    Pasta flight - 4 pastas & 4 sauces

We have driven past the sign on hwy 63 for years and were finally able to stop in. A very simple little place surrounded by beautiful fields to enjoy out the windows as you dine. Very clean, incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. We enjoyed the pasta "flight" as an appetizer so we could taste the different sauces prior to ordering. Also ordered deep fried ravioli, spaghetti with meatballs, and the Italian sausage sandwich. Portion size is generous and everything was delicious. We will definitely return.

My wife is from a small town in north west Wisconsin. I have been heard about and wanted to try Bona Case for the past 20 years. We finally placed a pick up order and were about to try Bona Casa. We did as we usually do and that's order way too much food. Our order consisted of a gallon of their red sauce, a container of their white sauce, both types of their ravioli, meatballs, breadsticks and some Italian sausage. Thank you to the young man who took our order over the phone. He was very friendly and helpful! First thoughts when we picked up our food were this is a lot of food! We ate some for two nights and still have more. The ravioli look like Cha Siu Bao or for those who don't eat much Chinese food, they are about the size of a tennis ball. Biggest ravioli we have ever seen. Needless to say we were a little apprehensive. I mean these are big ravioli. The result? Best ravioli we've ever had! We ordered both flavors with the cheese and raisin being our favorite. Yes that sounds weird and we only ordered those based on another review. They were excellent. The ravioli are homemade. The inside is filled with what could be a cheese curd. There is a nice chunk of cheese in those ravioli. I mean hey, this is Wisconsin! Both sauces were good. The red sauce tasted more basic where the white sauce had some pepper jack (more cheese). The meatballs are pork and beef and have really good flavor. They are a little dense but otherwise are flavored well. The bread sticks were nothing special. First time we heated them up we wrapped them in foil. The second time which was better we put them on a cookie sheet then brushed them with butter. Due to the size and amount of sausage we didn't eat that yet. Since we have plenty of sauce that'll go well with future meals. We love small family owned places and Bona has been around a long time. We'll definitely be going back to get some more ravioli soon.

Imagine driving down a sleepy country road, seeing cars pour into a restaurant around the 5 pm opening time (close to a dozen in the 15 minutes we waited for take out), and finding what I think you'll agree is guilty-pleasure, home-cooked from scratch, northern Italian food like the Italian Grandma you never had would make. In this case, the place is named Bona Casa foods and my wife tells me a couple guys have owned and operated this gem since the mid 80's. I've driven past the sign on State Hwy 63 for at least 8 years AFTER a friend recommended Bona Casa and for 16 years total. Trust me, the side track about 2 miles east on the quiet road is well worth it. We ordered one cavatills and one chicken and cheese ravioli, a salad and garlic bread and the two of us feasted for two meals. One order included the Italian sausage. We had both pastas lathered in half white and half red sauce. The cavatills were my first and won't be my last. Nothing about them screamed low cal but I didn't care. The pasta and sauces combined with the salad, garlic bread and wine made for an incredible meal. And ours was take out. Take out portions - generous - I think they typically serve family style. Bona Casa is a must if your in the area or passing through the Cumberland area. I didn't step inside but my wife said they're was plenty of seating. If there's a wait, there's plenty of room outside for kids to run around. Bona Casa has become one of my go to spots for take out when heading the the cabin. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The sandwich was good, but there was no garnish. The sandwich was pressed with lots of meat. You'd think they could add a bit of lettuce or something to not make it look so sparse. The Pot Roast Burger (dang that sounds tasty), Baonator BLT (oh, man, I love lots of bacon on a BLT!), Louies Italian Roast Beef (yum, served on a garlic butter hoagie bun) or one of their amazing Paninis? How to choose? We decided on the Italian roast beef, and it was great. I'm going to admit I have a problem with lunch places, especially when I come after the noon rush because so many times the French fries are sad, barely warm wilted fries and the hot sandwich isn't much better. Let me tell you right now that Louies makes sure the hot sandwiches are steaming hot and the fries are crispy and right out of the fries. I was in lunch heaven! Just know all the restaurant meat comes from their own butcher shop right down the street, Louie's Finer Meats, another must stop when in town. Both places will bring joy to your taste buds!

The restaurant is actually located in the back of the building. We parked street side since the back was full from festival ride and food trucks setting up for an event. The place was busy. Not a seat left at the bar. The tables were pretty full so we immediately thought we made a great decision stopping at Nexxy's. Unfortunately it took a while for the server to come by our table. That was okay but she immediately went to handle tables of locals she obviously knew that walked in after us. When the sever took our order she didn't seem very happy but we smiled and tried to be as friendly as we could and she warmed up. For being so busy, our server was the only server on duty. I believe the owner had to com out and help. We ordered cocktails and our server made sure they were made correctly which was great. We split the bacon burger and a large pepperoni & olive pizza. The burger was dry, we ordered a medium burger but it appeared to be a frozen patty so obviously there is no way to make it medium. The thin crust pizza was not crispy but soggy, however it did have decent flavor. We would have ordered more drinks but the server never came back to ask us if we wanted another drink, she just dropped off the check and walked away. This is definitely a locals spot so you will get great service if they know you. If you're not a local, you may be waiting a while.

The rest of the week is reset for private events. First, the venue is the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy the large property when the weather is nice. There are a couple of buildings with outdoor seating as well as indoor space for events. There is a large flat screen TV by the bar inside the main building if you would like to sit and enjoy a game, etc. They have outdoor live entertainment which was very nice to sit back and listen to the music. They also had a few yard games which people were enjoying. The website isn't quite up to date as it instructs you to bring your own picnic supplies, non alcoholic beverages, etc. as they just serve beer. However, they do provide paper plates and napkins a well as have a full bar including some wine and non alcoholic beverages for purchase. Sawmill had a set menu of a few thin crust pizza options as well as a handful of seasonal pizzas. No additional pizza toppings allowed but you can ask for a topping to be removed if you don't like it. Our group ordered a Pep Fest which is tomato sauce, pepperoni, co-jack and a Trippin' Balls which is tomato sauce, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, sausage, mozzarella. The pizza was okay. Toppings are limited. The pizzas are cooked in an outdoor wood fired pizza oven so we were expecting more of a crispy thin crust pizza. The pizza dough is not crispy but soft and doughy. Not exactly what we were expecting but the flavor was pretty good. Every employee we encountered was nice and everyone seemed to enjoy working there. It's a nice place to hang out, have a drink and enjoy the outdoors and live entertainment.

It's out in a rural area, quite a trek west of downtown Clear Lake. But they have plenty of signs directing the way. And "yes", back in the day, it used to be a real working sawmill. I was skeptical when my 2 Wisconsin friends invited me to hang out at Sawmill on a Sunday. Only open 1 day a week on Sundays? Only open from 2:30 to 7:00? Only 4 kinds of pizza? Yes, it's true! But it's great! The property is huge, many acres with tons of parking. They have multiple buildings, outdoor activities, a lake across the street, live music, pizza, beer, and soda. The whole atmosphere is like a super chill county fair - awesome! The custom pizzas are great too. They're all the same size - large. The pizza is neopolitan style & cooked in a brick fired oven. The flavor options are great. They're all, basically, giant gourmet Italian style pies. They can definitely compete with any fancy-dancy pizza joint in the Twin Cities (minus the snobbery). The beer options are excellent. They have a bunch of interesting craft beers on tap in addition to standard options in cans & bottles. Finally, this place is run like a clock. They're extremely well organized. Everyone is super friendly too. That goes for the staff as well as the guests. (No pets or outside alcohol allowed.) For those of you that may be interested, Sawmill does special events too. LOW CARB: It was a little tricky eating low carb, carnivore style at Sawmill. Basically, I picked the pizza with the most meat & the thickest toppings and I scraped all the toppings off the doughy crust. It worked fine. I ate all the toppings and none of the high carb dough. And I saved the crust for the family of noisy crows that visits me every morning. So everyone was happy...me, my buddies, and my feathered friends. A big thumbs up! -Maxx

I walked up to the bar, was greeted by a woman with a sour look on her face, and ordered a non-alcoholic Bloody Mary. I asked for it to be spicy. I've been ordering these drinks with and without alcohol for about 40 years now: This was the only undrinkable one I've encountered. It tasted like Red Hot on the rocks. I took a couple of sips and had to go throw up in the bathroom. Not kidding. My stomach and mouth were on fire. I'm still sick over an hour later. The two people I was with ordered food and were happy with it. I only had this horrible drink. When the waitress came back a couple of times, my full drink sat in front of me. She didn't ask if something was wrong with it. The second time she came back to the table I told her she could take the drink, that it was not drinkable. She said their mix is hot. Understatement of the year! There aren't a lot of people up north who like things spicy. I, however, do. She was kind enough to leave the full glass and bring a bill for $8.50. I paid it. On the way out, I handed the full drink to the sour faced lady that had originally "greeted" me at the bar. I told her it was so hot that it was undrinkable. No offer of a refund. I told her it was a nice way to spend $8.50. Now I remember why we stopped going here.
