We didn't rent a car so were depending on the bus initially. The stops had changed in North Boise so we had to walk about nine blocks to our AirBnB. The weather was nice and the neighborhood is very pleasant. We had dinner at the Hyde Park Pub, obviously a community favorite, and visited the toy store across the street. Although we didn't stop in Goody's ice cream and candy shop, we learned of its history from locals and would have loved one of their ice cream specials. We walked from 9th and Brumback to the Capitol Bldg. passing a charming grade school with quotations on the sidewalk just outside the entrance. A couple large churches had us pause, too. We had breakfast on 6th near the Capitol. The Capitol is beautiful and surprisingly open to the people EVERY day 7:00 am to 7:00 pm! School groups, a graduation, and a self-guided tour were fun in such a gorgeous setting. A friend picked us up for a great catch-up conversation and dropped us back at the Basque Block. We toured the museum and missed the Friday paella, but got some leftover vegan paella to take home for dinner. The bus is a super bargain Monday-Friday with an all day senior pass for $1.25! The downtown hub has friendly staff and we rode to an Albertsons to get some food essentials for the apartment. We walked over three miles each day. The buses don't go everywhere on Saturdays and Sundays, so we had Ben, a Lyft driver take us home. First time for us, but great service. Portland, OR suffers from graffiti and so many tents and garbage from the homeless. Not Boise--I didn't see a single tent, beggar, or garbage mound. The only graffiti was where spray paint murals reign in Freak Alley downtown. Would also recommend Mixed Greens, a gift store downtown and Moon's Kitchen Cafe for breakfast until 1:00 pm-ish. The airport is nice, too. You don't need to be there two hours ahead to catch your flight. Don't try to pass inspection with yogurt. Love you, Boise!!!

Movies, an arena, ballet, zoo, opera, library, museums, parks ... The depot is at one end of downtown while the state capital is at the other. The 8th Ave pedestrian block passes through the Grove or hub of activity. The 100 yrs old buildings have been elegantly gentrified. This small city is clean, safe & quiet.

The market runs from April-December every Saturday 9:30 am- 1:30 pm. The Grove Plaza is neighbored by the Boise Centre, ICCU Arena, and the BSU downtown campus. I live nearby, so I usually walk but there is both street parking and public garage parking nearby. Here you can find local produce (although, limited if you come later in the day), locally raised meats and fish, ceramics and other handmade products, and ready-made foods. I usually grab a mixed greens salad for $5, which lasts me the whole week. Something about these greens, they do last forever! I had a friend pick me up a bag while I was out of town (yes, I'm that addicted to this salad mix) and he actually bought twice as much as I usually do and they were still nice a crisp 1-2 weeks later! The microgreens here are great, and I love that you can get a mix of different microgreens in one container. There are also a few vendors that sell foods to snack on while you're shopping. My go-to is to grab a cup of coffee that's locally roasted, there's a spot that does have dairy alternatives along with flavored syrups that I love. The dumplings with the spicy momo sauce are the highlight of my Saturdays whenever I come here. If you're in Boise on a Saturday in April-Dec the Capital City Market is the spot to be. Highly recommend it, it's a Boise gem! Never too crowded but still a great spot to people and dog watch (Yes, dogs are allowed at this market)!!

This USPS is open 7:30am-5:30pm Monday-Friday (and 10am-2pm on Saturday) and that is super…read moreconvenient. Just like at the DMV, you check a button and get a ticket with your number on it and then you'll hear "now serving number 143 and window number 3" (or whatever number and window you are). So, you don't have to wait in a line, you can hang back, or have a seat - they have a little bench with spots for about 3 people to sit - and just wait for your number to be called. If it's really busy, other staff will come out and see if there are people here just to pick up something, so that they don't have to wait as long with the people who are mailing or purchasing. The staff here is always polite and helpful, and they always have the most current stamps to choose from. They have let me flip through the binder to see what they have and if they are out at that stand, they'll ask the other stands if they have x stamp there that I am looking for. I usually come in with a ton of mail or packages that need to be weighed and stamped and I have never been rushed or felt like it bothered the USPS worker. They always take their time to give me my mailing options and make sure that I'm all taken care of. Send more real mail!

I was looking forward to the family reunion and to visit Scotland and Ireland. I went to the Boise post office to apply for it. Didn't know you needed an appointment bc the internet said walk-ins are ok, but appointments recommended Tues-Fri. Monday totally open for walk-ins. Long story short, dude at Boise .. ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE human being! Ugh just not a nice guy. Only thing nice that he did was recommend other places to go bc the earliest I could have gotten an appointment was too late for when I was supposed to travel. He mentioned Star City Hall: I checked online... tons of available appointments. I got a few weeks ago and Stephani (I believe was her name) seriously... NIGHT AND DAY compared to the miserable human at Boise post office. Omg she was SO NICE! I know a lot of these people who work in DMVs, city halls, you know..government jobs have a bad reputation...and with good reason. They're never nice lol. Then you come across someone like Stephani (and I'm pretty sure that's how she spells it hmm) and it's just so wonderful bc you're handing over important stuff to them...like your original birth certificate that they take during the process of getting the passport. So going to her, I felt so much more comfortable doing that vs that twt at Boise post office. He was just ... mean. Wish we had more people like her at Star City Hall. Again, just the nicest person! City Hall there is super nice. So small and so homey. Star hasn't been totally taken over (yet) by transplants. Still has a small town feel to it. I take my little man, Alfie, over there too for his grooming. Star is just a nice place. Crazy to see the growth tho after many years of driving over there. Sorry, that's off topic. I hate to send more traffic to Star lol, but if I can avoid Boise for anything like this and can get it done over there, I absolutely will. Just a 20 min drive for me anyway. With traffic, takes me over 30 mins to get to downtown Boise and I don't live THAT far from downtown. So even if my European holiday doesn't happen, I am BEYOND happy I decided to go here and had her be the one who helped me. Made the experience all the better! No long lines to get in or for concessions. The only long line was for the bathroom at intermission, but that moved quickly. I don't think you can pick a bad seat here, as it's a small theater. Prices for the tickets were extremely reasonable. The concessions weren't very exciting, but they did have Dip n' Dots!! I would recommend seeing a show here if you are visiting or live in the area!

It's winter and I love it. Can't imagine what it's like in the spring when the trees leaf out and the streams are flowing.

Management refuses to fix our AC. They've made pathetic attempts to do the bare minimum. They…read morecalled HVAC, guy came out, set the thermostat and said 'be back in a bit' and never came back. The apartment I'm living in is 80°. Attempting to turn the AC on turns it up to 85° if left on long enough. We've called for maintenance every day for the past 2 weeks. Now, we're being told "every time I stop by the AC is working. If your rooms are reaching 90, during the day spend time in the livingroom until your rooms cool down at night." Previously, they provided us with a portable AC unit which was set up in the living room. Today, we tried setting it up in my brother's room in hopes that it would reach the other 2 rooms well enough. Not only did it not, but it flipped the breaker. Probably because my mom is on oxygen, and the added load from the portable AC was too much for it. So the breaker flipped, turning my mom's oxygen tank off. We told them as much, and they don't care. Just reply with "it was working when I came by." The level of either incompetence, or unwillingness to do their job is astounding. This is just the nail in the coffin. We've lived here for 10 years, and the amount of things I could add is overwhelming. Even if you're desperate, keep looking.
