On a recent visit to London, I was supposed to meet a cousin for dinner at a typical English pub. As I discovered on multiple occasions, it seems like ALL the locals head straight to the pubs right after work to hoist a pint. These pubs are often overflowing with patrons drinking in the streets at this time. For real! Try that in Toronto.
At first glance, Bon Vivant appeared to be a coffee shop, offering only light fare. But wait, they have a dining room. And a vacant table. French food? I have to admit, I was reluctant to have French food because I was heading to Paris in a few days and I would have liked the English pub experience but we couldn't get into any in this area.
Cocktails and wine were a good start while we waited for our meals and got caught up with life. We ordered the Salmon Fillet, Roasted Cod Fillet, Spring Risotto, and Barbecue Pork Chop. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted great! The colours were as rich as the taste. Even the normally monotone risotto was attractively presented. They were all cooked perfectly and full of flavour. This was a good dinner!
The quality of the meal inspired us to try (share) some dessert and we were not disappointed. The Tart du Jour was Apple and it was really good. The Crème Brûlée, had a good crust on it and was creamy smooth inside. Both dishes were very good.
Our table was a round booth in a cozy dining room with intimate lighting. The service was as good as the food, making it a very enjoyable evening, especially with my dining companions.
French food in London? This meal was actually better than most of the meals I had in Paris! Bravo! read more
