I had the chance to visit Albert Lea's newest store today…read more I have to say that I am excited to see a retailer of this caliber come to our area. The brand new store was clean and well organized. There were a wide variety of brand named tools and farming supplies available. Other local retailers will need to step up their game if they want to compete.

Bomgaars has a nice store but I have big issues with this place…read more 1. Many items not marked with prices! I asked at the checkout why I cannot find prices. The employee at the register said they are bad at it. 2. They stopped stocking the chicken Science Diet cat food. I bought it by the case. When I do find it on the shelf, there are only 1 - 2 cans and they are all dented. The last one I opened was all moldy. I changed brands and shop somewhere else for it now. 3. The garden plants outside are not watered and they are fried to a crisp. 4. The female employee that runs the first register. I am usually at Bomgaars 10 times a month. I go to the register to check out. Not once have I been able to check out in her lane. She tells me to go to the other lane every time! So I have to pick everything up and move. 5. The candy is hard and seems old. 6. I bought a bucket for the bucket sales at least 9 months ago and was told there are frequent bucket sales. I haven't seen my first one yet! 7. This store caters to men. I cannot find a woman's shoe/boot area! Only men's and kids. Wives do most of their family's shopping. Your store has seemed to have forgotten that! I'm done shopping at Bomgaars.

Back in the day I used to work at Herbergers (at Southdale). When Herbergers left and Von Maur…read morestores started popping up I kind of refused to shop here because I felt like it would give me the same vibes as Herbergers... and it does minus the sales that Herbergers had. For sure feel like it's catered to the older crowd. We parked at Von Maur to cut through to the mall. A few things did catch my eye while passing so we ended up looking around a bit. I did find an item to purchase and walked a bit to find a pay station. When I walked up a customer and the cashier were deep into conversation about vacation and even with me waiting they carried on for 5 or so minutes after the fact. I ended up sitting in the chairs nearby to wait. I can say when they finally wrapped their conversation the cashier wasn't as friendly which made me think maybe I shouldn't purchase from them. There was no "thank you for your patience or waiting", "did you find everything okay" or anything. Overall the store is pretty neat and organized. Not a ton of staff around but also never seen a lot of people shopping either. Items seem to be good quality.

I wanted to grab some lunch at the food court and bring it back to my hotel room. I parked by Von Maur and cut through the store to get to the food court. When I lived in Minnesota, huge department stores were popular. Macy's. Dayton's. Sears. Nordstrom. Neiman Marcus. Dayton's was Minnesota-based. It died, similar to Sears. It was my first time stepping foot in a Von Maur store. It felt like walking into an old Eaton's or Simpsons store when I was a kid. There was a lot to see. It felt comfortable. There was excitement. The first store that the von Maur family opened was in the late 1800's in Davenport, IA. It has since expanded to fifteen states. Its headquarters are still in Davenport. I had no idea. I have actually been to Davenport! This store had a wide variety of brand-name merchandise. I saw popular brands, such as Tommy HIlfiger and Anne Klein. There were many brands that I had never heard of, such as Lyssé, AGB, and Ruby Rd for women's clothing. I am such an outlet, discount shopper. It was nice checking out a classy department store, to change things up. I felt comfortable. Staff were super friendly and non-judgmental. They smiled and said hi. The best part was hearing a pianist in the lobby play songs at noon. It was so cheerful and refreshing as I browsed and moved. I loved it. There were escalators and elevators to get to to various floors of this large department store. It was clean and inviting. I will need to return when I'm not looking for lunch to shop here. I loved what I saw and I look forward to returning. (415)

I am reviewing Miracle Mile Shopping Center for sentimental reasons. I recently dined at Denny's…read morenext door to this plaza. Although it deems itself as the oldest shopping centre in Rochester, it's really a plaza. It was established in 1952 and there was a major fire in 1971. I'm happy to report that these events were both well before my time! I dropped by this plaza a handful of times as a resident of Rochester. There used to be a gift shop that sold Midwest of Cannon Falls s'mores characters. I bought a few of these characters as Christmas ornaments and a larger one that was a lamp. They are still with me to this day, but this company folded, as did this gift shop. Cannon Falls is maybe a twenty-minute drive northwest of Rochester. I don't recognize that town since I moved away. It's the same about Miracle Mile. Hom Furniture is one of two businesses that rings a bell. There's a new grocery store called Fresh Thyme Market. I exited Highway 52 and you can't miss this supermarket's large sign from it. I'd estimate that there are roughly thirty businesses in this plaza. Olmsted Medical Center is still kicking around, which is the other place that has endured. This plaza is perfect for folks who live close by and don't want the bustling feel of being downtown. This shopping plaza is roughly two blocks away from the Mayo Clinic's St. Mary's Campus. There is plenty of parking at Miracle Mile. I'll need to check this plaza out more closely when I'm back again and it's not my final full day in Minnesota, especially Fresh Thyme Market. It was quite the flashback heading over here. So much change here. Even the Hardee's across the street is gone! (47)

Check out its website for a list of all the stores and services it offers/boasts! http://www.miraclemilerochester.com/mm_002.htm It is also so conveniently located right off of the highway and acts as a frontage road between 2nd St SW & Civic Center drive! :-) I am so glad I had free time to check out the stores last weekend instead of just assuming it was a deserted strip mall! BEST toy store ever! Fabulous 2nd hand shop! Great home decor/gift shop! Medical offices, cleaners, a bakery, a hardware store, a restaurant, a liquor store. It has it all!
