Asked a mate of mine - a Swindon local - if he could recommend any decent restaurants in the town. He mentioned amongst the few that for a good curry I should try the Bombay Lounge over in Peatmoor Village centre.
So for a change from the mid week pub dinner me and the wife headed over.
Have to admit most curry houses these days seem to just heat up the curry mix and throw in tough old chicken and serve you poppadoms at extortionate prices so I was in the mindset this would be the same.
Have to admit I would go back.
We were asked to wait when we got in but whilst we did we were given free apertifs - a first in an Indian restaurant for me outside of Bristol.
The starter was ok, a little more would have been nice but we didn't feel cheated.
The main I had chicken tikka madras and my wife had chicken tikka massala. Both dishes had tender chicken which came as a surprise, most curry houses I find seem to serve the toughest meat possible in the hope the heat from a curry will hide its poor quality.
The sag aloo I had seemed fresh but not sure if it had come in a tub or freshly made but I'd say more the latter to be honest.
The staff were friendly without being bothersome and I'd go back.
We paid £40 overall which was ok as we did order quite a bit plus 2 sets of drinks.
To round it off they did give us 2 baileys at no extra charge which I thought was a nice gesture. read more
