I have severe dental trauma from issues I had as a kid. He would laugh at that. If I went more than 6 months he would scold me like a child. He was rude to my kids and made them feel uncomfortable. The hygienist were find, but never the same ones. The turnover is high, which suggests he's not a good employer. The final straw was when he diagnosed by daughter with 2 cavities. We made to separate appointments to have the filled. The first one they had to change because he overbooked. When we went to the rescheduled appointment he scolded my daughter for canceling. When we went to the next appoint a week later (after a reminder call), the office was dark and locked. We found a new dentist. My family has a history of weak enamel; because these were my daughter's first two cavities (she 18) we thought she had avoided that same fate. She did x-rays and found that not only was the one filling incomplete, but she had 12 other cavities that he never diagnosed even with recent x-rays and there is no way all those cavities developed in a matter of months. When I called them to let them know we would no longer be going, they sent us a huge bill with no insurance applied, now I'm fighting that. They just are lousy.

Since it is difficult to get her to a dentist, we were worried about what we were going to do. We were so lucky to be referred to Dr. Selmer. He called ahead to let us know when he would be there. He arrived with all of his sterile wrapped dental instruments, assessed my mothers situation, explained everything he was going to do to her, and removed the teeth, all while she laid in her recliner. He was kind, gentle, compassionate and very professional. I cannot say enough about how pleasant and easy the whole process was. We were nervous, but he quickly put our mind at ease. I highly recommend Dr. Selmer to anyone who has a loved one that can't get out to go to the dentist.

At the end of the appointment I was given an idolize bill of what my treatment will cost and potentially how much my insurance would pay for. I ended up going to "Infinity Smile Dental" located in South Holland. Not only is Infinity Smiles office clean, their staff is extremely nice, its equipment is extremely up-to-date and My treatment was at a little over $1,000 less than what A-Z was about to charge for the same braces treatment.

UPDATE - September 11, 2026…read more I originally left a positive review for this dental office because, at the time, that genuinely reflected my experience. Dr. Gruba helped me improve my gum health and the overall health of my teeth. I have extremely sensitive teeth and a small mouth, and I appreciated his patience with me. He would explain what he was doing before working on my mouth and even ordered smaller tools to better accommodate me. Those are things I still appreciate and will not take away from him. However, my experience changed as I continued receiving dental work. In June 2025, I actually wrote an entire second review detailing several negative experiences I had begun having with the office, but I ultimately chose not to post it. At that point, I was seriously considering discontinuing my care here. One of my biggest concerns was repeated miscommunication with the front desk regarding my appointments and pricing. I pay for my dental services out of pocket and do not use dental insurance, so knowing exactly what I am being charged and receiving accurate information is extremely important to me. There were enough issues with communication that I eventually expressed my concerns directly to Dr. Gruba. I also began experiencing problems with my fillings. There were occasions where I would have dental work completed and then have to return shortly afterward because a filling had come out. This became extremely frustrating because I had to rearrange my schedule and, at times, miss work to return to the office for something that had just been done. I eventually told Dr. Gruba that I did not want to continue scheduling dental work back-to-back because I felt like too much was being done too quickly. I wanted more time between appointments to make sure the work that had already been completed was actually holding up before moving on to more teeth. After I expressed those concerns, I stopped experiencing fillings coming out. Despite everything, I continued going to this office. A major reason is because I had already invested a significant amount of money into my teeth, all out of pocket. Walking away from an office after investing that much money into my dental care was not a simple decision. I continued hoping that the problems had been addressed and that the work I was paying for would last. Unfortunately, what happened today is why I finally feel the need to update my review. On September 11, 2026, my gold cap completely came off while I was eating waffles. I was not chewing ice, eating hard candy, or eating anything that I would reasonably expect to cause a cap to come off. I was eating waffles. What makes this even more upsetting is that this gold cap is not even two years old. To the best of my recollection, I have had it for approximately a year and a half, and even that estimate is being generous. I specifically paid for a gold cap, out of pocket, and now I am holding it in my hand after it came off while eating something as soft as waffles. Given my previous experiences with fillings coming out, it is very difficult for me to look at this as an isolated incident. I documented concerns about dental work not lasting as far back as June 2025. I chose not to publish that review at the time. I continued being a patient. I continued spending my money here. I continued giving the office an opportunity to correct the issues because I had already invested so much into my dental care. I want to be fair because my experience here has not been entirely negative. There are things Dr. Gruba has done for my dental health that I genuinely appreciate, which is exactly why my original review was positive and why I continued returning despite the problems. But acknowledging the good does not mean I should ignore the problems I have experienced. At this point, I am extremely disappointed. Took my daughter here for cleaning and exam. With Covid we havent been for a little over a year…read more She went from no cavities last time to SIX. I took her to a family friend who is a dentist. (unfortunately his office does not accept her insurance) for a second opinion. He wrote down his findings and told me what he saw. I take his recommendations to her appointment with me today and the dentist seemed upset that I actually took her for a second opinion. She would not even look at what he had recommended. She said that she too went to dental school and it didn't matter to her. She was very vague about what exactly my daughter needed done and would not go into details with me. She made me seem like i was a jerk for getting a second opinion regarding my daughters health. We finally agreed that she would fill the one cavity. She put the q- tip with the gel on it for literally 5 seconds before injecting my daughter. I know from experience they let that sit on the gums a few minutes before the injection to give it time to numb the area. After the filling of the tooth you would think the Doctor would talk to me but no. The assistant came to tell me that the tooth might require a root canal. He said they will look at it next time she comes back. There will not be a next time.
