsome!! We also shared 3 wonderful dishes of pasta. Loved them all.. read more

The Salmon was another seafood restaurant on our list of places to eat while in Oslo…read more It was located in Aker Brygge which was a newer and expensive neighborhood. There was both indoor and covered outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but came early enough to snag an inside table. It was the right choice as the rain really started to come down about that time. One caveat was that we had to wrap up our meal within 1.5 hours which wasn't a problem for us. The menu was unique as it was printed inside a newspaper. One just had to flip pages to find the drink, food and dessert menus. Given the namesake of the restaurant we opted to try three different salmon preparations: Our favorite dish was the salmon tataki which was lightly grilled in a ponzu sauce. If it was larger then we would've gladly eaten this as a main dish. The grilled salmon came in second as it was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment, creamy with truffle flavors. Our least favorite was the hot smoked salmon and pasta salad. There was an unusual taste to the pasta salad that detracted from the salmon. Service was just ok and it took a long while before we could get any attention to close our check. While tipping wasn't expected in Norway, the Salmon's credit card terminals start with a tipping option screen before you can pay. If you're curious about salmon farming in Norway then check out the exhibit at the other end of the restaurant.

The Salmon does an excellent job of showcasing the fresh and wonderful quality of salmon in many different dishes. The tasting plate was one of the best dishes they had. There were three different pieces of salmon with different accompaniment. I don't remember the exact cuts, but one was Lox, and the other was a cold smoke. My guest got a ginger salmon salad she loved. We also got the torched salmon nigiri to taste. The hype is real! This is definitely a must try! They get extremely busy, so a reservation is a must! They had indoor and outdoor seating with a heated patio (it was a bit chilly when we were there).

We ordered the 8 course menu with a Prosecco as a welcome drink. There were many exciting varieties consisting of fish, shellfish, meat and a dessert. Some of the dishes challenged the taste buds but it was very tasty. The only thing that was a little bit 'disappointing' if I may say so, was the meat course which consisted of a kind of taco-course with pulled pork and tortilla. Please don't misunderstand - it tasted good but compared with the rest of the dishes it was a little bit more like something you serve home with your family a a Friday evening. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The interior is stylish and has an exclusive touch. Are you are a party of several persons who want to enjoy a good meal in a social setting, this place is perfect.

We also got a side order of grilled broccolini to get our daily dose of greens. I can definitely understand why the Saucy Joe is one of their bestsellers! I loved the combination of the cheesy sauce with the BBQ-glazed bacon. The beef patty was perfectly cooked and buns were nicely toasted. The burger didn't feel too greasy either. The grilled broccolini was nice as a side with delightful charred bits - I think it was overpriced given the small portion size though and wish it came with more. They also have a healthy selection of beers on tap and intriguing cocktails that I'd love to pair with a burger during my next visit!

The service was very good and our waiter both friendly and quick to keep those beer glasses filled, which we like. We were served some of the best tapas I have tasted in a long time, completely void of oily sausages and over spiced meat balls. Our mixture of scallops, hare, fish, veil and mussels were prepared to tasty perfection, without leaving us with that classical "oil and sause everywhere" feeling that tend to follow the tapas experience, at least here in Norway. I almost felt like I was eating healthy, and I mean that in the best possible way, not the "carrot and dry celery" kind of way. We visited on a Thuesday, so the place weren't busy and the atmosphere was very quiet. Still, we liked the interior, and the layout of the tables made us feel quite secluded from other parties, which is a good thing when you're a Norwegian and prefer to mingle only with the people that you came with. With Escalón, I might just have found my favorite tapas place in Oslo.

Strangely, when we arrived at 1pm, the restaurant was empty, while the one next door was full. Despite this, we trusted our guide and requested a table. This happened even though the restaurant was empty, and this is the main reason why I didn't give it a 5-star review. We shared the grilled reindeer and whale plate, which was delicious, but the portion was on the smaller side.
