Lots of alums were out to cheer on the band as it marched in the parade. Love seeing the local pride. The bands were great and, of course, the riders were super generous with their throws. This year was extra awesome, I brought my niece to see her Daddy ride AND I got to bring awesome PDX Yelpers Melvin & Merilou to their very 1st carnival parade. It was really fun to see the parade through their eyes and my niece had a ton of fun and the crowd was not too aggressive or pushy. Plus I love the esoteric themes, so Endymion goes to the opera was right up my alley. Definitely a great parade...to see away from Orleans Ave.

Endymion is the biggest parade of them all and as such the crowds do come out in droves. I love Endymion! It is easily my #1 or #2 favorite parade (the others being Orpheus and Zulu). It's so hard to pick a favorite. It would be nice to see Endymion with the sun still around. I always catch it at night on crazy as heck Canal St. in downtown area. If you only have a chance to go to one parade during Mardi Gras go to Endymion! Guaranteed fun!!

After paying admission and locking up the bikes, we bypassed the crafts area and did a once around of the food booths. I started with a Shrimp and Mirliton Stew with Cheddar Cheese Grits from Karma Kitchen. This dish was really tasty once properly seasoned with a little hot sauce. Next up was Pickled Mirliton Cole Slaw with Grilled Shrimp from Elizabeth's . Friggin' awesome! After a glass of wine from Bacchanal, I ended the afternoon with a Shrimp Stuffed Mirliton from Jack Dempsey's Restaurant. Good but not as good as the first two dishes. Elizabeth's was also serving up some other tasty looking dishes at their booth, so I might have to go check them out! The music was definitely local and happening. We met one of my dinner clubbers there and popped a squat and enjoyed the food, music, wine and weather... The crafts area had some interesting local items, including some brightly colored signs with local sayings and scenes, and some cool S&WB water main belt buckles that I will buy at the next Bywater Market. Turnout was pretty good and you can bet I'll be at next year's Mirliton Festival!

This review is for this area of the city and the block party…read more We go to New Orleans every spring break, and have been lucky enough for the last two years to have St Patrick's day fall during our time off. This year we stayed in the Irish Channel for a few days. Our place was just a couple of blocks away from the block party, and what a party was!! It rained early, so we headed over early afternoon and things were in full effect. We walked around a lot, but spent most of our time at Tracy's Irish bar. The streets and bars are way overcrowded, but so much fun. We headed over to NOLA brewing for the rest of the evening for more drinking and incredible live music. Then we walked back to our air b and b. What a great day! There's always a party in New Orleans, but the official block party in the Irish channel is a real rager.

The St. Patrick's Block Party is something everyone should experience at least once…read more The problem is that the parade is usually on a work day so I have always missed it. This past year I decided that taking the day off to attend was a wise use of my accrued vacation days. The party primarily takes place in the block between Tracey's and Parasol's. Both locations have outside and inside bars for drinks, which are much less crowded than the bars inside. There are also a good number of portable toilets and despite staying till the cops shut it down, we never had to wait long to pee. Drink prices were what you would expect at an event like this which is to say they were not cheap. Shannon's idea about bringing drinks is a good one, and in the future, that is what I will do. My buddy and I arrived shortly after lunch. The party was in full swing and fairly crowded, but once people started getting off of work the party got significantly more crowded. This party had some of the best people watching of any event I have been to. Some of the most memorable sights were the obviously high girl wearing no shirt and the extremely intoxicated older man with no shirt, but a completely green suit. I actually took a photo with him where he is trying to kiss me and I am flashing the shocker. Needless to say, that classy photo is sitting on my desk at work. In summary, take off of work, and come to this party. When you see me, say hi.

From March 3-5, 2017, The 26th Annual New Orleans Spring RV & Camping Show was in full effect at…read morethe Kenner Pontchartrain Center. The event was blessed with beautiful weather on Saturday and the crowds reflected it, as there were a lot of people on site; which is good for the venue. Admission was $10.00 for adults and children 15 and under received free admission. There was lots of free parking and kudos to the event for having a shuttle bus to run people back and forth from the parking lot to the venue. There were 3 seminars with Billy Thibodeaux of Premiere RV, Inc.; one each day of the event. As you walked in the door, you were immediately met by a 1923 Model T Dream Camper which tows its own outhouse. The owners, 78-year-old Rod Cathcart and 83-year-old Bob Barkwill, also provided live musical entertainment for the arriving guests. This event featured both indoor & outdoor displays, as well as several camping related vendor exhibitions. Local favorites such as Bent's RV, Berryland Campers & Dixieland RV were all on site and eager to make a sale; and I saw plenty of sales taking place during the 3 hours I was there. For the record, I am an RV fan and am fortunate that my father-in-law has a 36 foot RV that I get to use all the time. However, even if you are not in the market for an RV or a trailer, this venue is a perfect and inexpensive way to keep your young children occupied for a good half a day. Now if your child is anything like mine, he'll want to board nearly every single trailer, toy hauler and RV at the exhibition, and you'll be pretty tired by the time you chase him/her around all day. This is good wholesome fun for the family and I hardly wait till next year. There is something for everyone here, as you can get a travel trailer for as little as $10,000.00 or a luxury Class A Diesel Motorhome for $500,000.00.
