This test will change your life. I have been doing them for over 10 years. If you REALLY want to get in shape, you need information! Muscle weighs more than fat, right? Up until I did hydrostatic body-fat testing, I "knew" that to be true, but SEEING is BELIEVING! My body fat has been confirmed at around 23% to 25% by hundreds of tests. I'm an athlete in multiple sports, lots of Olympic athlete friends. These test results were bogus. 50% off. Parked out in front of a gym, they inflated the results drastically to get people to join the gym. Definitely a scam. Asked my personal trainer and my doctor, too. They agree. read more

From the fact that all the other reviews are 5stars, I'm going to assume that this is partly a scam. True, hydrostatic testing is the gold standard, and the people doing the test are very polite, and courteous, but I've been a chronic workout addict for a long time, summitted Mt. Shasta 3x in a row, beaten Olympians in official international competitions, work out at least 6 hours per week, have a VO2max of 45 and resting pulse of 54, so I know that the readings (which put me near "obese") are pretty questionable. I also test my bodyfat daily, and the numbers on OMRON and RenPho meters are 8% to 10% lower (30% to 50% by total), so I'm skeptical. My doctor says the numbers seemed extremely high and unlikely, too. I also asked my personal trainer, and he thought this company's results were quite ridiculously incorrect. The company has removed 3 prior attempts of mine to provide a review, AND even had my membership on Yelp CANCELLED (temporarily) for "violating terms and conditions" even though the review I posted was very polite, so I filed a legal complaint for fraud with the California Attorney General. Fact of the matter is that it is physically impossible for someone with body fat of 32.5% (their incorrect number) to have as high a VO2 max as I do, which I explained to them, but their limited knowledge of human physiology wouldn't allow them to correct themselves. My body fat measured today as 23.8% (on two different machines) which is where it has been for the past year. I measure myself daily on bioelectric impedance devices, which are much more accurate. Also, my waist to hip measurement ratio is about 0.95, which again is physically impossible for someone with 32.5% body fat. Just from a common sense perspective (think about it): a company that has mobile trucks that park in front of gyms to drive up business by giving fake high body-fat results has almost perfect 5 star reviews... then they remove the one review that was a 3 (now a 2) and even cancel the Yelp membership of the person that made the polite review. Realistic examples, instead: CalTech has been voted the top University in the world, yet gets 4.5 stars on Yelp. Vespertine has been voted top restaurant in Los Angeles but gets 4.5 stars on Yelp. Be suspicious of any company (especially with "mobile high-precision body fat measurement machines" that gets perfect 5 stars). It ain't real, folks! I didn't even see any certifications posted inside the truck. Machines like that need to be calibrated and tested regularly and there is a certification process. I know. I've worked in a lab. I know people over at National Institutes of Standards and Technology. High-precision 'measurement' machines being driven around in a truck is fairly ridiculous. Positive: Made me work out 2x as hard (literally!) at my next workout that afternoon. Could be dangerous, though, especially for extreme endurance athletes, since excessive working out can cause atrial fibrillation and "athlete's heart". Good motivator, but be careful and cautious. This kind of ignorant medical fraud is potentially a 'racket' and should be monitored carefully. Now they have been trying to contact me by phone, which is not welcome, and I request that they immediately stop. read more

This is a great way to know exactly what's going on with your body without wondering "are these readings off because I'm dehydrated or because I just woke up or because I just worked out?" I have a Body Composition Monitor that regularly calls me obese if I stand on it in the morning, and I was fed up. As a triathlete, I'm a huge fan of data, and this truck gives you exactly the information you need to know how much to eat and how little-- if you're trying to lose weight but maintain strength, it's utterly important to get your basal metabolic rate to ensure you won't lose muscle by cutting too many calories. The test gives you this, your lean muscle mass, and of course, the ever dreaded fat percentage, along with a comprehensive printout as to how you compare to others your age, and how much weight you "need" to lose to hit whatever target you're after. And unlike the Tanita scale you might use at home that gives you inconsistent reads, you KNOW this data is good. They dunk you several times until satisfied that you exhaled all the air and got the right reading. My one peeve would be that you have to hunt the truck down, which is totally not a big deal, though I do wish it were a little closer to my hood (it's not like you need to visit more than once every half year or whatever your schedule is). I also found it a little disturbing that the readout for the bodyfat percentages put "good" at what's generally in the underweight zone. I guess it's being targeted towards athletes, which I am, for whom underweight is okay and not unhealthy, but it's just sort of my pet peeve about LA and reinforcement of body dysmorphia that makes me sensitive to that kind of thing. Of course I'm the one who woke up at 6am to drive to a truck to find out my bodyfat, so I guess I shouldn't really complain... just sayin. read more

What an awesome experience! Linda (owner) was amazing from jump street. So welcoming, knowledgeable, and super easy to talk to. I have been using body fat test So Cal for a few years now. Well, five separate times at so different private training studio gyms. As the sole proprietor of a successful personal training Business it is very important I have a way to incentivize working hard for my clients and an accurate barometer to gauge their progress. Nothing works better than hydrostatic testing for making an accurate assessment of progress and revealing where clients need to continue to improve. A bad body fat test is actually quite confusing and counter productive to a clients needs.
