Cheese and raisin ravioli or chicken? If you know, you know. This is a Cumberland staple since I was a very young child. The Italian culture shines through as you can order just about any type of pasta here but the staple items tend to be ravioli and cavatille. The sausage is 100% made in house but many believe it comes from Louie's Meats, which is not true. Normally, I'd get a meatball with my pasta but not here. Sausage all the time! Many of the meals are served with a side salad and a basket of breadsticks for the entire table. Recently under new ownership, there has been a slight uptick in menu options and Bona Casa now carries pesto sauce (which previously never existed) along with a facelift of decor. The staff here works extremely hard for their customers. If you're in the area, swing by! They still have their frozen options, take outs and classic pizzelles. read more

We have driven past the sign on hwy 63 for years and were finally able to stop in. A very simple little place surrounded by beautiful fields to enjoy out the windows as you dine. Very clean, incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. We enjoyed the pasta "flight" as an appetizer so we could taste the different sauces prior to ordering. Also ordered deep fried ravioli, spaghetti with meatballs, and the Italian sausage sandwich. Portion size is generous and everything was delicious. We will definitely return. read more

My wife is from a small town in north west Wisconsin. I have been heard about and wanted to try Bona Case for the past 20 years. We finally placed a pick up order and were about to try Bona Casa. We did as we usually do and that's order way too much food. Our order consisted of a gallon of their red sauce, a container of their white sauce, both types of their ravioli, meatballs, breadsticks and some Italian sausage. Thank you to the young man who took our order over the phone. He was very friendly and helpful! First thoughts when we picked up our food were this is a lot of food! We ate some for two nights and still have more. The ravioli look like Cha Siu Bao or for those who don't eat much Chinese food, they are about the size of a tennis ball. Biggest ravioli we have ever seen. Needless to say we were a little apprehensive. I mean these are big ravioli. The result? Best ravioli we've ever had! We ordered both flavors with the cheese and raisin being our favorite. Yes that sounds weird and we only ordered those based on another review. They were excellent. The ravioli are homemade. The inside is filled with what could be a cheese curd. There is a nice chunk of cheese in those ravioli. I mean hey, this is Wisconsin! Both sauces were good. The red sauce tasted more basic where the white sauce had some pepper jack (more cheese). The meatballs are pork and beef and have really good flavor. They are a little dense but otherwise are flavored well. The bread sticks were nothing special. First time we heated them up we wrapped them in foil. The second time which was better we put them on a cookie sheet then brushed them with butter. Due to the size and amount of sausage we didn't eat that yet. Since we have plenty of sauce that'll go well with future meals. We love small family owned places and Bona has been around a long time. We'll definitely be going back to get some more ravioli soon. read more

Imagine driving down a sleepy country road, seeing cars pour into a restaurant around the 5 pm opening time (close to a dozen in the 15 minutes we waited for take out), and finding what I think you'll agree is guilty-pleasure, home-cooked from scratch, northern Italian food like the Italian Grandma you never had would make. In this case, the place is named Bona Casa foods and my wife tells me a couple guys have owned and operated this gem since the mid 80's. I've driven past the sign on State Hwy 63 for at least 8 years AFTER a friend recommended Bona Casa and for 16 years total. Trust me, the side track about 2 miles east on the quiet road is well worth it. We ordered one cavatills and one chicken and cheese ravioli, a salad and garlic bread and the two of us feasted for two meals. One order included the Italian sausage. We had both pastas lathered in half white and half red sauce. The cavatills were my first and won't be my last. Nothing about them screamed low cal but I didn't care. The pasta and sauces combined with the salad, garlic bread and wine made for an incredible meal. And ours was take out. Take out portions - generous - I think they typically serve family style. Bona Casa is a must if your in the area or passing through the Cumberland area. I didn't step inside but my wife said they're was plenty of seating. If there's a wait, there's plenty of room outside for kids to run around. Bona Casa has become one of my go to spots for take out when heading the the cabin. I mostly but take out that I cook myself at home. Marinara style sauce which I love. This sauce recipe is very traditional to the Italian community in the area. If you want home style Italian cooking that was passed down from multiple generations and not altered, this is your place. If you want over spiced, non traditional recipes go somewhere else that has a huge bill at the end of your meal. I recently found myself in Wisconsin this last weekend (No, I hate the Packers) visiting some friends and they told us we just HAD to try this amazing Italian restaurant they always go to when they are back home. Since this place is a small town in the middle of Wisconsin, I didn't have high expectations. As we pull up to the building, they didn't get much better. The outside of the building screamed small town mediocrity BUT I had to give it a try anyways. What first surprised me was that we were the 9th party in line for a table at 5:00 pm on a Saturday night. That's saying something. Atmosphere inside of the place is a bit dated. Very 1990's and forgettable, but hey I'm usually out for the food and if that is great, I really don't mind as much. This is where they really take the cake. Almost all of their pasta options (I think the spaghetti isn't) homemade and super tasty. Their ravioli is great. It is more like a huge dumpling than a tiny ravioli that I am usually served at an Italian place. The choice for ravioli is either chicken or cheese or wait for it...raisin and cheese. I know, it sounds weird, but I actually preferred raisin and cheese over the chicken. Their other homemade things like sauces and bread sticks are great too. I really liked their take on Alfredo sauce; it was a pepper jack white sauce. It was unique and very tasty on all of their homemade pasta. This place is definitely worth the wait. I grew up eating Bona Casa. It was originally a very small house converted into a restaurant and was terribly popular in those parts. Some time in the last 10 years or so they built on and now have enough seating capacity to alleviate the long lines. Most people either go there for the pizza or the pasta, but not both. I'm a fan of the chicken ravioli, myself. The ravioli are giant sized and you order them by number, either 4, 6 or 9. Meal comes with a soft breadstick, tiny iceberg lettuce salad, sausage and a bowl of extra sauce. Some people complain that over the years the amount of chicken has been disappearing, but the ravioli still taste great and where else can you get so much good food for under $8? They also sell their sauce by the jar and ravioli frozen by the half dozen. So, whenever I visit home, I bring some frozen ravioli and a case of sauce back on the plane. Now, that's love. read more

Since living in California, I have tried to get several people to send me frozen Bona in dry ice, but to no avail... I grew up eating here, and I have fond memories of the old building with scenes of Venice on the walls and the saloon-style doors to get to the bathrooms (as kids we ALWAYS had to go to the bathroom here, just to go through the doors). The new building doesn't have the doors, sadly, but the food is still excellent. Cheese and raisin ravioli is my favorite, and cavatelli are a must. They also make their own Italian sausage. I grew up in Iowa, and our favorite Aunt lives close by in Clear Lake, Wi. I have been eating here my entire life. It's delicious! I am now gluten-free, so I can't enjoy their pasta. However, I LOVED their ravioli and cavatelli as a kid. Their sauce is absolutely perfect--I wish I could recreate it. When I go now, I take my cooked GF pasta, and they serve it up with their sauce and a side of sausage--which is to die for. This place is a little hidden gem. If you're in the area, make sure to stop in. You won't be disappointed. I am going to nominate it for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Ok, I used to think the worse Italian food on the face of the earth was Cici's pizza that is all over the SE USA. Nope, just found some that is worse. Canned spaghetti is far preferable. Should have figured it out when the waiter did not even give us enough time to sit down and take our coats off before hustling us to order. Yeah the portions are big. But there is no other redeeming reasons to go here. I believe the Red sauce it nothing but cheap canned tomato sauce, no flavor, not even served hot. Just dumped over some over cooked watered down pasta that also is cold. No taste! Ravioli is strange to say the least! Not your typical square stuffed pasta, more like a tasteless dumpling. To call this a Italian restaurant is like calling White Castle a high end steak house. What I cannot figure out is why people are lined up to get in the place. It has to be quanity over quality. Cuz there sure is no other reason to give them your hard earned cash. Oh and the ravioli is even worse. I could go on, but you get the idea. On the plus side, the place is clean, stark white, but clean. FYI, no wine or other alcohol if that matters to you. Just do not assume you can get your Old Mill. If your not a local or this is your first time eating here, you'll probably hate it. This place is known locally for their unique cheese&raisin ravioli and the locals love it, but the primary makeup of the community is Scandinavian and they do not use spices. I have friends that live there that seriously think a little black pepper on food makes it too "spicy". If your from anywhere else you're probably going to think everything is pretty bland. The ravioli themselves are about as Wisconsin as you can imagine. About 95/5 cheese to noodle ratio, and they're huge - easily 200-300 calories each. I have lived in the area for three years now and always hear people saying to try bona casa, so last night my family and i did and here is our opinion. The service was great, portions were huge, atmosphere was laid back and family oriented. The problem we had was taste. I ordered half spaghetti, half cavetti? The sauce tasted like it had come straight from a can with no seasoning. It was very bland to say the least. My family all had the same conclusion with their meals as well. I was very unimpressed by the food My wife and I stopped by, and ordered the sampler platter. We tried the cheese and raisin ravioli, pizza, salad, and cheese bread. It was edible, but thats about it. The marinara sauce which was put on everything tasted like it came out of a can. The salad was just a bag salad, and the pizza the crust was like cardboard. Bona Casa is an Italian restaurant north of Cumberland in the middle of rural Wisconsin. It truly is a family business, with fresh pasta and other ingredients made on site. The menu is small but good--I recommend the family dinner that offers a little bit of everything; cavatelli, ravioli with cheese and raisins, chicken ravioli, homemade sausage, and sausage pizza (I will say that pizza is not their forte). Bona Casa is out of this world! It is the Midwest meeting Italy and the result is something you have never eaten before. First of all, there is no small petite plates here ... that is why my wife usually goes with the child's portion and still cannot finish it. I always go with the sample platter and ... after having fasted all day in preparation ... I usually can finish it. The wait staff is average, the salad is terrible, the ambiance leaves much to be desired and the panoramic views of cornfields hardly take you away to Tuscany ... however my focus is none of the frills and all of the extremely good homemade pasta! Delicious Italian food! It's a smaller, family-owned restaurant that is typically fairly busy....and for good reason! Our family loves this hidden gem and their sauce is by far my favorite! The pricing is fair and the servings are perfect - we typically order large servings so we can enjoy the meal while we're there and have enough to take home for lunch the following day. This is a great go to restaurant. It is the staple at many or all of the graduation parties around town. :) Their sauce is amazing and my favorite are the cavatillis. I also love the spamoni ice cream. The food items excluding the spaghetti is homemade at the restaurant. The process is pretty amazing. My one year old loves the cavatilli.
