What an amazing lunch my wife and I had today at Bombay Grill. We were there for a lunch event and boy are we glad we went. Let's start with my favorite, the butter chicken. The chicken was super tender. The sauce was exceptionally flavorful and the spice level was mild enough to not fry your tastebuds. There were so many delicious dishes (tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, vegetable curry, lamb and so much more) which is not surprising considering the award winning chef. Hasan, the Manager / owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to let us know the history of the dishes we were eating and his family's journey that brought them (thank God) to the treasure valley. This place is a treasure in the Boise area and should not be missed whether you are ordering a phenomenal takeout, having a spectacular lunch or grabbing a one of a kind dinner. This is my local Indian place and I really want to like it more. It is ok. I would probably give it 3.8 stars. Pros: * They have a nice and popular lunch buffet (which comes with personal fresh naan) * The Naan is decent * The Tikka Masala has a nice flavor * Portions are large * Food comes out fast * They are open on Sundays Cons: * Service can be scattered... sometimes it is good, sometimes inconsistent depending on how busy it is * Music can be a bit loud / high energy * Last few times I was there, I had a lazy fly circling my table * The rice doesn't taste that good... rice is so cheap, so the owners should upgrade to a better basmati for a quick boost in quality * If you want something with any heat, you have to order Indian spicy/hot (as the regular "Spicy" tastes more like medium. I have never ordered above this though so I am worried it might jump to being too hot. * Some of the dishes I find favorable (especially the cream ones, but some of them are a bit bland (like the Vindaloo, Curries and Rogan Josh). They are still enjoyable, but if I order a Vindaloo I want it to pop. Overall, a solid place for dine in or takeout. Was invited with my husband to a Yelp Elite lunch at the Bombay Grill. It was buffet style, which was great, because not knowing Indian food very well, I got to try so many different items. The Butter Chicken was so good and melted in your mouth. Also had a couple different rices, and all the sauces were great on on them. Creamed spinach with a little spice was good too. I couldn't stay away from this place. I enjoyed the veggie biriyani, butter chicken and tea so much last week that I had to come again. I dragged my daughter here for lunch today and I was excited to dig in! So in my last review, I gave this joint 5 stars. I was taken by the tea and the food but in all honesty, I wanted to give this joint a 3. I wish the service was as good as the food. The only saving grace was the new server that was serving at the end. She gave me a nice to go cup for the tea when I asked and she was really sweet. She was so lost but she tried her best! Her co worker unfortunately wasn't as kind. The same gal that was rude last week was the same gal that sat us today. No real interaction really. She filled our waters and walked off. Since we were there last week, my daughter and I knew to help ourselves to the buffet. They had different items today which is nice! They had goat and lamb options. My daughter tried them and she said they were ok. We aren't big goat and lamb eaters but it was cool that she got to try it! I did notice some veggie options so I got to try them. I love the spices mixed with the potatoes and veggies. But again, my plate was filled with the veggie biriyani, veggie pakora and butter chicken. And now that I know about the tea, i had 3 cups of them bad boys! So worth going over the fluid restriction! The food was good as last week! I'm hooked on the rice, pakora and butter chicken combo. It's a winning plate! As much as I enjoyed food, service didn't match the food. theThe female server walked by us numerous times and filled other guests water. I finally decided to fill up my own water with pitchers that they have ready for guests by the buffet station. Aiden, the other server apologized for having to fill up my water myself. I told him about the female server walking by several times and not really had interest in serving us. Aiden did check up on us. It was nice that he stepped up to the plate. He got us another basket of naan. He also offered me a sample of mango lassee if I would leave him a review with his name in it. I appreciate Aiden and his kindness. He's the only reason why I'm giving this visit 3 stars. The female server has just left a foul taste in my mouth with my last 2 visits which is so sad. I think I'm going to hold off coming to this joint for a while. As much as I love the food, I'm not to happy about the service. Do I risk being unhappy with my server and being treated like garbage over butter chicken? Nahhh I'm worth a little more than that. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place. Best lunch buffet ever! It's always my first choice when I'm asked where I'd like to eat for my birthday, Mother's Day, any random day of the week... The food is excellent, the chef is very friendly, often coming out to say hello to guests, and the wait staff is attentive with bringing fresh naan, filling water glasses, clearing used plates. This was our first visit to Bombay. I like to place great Ambience wonderful location inside the Idanha hotel. Food is typical Indian food. I wish there was more choices like fish pakora which I love they didn't have it. OMG!! I travel around the country a lot and have had lots of Indian food. This is by far the best tasting Indian food I've had. I had the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The sauce isn't too creamy, it's a nice beautiful chunky like texture. Chef's kiss IMO. read more

We were so pleased upon trying this place for the first time. It is downtown Boise in an historic building and I didn't see any way for mobility-challenged visitors to get inside. They have a buffet lunch that is extremely popular. Plenty of delicious food choices, tea and Naan. We went back too many times to mention. The staff is cheerful. helpful and polite - something that is in short supply these days. We were presented with more Naan without having to ask and it is delicious. We were able to complete lunch before our 1 hour of free parking at the ParkBoi parking lot expired. That is a big plus for eating in Downtown Boise. Strongly recommend. read more

We love this place. Seems they may have trouble keeping staff; often different servers clearing dishes, etc. Food is excellent. One suggestion: when people are waiting to pay, and leave, put telephone callers on hold. This is a common issue amongst businesses and happens frequently everywhere. I love the buffet concept for Indian food. For people just trying out this type of cuisine, it gives them a good variety of things to try. The staff were super friendly and regularly turning out hot food. They bring fresh naan directly to your table and offer a chai tea station. I enjoyed the lamb curry. I was really excited to try Bombay Grill, but my experience was a letdown. The butter chicken arrived with shredded chicken and tasted more like Mexican food than anything remotely resembling authentic Indian cuisine. It completely missed the creamy, rich flavor I was expecting. The lamb curry wasn't any better, it was bland and lacked any of the warm spices or depth of flavor you'd expect from a curry. For the price and the hype, the dishes felt stripped of character and authenticity. I would totally recommend Spice Indian Cuisine in Meridian. It's 100x better for the same price. read more

I grew up on Boise but live out of state now. We come back every summer and always make a point to come here for lunch. The lunch buffet is the best in town, and may be the best Indian buffet I've had anywhere. Food is amazing, the occasional surprise dish, and service is friendly. Having chai, desserts, and chutneys included is a bonus, but the variety and quality of the main dishes alone is enough reason to visit. read more

However, we are here as I write this, and not only were we not brought naan (which normally arrives shortly after you're seated), we have even asked for it and haven't received it. So if you can't remember to take it to the tables, put it at the buffet please. Oh, it finally came when our plates were almost finished. I have eaten Indian food all over the US, from California to Maine AND in Europe (sadly, not in India yet). Indian is one of my favorite cuisines so I try restaurants everywhere along my travels. I am visiting Boise and decided to try the Bombay Grill lunch buffet. I can hands-down say that it is the best Indian buffet I've ever had, and I am a bit of a food snob in that I am very particular. Granted, a couple things I tried were just OK (still very good), but for the most part, everything was excellent. There were plenty of options for everyone. They have all the popular favorites, but include a nice variety of other things to try. It gave me a good idea of the quality of items on the menu...and this was just the buffet! The spice level was just right for a buffet too...nothing hot, but still perfectly spiced and flavorful. If I lived here I'd be a weekly customer at a minimum! Kudos to the staff, who allowed me to grab a plate at 1:55 when I got there (the buffet closes at 2), and then asked me if I wanted a refill before they removed everything. It was so good that I did grab a spare plate and shouldn't have because I was still eating at 2:30 when they closed and I couldn't eat another bite if I wanted to. I was looking forward to a delicious Indian meal. What I found was disappointing. The restaurant is a bit beat up around the edges. Chips and marks could be seen off the decor, a dark and old industrial carpet and tables that has seen better days. The server, however, was lovely and brought us our drinks and some papadums. She explained the dips that came with and I was excited. The papadums, however, were quite bland and not special at all. The. Our main courses arrived. The Butter Chicken was, for some reason, mostly shredded chicken and completely bland. I ordered medium spicy but this was without any notable flavors. We also had a lamb kebab. The sausages that came with were hard and tough and the flavor disappointing. We also had some garlic naan which was the highlight of the meal but only "ok".
