There was never a mentioned during the conversations, in which the cake was mentioned all 3 times, that there were charges per slice!! I have been charged a small fee for a cake cutting. It is not about the money; it is lack of transparency and rudeness. I had asked when I called if it was allowed to bring in a birthday cake, I was told "yes, it was fine". Nothing was said about a fee. When I called back two days later to change the number of our party, I again mentioned the cake. Again, nothing was mentioned about fees. A few hours later I was called to confirm 14 people and corrected the person calling as to the number of people and we would have attending. I repeated it would be 12 people at 4:30 complete with cake. I was told a desert would be provided and advised them that would not be needed as I had the cake. Third time nothing was said about any fees. On arrival I was told about the $6 per slice fee for the cake, when the hostess asked if we had been told. I told her no and we asked our first call and mentioned the cake twice more during subsequent calls. She immediately said she was getting the manager. Very evident this had happened before and she was not willing to deal with it. The man who identified himself as the manager told us, they sold desert and by me supplying the cake I was not allowing them to sell us their deserts. They had ample times instead of creating this situation to let me make the decision as to whether we brought our cake. I ordered the cake after I asked. This was simple, say no outside food or inform of the charge. The man who said he was the manager kept lecturing me and would not stop even after being told to stop. A rude woman, the wife, said all of this was on the website and menu. We had never looked at the menu or website. The manager offered us a drink which I declined and my husband, who does not drink, asked for water. An angry man dressed as a chef came out and asked if there was a problem. I explained we had mentioned the cake three times and never were told about the fee per slice. (no, fees were ever mentioned) He said this was like going to a gas station for gas then deciding to get and oil change and wanting it for free. He then told us to leave his restaurant and kicked us out! A woman who I later learned was his wife, claimed I had said they were "cheating" us. We never said any such thing, just questioned why we were not told about any extra charges, which was factual. Did I mention there was a wedding going on and she wanted to march us out through it while the couple was saying their vows. I did insist this was inappropriate and the wife finally relented and let us leave from another door. We were kicked out for pointing out bad business practices. My budget for this event was $1500.00+, their loss. My whole complaint was not being told about extra charges, not that they existed. They blew this up by not letting it go after the facts were stated. We often have large groups out for dinner. I have never had a restaurant not tell us about cutting fees or large group fees. Also, I have never been to a restaurant where staff or owners were this rude and nasty!
