What had been normal customer service is no longer "allowed" due to management/policy. Little things: keeping the napkin dispenser stocked, fresh-brewed coffee at the ready. (The coffee was ever bit as good.) Little things add up to big things, and before long a business can be bypassed for something just as good but perhaps more convenient, or given up for something not quite as good but more convenient.
