I just finished reading all the reviews and while most of them were positive and well deserved, a…read morecouple of things stood out that I think deserve some comment. Before I get to them I want to jump on the bandwagon and say Rob and Jannette (the owners) are some of my favorite people now. I park my car in the garage across the street from them and feel a gravitational pull to the market every time I park. I sometimes go in there with no need and no idea why I'm going in and walk out with something special. Now to the complaints (which were few but shouldn't go unchallenged). First, some complained that the prices are high. That's true, as well as inevitable at such a small scale. I know the owners aren't becoming rich via this venture. If you're the type of person that only considers prices when forming a value statement, you might be better off going to BJ's. For me, value is a complex calculation that doesn't actually result in something that you can put a dollar sign in front of. I live in the neighborhood so convenience is a factor. The selection, in particular the beer and wine choices, is something that I literally can't find at any other grocery store nearby, thanks to the invisible Puritans in my state that voted down a referendum to allow grocery stores to sell beer and wine. Much of what's available is sourced locally. More important than those, and something that I saw in many reviews, is the wonderful relationship I have with the owners. I can't even walk past the place without a friendly wave from them. They know their products and are happy to answer questions about them. And they know me. They know I try to only eat vegan foods, their amazing Muffaletta sandwich being a notable exception. They know I'm allergic to chocolate. As a regular customer, I get special treatment from them. Try THAT at Market Basket! Just this morning, I ran out of turmeric and ran to the market. They didn't have it on the shelf, but they had it in the kitchen. Rob got me what I needed and refused to take my money. What's something like that worth to you? I also saw some people complain that the produce can be on the edge of spoilage. I can't deny that there have been times when I purchased things only to have them inedible the next day. I understand that this is just normal for a small, owner-operated grocery store with moderate turnover and minimal staff. But instead of writing them off, I alert them when I think something in the display fridge should be removed. Also, I don't stock my refrigerator from MSM. I buy what I need when I'm going to use it and inspect it before putting it my shopping basket. In other words, I don't attempt to treat them like a tiny Hannaford. I treat them like an amazing pantry, which is easy for me since they're in the neighborhood. Before the MSM opened the city conducted a survey among downtown residents that attempted to figure out what types of businesses people would most like to have appear in the neighborhood. A small grocer was at the top of most resident's preferences. I'd like to remind people that now that we have one, we'd better use it... or we'll lose it. I'd also add that whatever problems may exist at MSM, they'll only get better if we reach out to them the way they've reached out to us.

Market Street Market is the only locally-owned grocery store as of the time of writing this. The…read moreowner of the store also owns the building, and he is as friendly and helpful as anyone could ask for. The market carries a nice assortment of fruits and veggies (mostly local), deli meat & cheese, pastas, sauces, breads, coffees, etc. They have a great MA-roasted coffee that is excellent, and you can even get fresh-squeezed OJ by the glass - there's a fancy contraption that allows you to watch the process - or you can get watermelon by the slice. Perfect for those hot summer evenings. There are some muffins and pastries if you need a quick snack, frozen foods, and a decent selection of laundry soaps (like method) and other household necessities. In short, pretty much anything (basic) you'd need to run your home, especially if you already eat out several nights a week. They're open 8am - 8pm. Also, since it's a smaller store, I'm assuming that the owners will stock anything you ask for if there is a growing demand for it. They seem pretty flexible and are definitely open to opinions and feedback on how to make store as good as they possibly can. So why didn't I give it 5 stars? Well, it is pretty small, so there's no way they can stock EVERYthing that I need, which means I'll still probably have to go to a larger store for some things. That and the prices have to be a little higher because they get such small quantities. Otherwise, I'm a fan. I'll try to get at least a few items there every week just to keep them in business, because it's something that was sorely missing from the downtown Lowell area. Stop by and check them out! Tell 'em Jen + Tommy sent you :)

We went to pick blueberries this summer. The rows of bushes were extremely neat and well pruned,…read moreand bursting with berries.People were directed to different rows in an orderly fashion by the nice young staff so that we were never on top of one another. The berries were delicious and perfectly ripe. I kept mine in the fridge at home and they lasted a month for fruit cups and cottage cheese lunches. They tasted so much better than even the best supermarket berries. We bought corn at the farm stand that was very fresh and sweet. Visiting the newborn goats was charming. It was fun to watch the young visitors feed them. This is a great place for pick your own fruit and prices are reasonable as well.

This is not my first time blueberry picking, so I know what to look for and how to pick berries. The area is fairly short - meaning the netting to keep the birds out is very low. If you're tall, you're going to be dragging the netting through your hair or killing your back from crouching. Bushes are not trimmed and maintained well. However, the height of the berries are perfect for children to be able to pick their own. After crouching for a while and leaving with 4 lbs of berries, we were happy with our haul. However, after coming home and washing them to prepare for storage and eating, the nightmare began. Nearly all the berries have small white bugs on them. No biggie, fairly easy to wash and scrub. However, when worms and grubs starting to come out of the berries, I knew that this was not a great picking place. Their blueberries looked great, but clearly they're dealing with bug issues that will kill their crops and customer base. Wasted money down the drain, but better than eating bug infested fruits. It's a bummer as I've picked fruits at their Tyngsboro location with no issues. But I'd steer clear on this location and drive further to go up to Tyngsboro.

I had a blast enjoying some fall fun at Parlee Farms! Tyngsboro is about 45 minutes outside…read moreBoston. They have nice grassy lots for people to park at. I think arriving around 10am allows you to nab a good spot close to the farm itself. There was already lots of folks around by 10am on Saturday. The main farm area has food options, including hot cider and apple cider donuts. The donuts are so good in the morning, I think they are super fresh and warm but get a little less fresh by the afternoon. There is also corn on the cob and hamburgers, etc. Later in the afternoon, this area also had some great live music, and a petting zoo area with cute goats. We were eager to get to apple picking. You can buy a bag for holding the fruits of your harvest; the options are half bushel and peck. We went with a half bushel, which ended up being great for three people. We then rode the hayride to the orchards, which was a very quick ride. They have tons of different varieties at the orchards, including Cortlands, McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Cosmic crisp, Shizuka, Empires, and Granny Smiths. My friend was especially excited by the Jonagolds. The hayride also takes you back to the main farm area, where there are lots of options for activities to enjoy. We could take pics in the pumpkin patch or go pick flowers. The flower patch had zinnias, gorgeous dahlias, gladiolus, and Irises that haven't bloomed yet. It was super gorgeous. You can purchase flowers by the pound or by the bouquet; pound is the cheaper option for sure, so I do recommend doing this. The line for checkout got really long by the afternoon and then we had to line up again with our bucket of flowers to get them wrapped in butcher paper.

Their barn items are insanely cheap for fresh bakery goods in this economy, and their fruit picking prices are fair. I haven't ever had a bad experience with service, and the ambiance is all wooden, cool, and overall just a great experience. It's literally THE place to go for a family trip or something fun to do.

It was ok but I think it's just not my thing. It was good but I had to drink a lot to get it down. It was a sweet donut but no difference than a regular donut anywhere else so I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. I didn't go to the orchard and it seemed like most of the other visitors were going to visit it. Ambiance was really nice though. It would've been nice to sit down there with a cup of coffee with the donuts which I was told was common at other orchards. I just picked one closest to me which happened to be Dave's. It was a nice pretty place though. No complaints here.

I have been purchasing their amazing scones and biscuits for quite awhile. I recently discovered their focaccia. The onion focaccia is beyond amazing. JUST TRY IT. Next, I purchased one of their frozen chicken pies, which I am eating right now. Soooooo good. There actually is a lot of peas and carrots, great sauce and WONDERFUL crust. No fake after taste. If you get SNAP benefits, they do HIP, which means you can purchase $40.00 a month on your card and get it put right back on. Such a help for me being a very, very low income senior citizen. The people that work there are really nice as well. Go to Farmer Dave's in Tewksbury, you will not be dissapointed.
