    Door Jamb - Wood Magic

Think of Door Jamb as going to DSW: rows and rows and endless rows of shoes. That's what Door Jamb…read moreis- rows and endless rows of doors. Located on Rt 28 in Shokan, NY, Door J. worked for several reasons: we knew we were getting solid wood doors, close to home and, we were satisfied with the customer service from the get-go when we first came here to inquire. Plus Door J., has an incredible stock on salvaged doors that come directly from suppliers. They claim their doors are "either overstock, inaccurate orders, or have slight cosmetic defects, but all the products are new and structurally sound". And if you can't find your door here, one will be ordered for you. That's what we did. I love our wide pass-through living room in our new home, but we wanted to have the option of closing it off if we want to- or keeping it open. Barn-styled doors was our go-to. Chris was super helpful the first time we came here and gave us a in-depth rundown about Door J. Do know, this place does not: (1)deliver and (2)install doors- because that's on you or your contractor- if you're using one- which we did. We were also in the market for slider windows for our basement and these folks helped with that. Because Door J. is an Andersen Window distributor, we were even more ecstatic that we could have our cake and eat too by ordering our barn doors AND 5 small slider windows because they seal tightly against air, water and anything else. You can go to Home D. or Lowe's. We're here because products are great and customer service rocks.

While a cool venue in an artsy town that is a fun and easy destination for guests, our experience…read morewith the planning team was completely horrible. They were hands down the most unprofessional event planning team I have ever experienced. All smiles and good wishes on the onset, but 'oh-so-busy-all-the-time' thereafter. Expect unreturned emails and phone calls, petty upsells, strategic disorganization, no vision, some rudeness and a lot of weird math. After about the umpteenth 'now what' it sadly felt like this small-minded, sidewinder approach was what they thought was smart business.

BRIDES BEWARE: Hidden Fees, and unprofessional coordinator Parker…read more Renting the basilica for your wedding is very expensive, $13k expensive, but what they don't disclose is that $13k is just the start of the fees they will randomly hit you with. If you're like me and money is valuable to you, then please keep reading before you book. Here is a *short* list of all the ways Parker at Basilica scams you: -1) First contract included a caveat that IF basilica gets a liquor license within 6 months you must pay them and undisclosed amount for alcohol. Parker refused to give us an amount to budget for this secret clause. -2) Next issue was when Parker rented out the Friday of our wedding without telling us the amount we would receive back. She promised us we'd "split" the cost which would mean $6k, but in reality we only received $2k back, and the Friday bride still paid the full amount. When we said no, we were told it's too late to go back and she wouldn't even issue us a new contract detailing out the change because she didn't have time. At this point we knew our contract meant nothing. -3) Third issue was when we wanted to bring in all our own rentals, including lights, since of course the lights are extra. Parker told us it would cost us a fee to remove the lights, and that we had to pay to rent the lights from her. -4) Fourth issue was after we just gave in to paying for lights that we couldn't take down, we decided to add on tables. We originally ordered 20 to be safe but we got our final count and only needed 15. Parker told us we couldn't change the tables because the Friday bride needed more. -5) One week before our wedding, we were then told we owed tax on the rentals for the lights and table rentals, even after we had her confirm there were no more incremental hidden fees. -6) Lastly our "refundable" security deposit apparently contains a $400 non-refundable cleaning fee which we also found out days before the wedding. I pray that the Basilica hires a new, professional coordinator so no other couple has to go what we went through. Good luck!!
