Positive: Tod is a true empath and a very compassionate individual. He is down-to-earth and approachable. We had a meaningful conversation about meditation. The room we were in was beautifully decorated with eastern-style art, which created a peaceful atmosphere. Negative: I had clearly communicated before and during the massage that I prefer medium to strong pressure. Tod was reticent to apply any more pressure than light touching. This caused some frustration on my end, because the light touching amounted to what felt like the promise of massage without actual massage. The massage of chest, shoulders, and back was inadequate because of the lack of pressure. He did not attempt to massage either my hands or feet, which were missed opportunities in the full hour. I asked Tod during the session what kind of massage he prefers. He mentioned that he had gone to Thai massage salons in the area but found them to be too harsh and not attentive to his individual physical issues. This was a telling response: Tod's default approach is to be very gentle with others. However, that wasn't my starting point and Tod didn't seem able or willing to adapt to my preference for a firmer massage. Previously I have enjoyed dozens of massages in the style of Swedish, Thai, and Deep Tissue. If Tod has experience with and is capable of using these techniques, he did not demonstrate this in my massage experience. Because Tod is such a kind guy, it pains me to leave a less than stellar review. Pressure relieves pain, and because there was no pressure, it was not therapeutic for me. I recommend booking Tod to see for yourself how good this guy is. He has a unique style which goes deep, with zero pain. I could barely turn my head to the right, but after Tod worked on my neck, I had full mobility again. I've tried many many massage therapists all over San Francisco. Tod is hands down the best. Tod is fantastic. I've gone to him primarily to help with a frozen shoulder and he has done some amazing work on it. The first time I saw him my shoulder actually went from tons of pain with little mobility to being pain-free with a greater range of motion. In the subsequent times I've seen him his work has always helped expedite my healing process. As someone whose job is extremely physical (dance teacher) I've had a lot of injuries and consequently a lot of bodywork, physical therapy, acupuncture, chiro, etc., and Tod's work ranks up there with the best. I normally don't feel comfortable with male massage therapists either, but Tod is trustworthy and listens. I feel safe with him. Do yourself a favor and go get a treatment from Tod! read more

I like strong deep pressure and he is very good at that, but always is attentive and checks in to make sure I'm comfortable. I LOVE TOD. I've seen him and off for almost 10 years, starting when he worked at East West Integrative Medicine in Glen Park, and he just gets better and better. Now I go to his studio on Valencia. Sometimes I didn't go for a few years because its expensive. But he is the most gifted massaged therapist I've worked with. He understand anatomy well and how to heal injuries, as well as emotional/spiritual elements to pain and injury. A few weeks ago I could barely walk for about 4 days after a strain to my psoas, which was causing my back to go out of line from walking out of balance. After 90 minutes on his table, I felt a huge release of energy in the back and hips. The next day I could walk normally, and the day after that the injury was almost gone. It was like magic. I was in a car accident a few months ago and had a difficult time getting over the pain and tight muscles. My acupuncturists referred Tod, and he's great! He knows the body well and how to treat it. As a massage therapist my own self I am very aware and also critical of the services I receive. Tod is the best. He is knowledgeable, personable and highly skilled. I've had a number of physical injuries over the years and also live with chronic illness. Tod is excellent at targeting the muscle areas that are storing tension and then creating a treatment plan that works with your body to release the tension. Specifically, he has used muscle energy technique with the muscles in my neck and shoulder area where I've had two fractures. These muscles get over tired for me because of my work. Tod is an amazing massage therapist. I have never really enjoyed massage before, until I met him and experienced his work. He is gentle, intuitive, warm and really listens. His orthopedic massage has improved my mobility and decreased the pain. He focuses on the whole body and I leave each session feeling totally "centered." I have had massages all over the world. I have never found anyone else who has the healing power of Tod. When I fractured a vertebra, several years ago, Tod was the ONLY healer who was able to take the pain away. I had been to chiropractors, acupuncturists, holistic healers, my internal medicine doc (MD), a back surgeon. None of them were able to help, except to give me pain pills, or offer surgery. Tod started slowly, gently, and my body responded. I would be pain free for 3 full days after Tod's treatment. He gave me gentle exercises to help at home to stay as pain free as possible until the next treatment. when I'm on Tod's treatment table, my whole body responds to his healing energy, his gentleness, his sensitivity to my body's needs, and trust - the most important factor. I've been going to Tod for massage for a few years now. He is truly an exceptional healer, with wonderful skills, positive energy and presence. Tod is truly a master of his craft. I have had a lot of bodywork over the years and Tod is the one I trust with my complex issues. When I first came to see him I was in such pain I could hardly move. I basically said to Tod, "please help me but don't touch me." Most therapists I think would not know what to do with someone like me but not Tod.
