Nathan also understood that I was reluctant to spend money for a service visit/repair that could exponentially exceed the value of this 20+ year old refrigerator. As a result, he provided me with several troubleshooting tips that I performed to help narrow down the root cause of the issue. I was able to check these things the same evening and share updates with Nathan via text. Once again, he responded promptly (after hours), and determined that repairing this refrigerant leak was going to be expensive. I credit Nathan with saving me a lot of money to repair an old refrigerator and, at the very least, money saved for a service visit which would've resulted in the same answer. In conclusion, Nathan was polite, professional, and a great communicator. He didn't charge me for his remote troubleshooting or the pro-tips. I paid $147 just for the service visit, and after looking at the washer, I was told he thought the problem was the shift actuator. For someone I hired as a professional, I expected an actual diagnosis not a guess. Even worse, the technician did not leave everything the way he found it. The drip line for my dehumidifier had been removed from the drain pipe, which resulted in water spilling everywhere. That is completely unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. Then I was quoted approximately $480 for the repair. My washer is only around $699 brand new at Lowe's. So I'm supposed to spend nearly $500 repairing an older washer based on a diagnosis that was essentially "I think this is the problem"? At that point, what is the justification for repairing it when a brand-new machine is only a couple hundred dollars more? For the amount I paid just to have someone come out, I expected a proper diagnosis, competent service, and for my home to be left in the condition it was found. I received none of that. Very disappointed. I would not recommend Becker's Appliances for appliance repair.

That said, I've used Modern Home Services multiple times over the years, but my last experience was upsetting and frustrating to the point I feel the need to write this. I have an older stackable unit that I debated repairing versus just replacing. I called and spoke with the nice guy who often answers the phone there. I thought he was the owner...he is not. I told him my situation and my debate about replacing versus repairing. He told me the part cost and estimated that the repair would total up around $200. After thinking about it, I could accept $200 versus a full replacement so I scheduled the repair. The guy who came out to do the repair was the actual owner (I didn't know that until later). He replaced the shorted overheating sensor and it was back working, great. When he first put it back together it was a little squeaky, so he adjusted something and it sounded like it was fine. He writes up the bill and to my shock it was $350!! Way more than I ever would have agreed to in advance, hence why I tried to determine that. I frustratingly paid the bill and then proceeded to call the guy I spoke with originally, asking why it was so much more when the repair was EXACTLY what he thought it would be (shorted overheating element). He didn't have an acceptable answer, other than the owner (guy who came out) charged what he charged. Now, after using it for the first time since it was repaired, I'm noticing a squeak and some metal on metal sound. It had NONE of that before the repair. I called back and they are telling me it's likely a bearing and it will be another $200 to fix it. No freaking way, and it didn't have this issue until you took it apart. It didn't just magically show up instantly after the repair, I think he didn't have it right when he put it back together and the weight of the clothes brought back the noises that were there when he first put it back together. No offer was made to come take a look, just to make sure the repair was done correctly. Based on this experience, I will never use them again and cannot recommend that anyone else do so. Sad to say.
