But, we ordered and then waited....the food came 50 minutes later, with the lesson just about to start. We had also mentioned we were there to dance. When we asked if we could maybe move inside so our guests could see the lesson before dancing, they instead offered to put the food under lamps. We opted to eat it as we had waited so long for it. Before my meal had come I had finished my water, but the waitress was nowhere to be found to bring more water. When she finally did show and we asked for more, she seemed annoyed and brought two pitchers to leave with the table. The food itself was ok. I tried my girlfriend's dish and it was admittedly pretty good, while mine was just ok. That could be a personal preference thing. Given the poor service, prices, and the fact that regardless of service, they automatically charge all tables 20% gratuity, I don't think we'll be eating there again.

The treats included the raclette sandwich, bacon lollipop, German potato pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer), Brauhaus pretzel, German bratwurst, schnitzel, gingerbread cookies, baked goods. The process for picking up food orders could be improved upon. Told to come back in 20 minutes and came back but the server appeared confused when we told him our order, then said wasn't ready yet, saw other people who ordered after us get their orders, and eventually after a couple more inquiries received our order. A pager system or a number/now serving screen would be useful way to communicate ready orders. Took home a cute collector mug and got to drink my tasty mulled cider from it while there. If I had decided to get another drink, it would be $1 less for subsequent fills. It was entertaining to watch the costumed characters tease the children and guests and the various performers cross the stage. There were a couple of artisan stalls to peruse as well. New Chef. New Menu. New Concept. Time to update. We went to Up Cellar last night after an…read moreexhausting couple of days. We had a spectacular dinner at the hands of the new chef, Nicholas Murray. His concept is that starters and salads are meant to be shared. With the proteins, maybe not, although each was ample and could have been shared. We started with the Ahi Tuna Toast, Ahi Tuna on toast with heirloom tomatoes and fennel on a piece of sourdough toast. That was an excellent start to our dinner. Our other starter was a Stracciatella, orange supreme, candied pistachios, basil and olive oil panino. This, we thought, was an outstanding dish. Neither filled us so that we could not go on. We then moved to a caprese salad - unlike any caprese we had ever had. Again, heirloom tomatoes, pieces of mozzarella, pangrattato (a traditional Italian condiment made from breadcrumbs toasted in olive oil with garlic and herbs) basil and mixture of balsamic and soy. So delicious. From here, my spouse and I diverged. She ordered the half chicken. Chef Thomas Keller (famous for The French Laundry) believes that a properly roasted bird is a definitive benchmark for professional capability. The reason is because there is no place to hide. Achieving crispy golden skin with completely succulent, non-dry meat requires precise control over heat and timing. Chicken easily dries out and turns bland. My spouse's chicken WAS PERFECT! The skin was crispy but the meat was succulent, even the breast! Clearly, Chef Nick has mastered this deceptively simple dish. It was likely the best chicken we have had in a restaurant (or home). I ordered the trout (a butterflied rainbow trout) served over a white bean puree, butter beans and with an optional salsa verde. I opted against the salsa verde because the trout did not need it. Finally, a word about the desserts. I ordered something called "Liquid Nutella" served with a hazelnut crisp and an in-house vanilla gelato. Oh my. This dish was decadent and resembled most a molten lava chocolate cake. I am not ashamed to say that except for tastes I graciously gave my spouse, I at the whole thing! Chef Nick also urged that we try his key lime pie. We did, but given my predilection to hazelnuts and chocolate, the Liquid Nutella was my winner. Chef Nick has spent the last 20 or so years away from Indianapolis and its environs honing his skills at Beaker & Gray in Miami and Eleven Madison Park in NYC among other places. We are glad he has decided to come back home.

There is no transparency for room rates here and this gives a business an opportunity to swindle you. I originally had a party of 10 people and confirmed a reservation 2 weeks ahead of the time reserved. I was told to pay $100 deposit in addition to the $100/hr rate for the room. There is no clarity if that deposit can be refunded or what the policy is on the website or readily available to customers when they are on site. I discovered that this deposit is non-refundable, which is unfortunate that I had to eat that cost. Unfortunately, my party of 10 went down to a party of 6 due to funerals, COVID, and other uncontrollable circumstances. I tried calling several times prior to the reservation (Sunday and Wednesday before the Saturday reserved time) I was told on my final call speaking with the manager that since the group had reduced to 6 people they could put us at $50/hr in the small room. However, when I showed up, I was told that we were still in the $80/hr and there was no changing that. Also, we had a lot of technical difficulties. Wireless microphone receivers were not charged, so we kept getting disconnected. We had to change mics 3x when we were there. The employees were doing their best and were as accommodating as they could be, but ultimately the management is faulty. Transparency is important and this place does not have it. Also, I was not told tip was included. I usually tip 20% because times are tough and places don't pay their employees enough, but did not get an itemized receipt before this interaction. So I tipped an additional amount without knowing.

Albeit, I admit 11 ended up coming and I would've been totally fine with the $10 fee for additional people. After paying, we discovered they had charged a WHOPPING $120/hr (more than DOUBLE). When confronted, the front desk guy lied about showing me two rooms and that I requested the room for 15-18 people. That NEVER HAPPENED and I have 3 witnesses AND the security camera caught that. He even tried to threaten showing me the security footage like, please, prove me right actually. Also, my friend told me that the guy was insulting me the whole time when I wasn't talking to him on the phone, clearly because I was not there in person (he also just hung up on me during the discussion). Even during the refund process, when we were only trying to pay the real $55/hr rate, they STILL tried to haggle saying "fee this, fee that". There are so many things I could've gotten upset about, but literally all I cared about was the promised upon rate. Was I mad about the limited discography? No. Was I mad about the undisclosed gratuity? No. I merely wanted what we were rightfully owed. Simple as that. Then, to still try to negotiate out of paying us back PLUS being heavily insulted PLUS trying to threaten me?!? What is happening?!? Overall this was an exhausting experience during a time that was supposed to be one of celebration. This place operates DISHONESTLY and WITHOUT ANY RESPECT for customers.
