A real storefront bookstore in a beautiful little city center. Bricks and mortar and books, as they say. Picked up an untouched copy of Forest Service history for cheap. Great selection, lots of good local stuff. Very warm and personable. I should've spent more time here and made sure I saw all they had! There are good, used copies of North Idaho books that I'll never see again. One of a kind, clean and timeless. Places like this are a rarity, don't miss it if you're in town and definitely not if you're a reader. read more

We were hunting for maps to get around in Canada, and found a review here on Yelp saying they carried a good selection. They had what we needed and tempted some things we didn't. Tiny Bonner's Ferry Idaho, and any and all travelers passing through! You are SOOO lucky to have Bonners Books to drop into and visit (and hopefully, support this local institution with a purchase or two!) A couple of people stopped by to buy topographic maps while I was slowly perusing the book selection, so if you're a hiker or adventurer in the area, this is a good resource for maps as well. Local authors, local interest, history, some used books, art books, fiction, cookbooks, nature, gardening...how does Bonners Books fit it all in? Oh, and there are cards and postcards and wonderful gifts tucked here and there. There's a seating area with a piano, where, yes, people do play. Old wooden floors, a staircase you can't go up (I wanted to...), and well-signed book shelves could keep one happily mesmerized for an hour or so. My favorite bookstore in the world. The local selections are special, the feel and decor is authentic North Idaho, and the breadth of unique, wonderful selections is astounding. A few years ago they celebrated being in business for 25 years, and their bookmarks had the phrase "Celebrating 25 Years of Improbability" embossed on them. I recently found a book on my shelves with one of those bookmarks, and I'm tempted to frame it. This place makes my heart sing. read more
