However, do not fret there are guardsmen/guards-women that will direct you on which area to park in. I have a scary Two year old that is afraid of just about everything and anything that moves without his permission so he was not having it. I did manage to scheme my way in to the carousel ride although he cried at first but once I Talked him through and made him laugh so he was distracted. The rides are perfect for like 5 and up or again not scary two year olds. There's a Ferris Wheel and even pony rides. The food was where they lost 1 star. I was sop excited to try the different varieties of food. Believe you me there were a lot. I just wasn't to thrilled with the taste and flavoring of many of them. Honestly i enjoyed the lemonade and cotton candy. But surprisingly the concert band called "Off Da Hook" was where I enjoyed myself and gave this Festival the whopping 4. I mean this was like the perfect cover band ever! i ENJOYED the suspense of trying to predict what the next song would be. Like they covered Rick James, EU, Stevie Wonder, Maroon 5, etc. I mean I was purely entertained. My son loved the band he dance all night long! So I was a little thrown off at first because of a few things that I'm not used to seeing at any other festivals in Louisiana. For starters it wasn't outside. In fact it was inside a building that reminded me of my high school gym. Another thing that threw me off was not seeing much to eat. C'mon folks this is Louisiana right? Home of the best food in the world. The food choices consisted of only jambalaya, BBQ, burgers, funnel cakes, nachos, and fries. The booze selection wasn't too bad as it was on par with other fests.....plentiful beer and daiquiris. But what will keep me coming back to this fest for yrs to come is that all the funds go to cystic fibrosis research. I love anything to do with helping others. I also had a blast hanging out with some of the most warm-hearted and jovial people I have ever met. Louisiana knows how to party!!! Was this fest a little redneck? Definitely. It is in Gonzales right?!! Are you going to come to the Swamp Pop Music Fest for the food? Probably not Will everyone there be dancing? You betcha Will you have a good time? HELL YEAH So what exactly is Swamp Pop Music? I'm still not sure after listening to over 12 hrs of music at this fest but damn it was a crazy fun little festival.

I didn't go looking for a particular band although I enjoyed what I heard. I came for the food!!! I went on Saturday which is day 2 of the festival. We got there around 11:30, it wasn't too crowded but they were definitely in full swing. By 4:30 the crowd had tripled in size. Lines were moving quickly and the options were endless. We tried several things and everything was so fresh and on point. A few standouts were the oxtail melt, the gumbo dumplings, and the must try alligator cheesecake. My only suggestion would be to allow water bottles to be brought in or, at least empty ones and have a fill station. Next, more seating in the sponsor lounge. The venue was large, and had plenty of space for more seating areas. Also the food in the lounge was lacking in variety, although I enjoyed the salad offering. The bartenders up there were great, and I loved the terrace overlooking the festival.

Objectively, this is more or less your standard festival. There's a lot of food booths, a music…read morestage, merchandise stalks, and a large section of carnival rides and games for kids. It lasts for four days, with admission being free on the first day and then $5 in the remaining three days. It's pretty easy to get to, and parking isn't even that bad because there's a large Wal-Mart right next door. As far as attractions go, there were two standouts. First was the caricature drawing booth, a neat idea that I don't recall seeing at many festivals. Second was the crawfish bread. With Jazz Fest postponed, the chance to get crawfish bread was awesome. Not that I actually got any - that line was waaay too long - but still. Because the pandemic is still a thing, the festival this year has one unusual offering: vaccines. I saw at least two different tables set up to give COVID vaccines. They were set up kinda off the beaten path though, and didn't seem to have any takers. Still not a bad idea though.
