I love this studio! Found it thru a groupon, and am definitely going to extend. The staff are each extremely nice and knowledgeable, and I learn something new every time! (My back has never felt better!) The studio is clean and class sizes are perfect. I never feel lost in a crowd at this gym! I'm giving them 4 stars because they are a little out of the way for me, but otherwise, they deserve 5. :) read more

Bob is one of the best pilates instructors in NYC. I love his class.

I am a Physical Therapist and thankfully, just found Billy and his studio right around the corner from where I live. I practice yoga and Pilates and it is incorporated into my practice for my patients, but re-discovering Gyrotonics has been amazing both for myself and my clients. Billy goes over and beyond in his training of his clients. He is unbelievably detail oriented and helps them focus in the technique of the exercise (with excellent verbal and visual cues) which is crucial in attaining the maximal benefit of this type of movement exercise. I refer my patients to him post-rehab and would always recommend him. read more

I found Gyrotonic, while having no idea of anything about it, through Groupon actually. The Gyrotonic Tower looked like a medieval torture contraption at first and definitely scared me a little, but it made my body feel so good. Body Evolution was fabulous and I was lucky enough to work with Billy, the owner & master trainer, after my first class. He was and is absolutely incredible and I was sold on wanting to be a Gyrotonic instructor. I'm very very lucky that I had the opportunity to learn from Billy for he is definitely very passionate about the work and conveying it. I recommend Body Evolution to everyone who wants to know more about their body and to feel more open and free. read more

For me, this studio is perfect, i know that some people have been less than thrilled. I really love it, the location, the cleanliness, the fact that all the machines are in pristine condition, no one is really rude. Just very professional. The instruction and hands-on ness of the place is really very helpful to me. As a dancer, this is what I do to recover, and I find that their accomodations to my body are very dead on. I have taken most of my classes with Neena because I like her, but I've also had one on one instruction from Chie and loved it. She was so nice and helpful. I really like these guys alot, come check them out. read more

Besides that Billy Macagnone is one of my favorite people in the world, he is also the owner of the most beautiful movement studio I have ever stepped foot into. I have been in the fitness and movement industry for over 15 years and Billy's studio has the magic. Not only is the studio equipped with only the finest gyrotonic and pilates equipment, the place is also welcoming to anyone who is curious to take a peek. The front desk staff is always friendly and welcoming and Body Evolution has a wide array of certified and knowledgeable trainers that can be perfectly matched up with any clients needs. All levels are welcome. What makes Body Evolution so magical however is neither the equipment nor the experienced staff. It is the love that Billy has and shares for his work and the life of the studio. Body Evolution is the real deal, it is where anyone can learn to breathe and move in harmony with life's rhythm. I highly recommend it, go and let your breath be taken away, only to experience life with a whole new vision. read more

Billy is truly a master of understanding movement. And just as important, he knows how to guide you to find it in your own body. He helped me at my own pace, verbally cuing me and encouraging me to make all the discoveries myself. In other words, he didn't do the work for me, but allowed me to heal myself. It seems that he has developed a staff of highly trained, intuitive, and talented instructors. They are all devoted and passionate about their work. It's impossible to leave there without feeling like I'm walking on air (and about 6 inches taller). Billy's kindness and genuine smile is infectious! Every time I do Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis, it's like I've given myself a gift. I highly encourage everyone to go to Body Evolution. They know what they're doing and they really care about you. It's an oasis of peace in a pretty crazy city. read more

I love this place. I' m very happy I found this place on Groupon. I come from Fort Greene, Brooklyn 2x a week to workout with them.

The best pilates reformer workout I've had in a while, taught by Bob. The classes are nice and small (only 4 people) and he is very attentive about form adjustments and making sure new students are doing well. I also took the new-be Gyrotonic class with Chie (who is very good at explaining this exercise system), but I felt as if she didn't actually make a lot of hands-on adjustments (especially needed in a class with students who were not adept at the system). The studio is very clean and I love the amount of sunlight we get. Fun fact: one of the instructors (perhaps owner?) is the son of the owner of Sal Anthony's Movement Salon. Maybe that's why it sets such a high standard (although I have to admit that I liked Bob's class more than most of the classes I've taken at Movement Salong). read more

I just took my first newbie class, and had Silvia as an instructor.. she was very knowledgeable, gave corrections, and was very clear about instruction with the equipment... had a great experience and will certainly sign up for my beginner classes now... after one newbie class, I feel a difference and want to keep going! Studio and equipment all impeccably clean... employees in general are helpful, friendly and informative... read more

Love this no-nonsense, calm studio, which is smart to offer a wait list booking option. I enjoy the gyrotonics classes, finding them accessible as they offer a nice combination of movement and form. The open level Pilates classes are masterful, really addressing each of the maximum five students' needs. Bob is an amazing teacher, instructing us in a non-hectic, purposeful way. He is wonderful at moving a student's practice forward. Highly recommended. read more

Many people say that the East Village is the center of the cultural universe. I would add that Body Evolution, my favorite place on earth.. is the bomb! Once you enter this studio, you'll meet the most amazing people in NYC. This is where the masters of movement hang. Not only is it gorgeous to work out there, but you will learn so much by observing everyone teaching. Billy and all the teachers are fantastic! read more

In 2004 I had my first session with Billy. I Knew then I was going to be a Gyrotonic teacher. As a Physical Therapist I realized that Gyrotonic was a perfect combination in between fitnes and rehabilitation. Since then I have been so happy to work at Body Evolution and have the opportunity to help so many people feel better and function better. Gyrotonic prevents deformities. But better than all, gyrotonic opens you up, feels good as a massage and envigorating as a workout. Once we get the "traction" and decompression we start to build strength. We get strong as our spine reconnects with its natural freedom. And then we walk with elegance and learn how to place yourself without "locking" yourself in the "right posture". Billy is so devoted to this work and so devoted to the studio. We have a clean, open and bright space. You may become addicted to Gyrotonic. So, think before if you are ready to be the owner of a healthy spine! read more

"The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced." - Art Van Der Leeuw. This place is the tits. All the employees are friendly & accommodating. All of the trainers are certified & experienced. You receive advice from experts who are committed to this work & passionate about its benefits. They are dedicated to teaching & sharing with you. The classes are for all levels. I bought a lifebooker loot for 10 pilates classes & 10 gyrotonics classes. I've never done gyrotonics & now I appreciate it. They offer different levels of classes & variety of times throughout the week. It doesn't matter what shape or size you are -- when you arrive at the studio, it is their mission to make sure you are comfortable, you reach your goals & naturally that you feel taken care of throughout the process. They also offer in house package deals that are very reasonable as well. The studio is new, clean & always bumping. They have loyal customers & 1st timers always return. The classes are small enough that you get the attention you deserve & allows the instructors to help modify & correct positions so you get the most of your work out. I take Bob's pilates class the most & he's an excellent trainer. He always greets you personally & gives you a great work out. He shows variations of positions for difficulty so everyone gets the most out of his classes no matter what level you are. I love this place & now I am a loyal customer & will be going here for a while. Mind you I live in Long Island & work in NYC & this place makes it worthwhile to travel & stay after work & get this work out in. read more

What a great class. My first experience was with Kiki as the instructor and the way i felt after class--like I had gotten a massage and that my boday felt like a teenager!--that i decided to come weekly. Gyrotonics is both soothing and energizing at the same time, and Kiki is fun and supportive. I'm addicted. read more

Great studio very zen like. I have taken many group reformer classes and always feel challenged. Instructors are very welcoming!

Billy, the owner of this studio is one of the top Gyrotonic trainers who actually trains other teachers and certifies them. He is truly passionate about the work and lives it out in his own life and brings a ton of experience to the studio. If you are in NYC and haven't tried Gyrotonic, this is the place to try it, you will love every minute of it. read more

I found this beautiful Gyrotonic studio when I was planning a trip to NYC. My trainer here in San Diego knew Billy and encouraged me to try out Body Evolution. I took three classes with three trainers during my stay. All were excellent, though each brought an individual approach to the work. Billy, the owner, was there in the studio during two of my visits, teaching more advanced students one day and training with one of his top instructors on the other. I was impressed by how low-key and dedicated he and his team of trainers were. The overall atmosphere is peaceful, non-competitive and friendly. Various groups work independently and the energy is very positive--no divas (including Billy). It feels as if everyone is in it together, enjoying the challenge and the physical liberation that this expansive system offers. I am a movement professional and when I found Gyrotonic, I was hooked for life. I found a wonderful teacher at home and was absolutely thrilled to find such an excellent studio when I strayed from home. I recommend this studio without reservation. read more

I have been doing gyrotonics for about a year now and totally see a difference in my body especially my posture. Since I have job which consists of sitting at a desk most of the day, my posture was horrible. I was starting to feel like Quasimodo. Since going to my sessions with Neena at Body Evolution, I am standing straighter and taller. Everyone at the studio is friendly and helpful. Billy, Master Instructor and the owner, is always available to everyone if you have any questions or pains that you would like to address. He has a remedy! I highly recommend Body Evolution. read more

I had such a wonderful experience at Body Evolution doing a gyrotonic class. It was a great, safe, comfortable, and informative way to be reintroduced into the work. I'm an Olympic athlete and I really appreciated the visualization used and the understanding of the body. Allison was great! read more

I had passed by Body Evolution so many times and when I finally went in, Billy (the owner) was passionate and inspiring about his love for Gyrotonic. After my first private lesson, I left feeling like I had discovered something amazing. I came back three days in a row after that and on that third day signed up to get certified. I can't say the energy in the studio will inspire you to teach but it will inspire you to pursue gyrotonic to change your energy and your body. I absolutely love gyrotonic now thanks to billy and the studio is absolutely beautiful, calming and serene. The energy of the trainers and the passion in the studio is undeniable. read more

I would honestly have to say this is the best gyrotonic studio in NYC! I've attended several group and one on one classes at quite a few different studios around the city and this is no doubt the one for me! I have been training with owner and master trainer,Billy, for a little over a year and a half now and he's extremely enthusiastic about the work. You can tell right from the start that he absolutely loves his job and is eager to spread the word about the benefits of gyrotonic. The work itself is absolutely amazing! I have scoliosis and therefore was a little skeptical at first if it was going to be for me. The movements are invigorating and have helped my flexibility in my spine immensely. Now that I am practicing it regularly I feel better than ever! read more

oh my goodness! My experience was absolutely amazing!!! I was diagnosed with arthritis in the spine and pelvic area several years ago. I tried yoga and pilates but had limited results. But Gyrotonics/Gyrokensis is so beneficial for me. I felt relief after my first class. I am definitely going back to Body evolution. Neena, one of the instructors is so helpful and on point. She is patient and believes in the system benefits. Thank you Neena! I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience Gyrotonics!! read more

REVISED REVIEW: (originally gave 2 stars, now giving 4 stars) I originally wrote that the studio was impeccably clean and the equipment was top-notch, and that my issue was with the instructors. I hadn't yet found a single instructor who could give clear, effective instructions. The instructors I had did not help me or correct me and I was left confused, not learning anything or getting a good workout. I was incredibly frustrated and considered not going back and not using all the classes I had already purchased. It turns out, I just had a bad experience! I have since gone back and tried a few other teachers and they have turned out wonderful. They know how to give clear instruction and how to properly correct the movements. I won't list the awful instructors because that would be mean (they are all super nice people, but they just lack the gift of teaching ability), but I will tell you that the instructors Silvia and Pauline are excellent and you won't waste your money by taking classes with them! However, that being said, I think the studio should perhaps observe classes more often to make sure they have good instructors or else find a better way to screen their instructors (just because someone is nice or they know how to do gyrotonic or dance very well, doesn't mean they are a good teacher!), because you shouldn't have to waste time and money to be "looking" for good instructors. A 5-star studio will curate their instructors to ensure that all of them are good and you never waste your time or money on a class that is worthless. Now that I've figured out which teachers to take classes with, I am very pleased. Again, I cannot emphasize how immaculate, clean and updated this studio is. read more

Chie and Billy have been instrumental in my rehabilitation from a serious car accident resulting in three surgeries. I walk like Frankenstein and I am always in pain but since I started working out at the studio with Chie, my body is getting much more flexible and I now I believe that I can improve my life and body condition. Thank you to you both for your professionalism plus your positive outlook towards life. read more

I am so happy to have discovered Body Evolution. I originally found them through a Groupon for gyrotonic tower classes (which I fell in love with after the first class). I then bought a class package and have been attending Pilates reformer and gyrotonic classes regularly. The thing that stands out is the quality of the instructors. The instructors are all very well trained and very hands-on. The classes are small, but the instructors are so tuned in to their students that it feels as though you are attending a one-on-one session. I take Pilates at several different studios and, by far, Body Evolution classes are much more focused on technique and educating you about your body than most other classes. If you care about quality instruction and developing your technique, then head to Body Evolution and you won't be disappointed! read more

Not a fan of this studio. I just left feeling as though I should have been treated in a much better manor. I signed up for bob's Tuesday evening class at 7 pm around 5 pm and when I got to the studio 15 min early I checked In with the front desk all set to go. Minutes before the class, sitting on the reformer bob said I was not signed up for the class. It must have been an error on class passes sight and didn't go through to the studio. Instead of solving the issue, putting me in another class, asking me to come back to a later class they just kind of said, well if someone else shows up you have to leave. I felt as though there really wasn't a resolution or want to have my business or solve the issue. Meanwhile an empty reformer was sitting there being unused. If you're looking for a snarky 60 min of ab workouts this is your spot. Otherwise I'd do to any of the other thousands of studios in the city. Or better yet take a yoga class. They are certainly not on any high horses. Bad energy here beware. read more

I came here with a LivingSocial package for five group classes. The studio has a great layout, and it's bright and welcoming. The instructors really knew what they were talking about, but a lot of times they seemed to care more about demonstrating than correcting. They would do the exercises with the class, rather than watching the participants to make sure they were doing the exercises right. They would occasionally correct if someone was drastically off, but I frequently couldn't tell if I was doing the right thing. Also, in one class, there was just one other person with me, so I thought I would get extra attention. Instead, the instructor focused almost completely on the other person because she was quite advanced (even though it was a beginner class). The instructor kept talking about how much she'd love to work with the other person further. I felt really neglected. I much prefer the gyrotonic classes at Movement Salon, a studio not too far away. read more

On my first visit to this beautiful Gyrotonic Studio in the heart of the east village I must admit i was a bit intimidated. The trainers that work there and the owner are serious about taking care of themselves and there practice of GYROTONIC. I purchased my first session thru a friend who told me literally her life had been changed dramatically from learning how to move deeply and intelligently thru learning GYROTONIC and that this was the place to go. I soon learned that all the intimidation was in my mind and the desk staff to the trainers and the owner Billy Macagnone were as sweet as they come! I learned that we all started the same way and no matter what you background was that the basics are the same for everyone. I learned how to breath and move at the same time! My whole body started to open up and all the aches and pains started to vanish! This system is for sure the most progressive way to take care of yourself and the people at Body Evolution studio are Masters at guiding you thru this process! I can't wait to go back!! read more
