At first, I was enamored with Bonnie's warm bedside manner and seeming willingness to answer my questions and explain things in detail. I perceived her as highly competent, progressive in her education and open with patients. I was more impressed than I had ever been with a dentist. It took me nearly two years to see through the BS. I needed substantial restorative and cosmetic dentistry. She asked me if I was in for the 'big plan,' and although I knew it would cost a lot and take a lot of time, I told her I was. From the start, I asked her for a simple estimate of the work she recommended and the costs. Visit after visit, the quote never materialized. I actually had to ask her office to schedule a consultation where I was NOT in a dentist chair for the sole purpose of discussing her recommendations and pricing. When I left, I still had no quote. My perception is that she had no plan for my visits. I would come in expecting to talk about her recommendations and costs, and she would skirt the subject and find 'something to do' during my appointments. She made a wax-up. One day she took pictures. Another day, she actually started some bonding work on a front tooth in preparation for braces that I had not yet agreed to. Thank god she ran out of time. She sent me to her other office to get a cone beam scan of my head. I found out that she's a clever business woman. She is one of few dentists that owns a cone beam scanner and she charges dentists to use it. I had the feeling that as a patient, there wasn't really a need to pump my entire head full of damaging radiation except to increase her sales. She told me I should get all four wisdom teeth removed. I was wary, but I went to the surgeon she recommended and had them removed. Due to the percentage of people who develop cavitations that negatively affect overall health, I still question if I made the right decision. She also told me I should get braces for 1-2 years and then come back for her work. My teeth aren't perfect, but braces were overkill. Seriously? Braces for 1-2 years? My cosmetic issues could efficiently addressed by doing a gingivectomy to even out the gum line, followed by veneers. After 1.5 years of worthless visits, I was fed up and told her that I would grant her one more consultation where she would provide a price quote for her recommended program, or I would leave. She gave me the consultation and her estimate - a generic estimate to crown every single tooth in my mouth. Wow, thanks for the specificity. I quit and asked for copies of my records. They were slow to come and incomplete (e.g., ridiculous paper copies of x-rays instead of digital files). I went to another prosthodontist and here's how it went: On the first visit, he examined my teeth and gave me an estimate before I left the office. He recommended five crowns, a mouth guard (to protect other worn teeth), a gingivectomy to improve the gum line, and six front top veneers. This is exactly the type of plan I was envisioning for my needs. I asked him, "Do you think I should get braces to even out my gum line?" He said, "Sure, if you want to spend that much time and money. But a good gingivectomy and top front veneers will achieve what you want." EXACTLY. I told Bonnie I wanted this plan a couple of times. I actually told her that although I appreciated her dedication to perfection, I wanted a program that would achieve 70% of what she envisioned. She said she would do whatever I wanted, but she was never proactive enough to recommend a plan that worked for me, or execute it. The prosthodontist's costs were higher than Bonnie's (and she's not cheap), so cost was not the issue. He handled the prerequisites (xrays, impressions, etc.) quickly and executed the plan efficiently, without stalling by avoiding cost conversations or conducting wasted appointments with no purpose. A friend who was also seeing Bonnie had a horrible experience and stated that she was considering suing the practice for botched dentistry. It was the weirdest experience I've ever had with a dentist. She came off as very caring and knowledgeable, but my end impression was that she basically strung me along and recommended I go see other dentists for other procedures as a way to gauge my future commitment to paying her big fees, and possibly to delay doing the work, which she didn't seem very interested in starting any time soon. read more

Dr. Ferrell is a good dentist however; how they handled my insurance was NOT GOOD. They assured me I was completely covered for dentist visits with the insurance I had. So when I had to have a cavity filling or something minor done, they had me pay $200 out of pocket because they told me they'd submit the claim to my insurance company and my insurance company would send me money back. Well 3 years later after numerous numerous phone calls and messages left with this dentist office staff etc....only for them to keep telling me someone will get back to me. Finally my insurance tells me that they have no record that this dentist was ever covered under the insurance I had.... So basically they told me I would be covered and I was 100% not covered. And instead of admitting this mistake they just keep telling me when I call to get an explanation that someone will get back to me....I'm STILL waiting for that call and explanation....thanks. read more

I do not usually write reviews, but dentists are important. I was a patient for a year. My first cleaning was typical and they seemed nice so I decided to have my fillings repaired. The work was sufficient, but I thought dr. Ferrel was too rough and caused me unnecessary pain. Then they charged my insurance twice for the work and said that it was normal. On my second cleaning they charged me a supply fee. They said that the insurance doesn't pay them enough. My cleaning took maybe 20 minutes and they didn't use the water pick or really examine my teeth. This upset me so I changed dentists. The new dentist had to spend an hour cleaning my teeth due to the lack of cleaning from the one 6 months prior. They still refuse to give me my records. Don't go here! read more

I typically do not comment on these sorts of things, however, I wanted to inform others. Dr. Ferrell made a mistake that resulted in me having to go to an orthodontist and spend over $1200 on correction of the alignment of my teeth. I never received an apology, rather, she tried to have me come in and spend more money in her office. My orthodontist was astonished that she made the mistake that she did. The other repair that I had done by Dr. Ferrell was poor quality. I had a chipped tooth as a child and wanted it re-filled as the color contrast was visible. The material she used is essentially lumped on my tooth and clearly visible. I am going to another dentist to have it corrected. She is also somewhat rude. My fiancé, and his mom have had similar experiences are we are all changing dentists. read more

BEFORE YOU RUN AWAY, PLEASE READ. Dr. Ferrell was highly recommended by a friend and neighbor. I researched her practice accessing her digital footprint; I went to the "Testimonials" of her professional website which were VERY complimentary course. Her Facebook page allowed no comments. Dr. Ferrell's YELP page yielded much more insightful feedback. 2 out of 5 stars. As I read the reviews I picked up on a trend I should have allowed to guide me from choosing her for my families' dentist. Time after time former patients described the shady practices, billing and insurance practices they had dealt with. I should have listened to my instincts and run, but, instead I told myself, " My friend wouldn't lead me astray. She did and how." She quoted my wife $550.00 (after insurance)for a root canal. After paying that in full she billed her an additional $85. Dr. Ferrell told us she accepted my daughter's insurance. My daughter had a new patient exam and general cleaning. Dr. Ferrell charged her $345.00. This was submitted to insurance which rejected it because Dr. Ferrell was not a approved provider. My daughter is now paying her $10.00 a month as she is a college student with tens of thousands of dollars or student debt. As far as my treatment is concerned, I had a new patient exam and cleaning that was fully covered. So, one may say batting .333 is a pretty good average. Maybe in baseball, but not in financial life. I personally feel her billing is misrepresenting her services at the least and I will be filing a BBB report as well as any other professional review that I come across. read more

I have been getting billed for an appointment for the last 5 months. This office has asked for my insurance multiple times and I have given them all the information they need, but they refuse to bill without a group number that they can easily get by calling MetLife. Their efforts to send me multiple bills with handwritten notes could have easily been avoided by them calling MetLife. They seem to like to spend their time wasting time and upsetting patients based off of some of the other reviews on this site. Dr. Ferrell also told me she does not recommend flossing. I gave found the staff helpful with my insurance issues, I have found the hygienists soft and through and Dr Ferrell has produced a 5 year plan for me to help insure long-term, pain free dental health -- with NO surprises. I have left practices in Boulder, Denver and Estes Park and am thrilled to have found this Lowry GEM. Dr Ferrell's professional associations and stat-of-the-art techniques rival any office I have ever visited. I've been afraid of the dentist since I was a little girl.... Dr. Farrell, her dental assistant and her insurance/office staff are wonderful. My teeth look great and she was meticulous about my fillings. She is approachable, sweet but professional. I'm on blood thinners and need my wisdom teeth out and Dr Farrell was extremely honest about her concerns of doing any oral surgery with my medical complications in her office. I'm in healthcare and those providers that are aware of their limitations are who I would want caring for me any day. An added plus is that her dog will sit in your lap to calm you if needed. After I'd alredy spent 15 minutes on the phone I was informed that I'd have to set up 2 appointments- one for exam and x-rays, one for the cleaning. I have limited time to drive over there. I guess it would have been good to have the info up front before giving over all my personal information. The office manager did a good time selling this dentist. The dentist may have been good. I must say that the staff in the office is very nice. But not Dr. Ferrell. The amount of time she looks at her assistants and rolls her eyes, the amount of cuts you then count on your lips and gums when you come home and anesthesia wears off... She seems nice at first, but then she acts like she's annoyed to death with you if you ask questions. Also, she does try to sell more than you need. I'd never thought I needed braces until... Dr. Ferrell told me. My boyfriend thought that was insane. Also, she did a root canal on my friend, and when my friend showed her X-rays to another dentist his only reaction was WHY. She keeps telling everyone how much she's annoyed with the insurance companies because in the end she's the one to blame, but she DOES tell you that smth is 100% covered and then you get a full-priced bill. Oh, and she overdosed me on anesthesia so I had to stay in a car for an hour because my heartbeat was so bad. I don't write reviews often but this is the person you should be able to trust with your health. read more
