Tattoos were good--had some bumpy lines--but the real problem I have is with their pricing. Me and a friend got 2, 2x2 butterfly tattoos. Over the phone and through email, the most expensive they said I would pay was $120. We both paid $150-total of $300. There is bruising and we will most likely develop keloid scars. Also, a woman named Asia was rude when answering questions and had no common decency--we overheard the shop talking about us when we were sitting in their waiting area, mocking our lack of knowledge and their own incompetence. Talking about "they should have scheduled a consult" well then you should have recommended that. The tattoo artist--Asia--added shading to our tattoos which she charged us more for, and didn't even ask us. No thank you--never again. read more

Got my first tattoo here. We were initially anxious because of some of the google reviews but it was the only place nearby that would accommodate same day walk ins and this was a last minute thing. The first person who helped us didn't give us a sketch we were vibing with but the next person (I think his name was Adam) really helped us stay true to our design and was very careful and careful with the brushwork. Because it was a matching tattoo, he encouraged us to use our own handwriting rather than one of the computer generated fonts. He also didn't pressure us into doing the tattoo with him and showed us his instagram with examples of other tattoos he had done which allowed us to know what to expect and make a more informed decision. We both love the tattoo and thought it was well worth the cost read more

I got my first two tattoos and my first piercing there, and I had such a nice experience! Everyone was very nice and friendly. The place was sanitary and safe, and they were taking all the best protocols for COVID. Would highly recommend for your first tattoo or piercing. Great people and good prices. read more

I have been pierced here three times and I am so happy with all of my results. If you're lucky enough to meet Adrienne, definitely see if she can be your piercer. She's fast, kind and patient. I'm so happy I've had her for my piercings. I wouldn't want anyone else!! read more

I went here a few months ago for a tattoo by Aurora. I had messaged Aurora prior and she was very kind I showed her two reference images and said I wanted them both to be 2-3 inches. She then made up a design for one and asked what I thought and I said I loved it, but it was too big for what I was looking for. She then became short with me and upset and when I went in she barely talked to me and did not ask if it was okay to start or how I was doing throughout the entire process. This confused me because many of her reviews said how comfortable she made people, but to me she was the exact opposite. She gave me two tattoos, one of which was exactly what I asked for and the other was completely not. The one that she messed up on was the one I told her I wanted smaller and she completely gave me a different tattoo than what I was looking for. Only said about 10 words to me the whole time. read more

Super new staff from Florida that's rockin it! No Hacks!! I had the pleasure of Jonny Pagoda working on me, and not by accident. I checked out his recent work, studied his lines in person and skimmed through his portfolio(standard proceedure IMO). I take the work very seriously as if I were buying a new car, house or picking out a surgeon. We talked over everything, double checked everything and began. The final result is something I'm proud to wear. No flawed lines or scarring. The shop is extremely clean and professional. I watched how courteous they were to newbies without forcing anyone into making a bad decision. I highly recommend Jonny for ink and Benji for piercings. read more

Piercing turned out fine but it was an unpleasant experience. Definitely wasn't the cleanest experience, piercer touched many things after putting on gloves. Made more than a handful of inappropriate comments including "I don't care, I'll do a sh**ty f***ing piercing". Definitely not going back and wouldn't recommend - but again the piercing is fine. read more

Everyone there is very nice and straightforward. I walked in and got my septum pierced by Paul. He isn't a specialist with piercings, and I've seen his tattoo work and it looks great. Really nice dude, professional, and followed all safety and sanitation stuff well, but the piercing was way too low on one side. Like, lower than the septum itself entirely. No hard feelings though. I took it out and went in to ask for a refund. They were very helpful and understanding with the issue and got me my money back. I don't know about anyone else there for piercings, but I have to recommend looking elsewhere for piercings. But the fact that they were able to do a walk-in was awesome. I just wouldn't return to Body Art to risk paying 70 dollars for a 20 dollar quality piercing again. read more

Adrian did my piercing and was great! The prices are high but that's because you get what you pay for. Super consultative and they take their time with each person. Thanks so much BAT studio! read more

The first time I got pierced here was a super nice experience, Marley (?) was wonderful and made me and my friend feel at ease. Therefore when we wanted more piercings, about a year later, we decided to return to Body Art. When we called to make an appointment a gruff man told me to just come in, but when we showed up the wait was relatively substantial. When we eventually were pierced the man (never told us his name) had the most awful bedside manner I've ever met. He made jokes about COVID safety, pretended to give me mismatched jewelry, and (cherry on top) wore sunglasses the entire time, which I later saw was because he had two horrific black eyes. I can't make this stuff up. The whole thing was unprofessional and unpleasant, plus the piercing hurt much more than it should have. Seeing as Marley no longer works here I will not be returning. read more

My friend and i walked in an hour and a half before close, hoping to get a tattoo. When we walked in, the group of disinterested employees didn't so much as look at the potentially paying customers that had just walked into the shop. After being ignored, my friend finally said, "i guess you're not doing walk ins right now" to which the young lady behind the counter shook her head and gave a disgusted "nope". Thank god they weren't taking walk ins anyway, because i would've had to announce how much i did NOT want to get a tattoo there anyway, just based on the fact that these people can't even greet a fellow human being. Disgusted, and based on the other reviews i see for this place, I'm not the only one. read more

I wish I could give the male piercer a 0 star review. I can't imagine how my experiences could've been worse. I first went to get my nipples done and the guy didn't even introduce himself. He was very cold, bad at communicating, rude, and was inappropriately sarcastic. My friend got up to come into the room with me and he responded by condescendingly telling me that he preferred to do nipple piercings one on one because of how "intimate" the piercing was. I wish I left then and there. We we got further down the hall and he changed his mind and called my friend back over. Neither I nor my friend could tell whether he was joking. Anyway we get to the room and I wasn't sure what to do because I had obviously never had my nipples pierced before and he wasn't saying anything and he just looked at me and in the nastiest tone, as if I had five brain cells, he said "well you have to take your shirt off for me to pierce your nipples." He then proceeded to play with them as he explained that they needed to be hard for the piercing to be done (I've heard this is not true and is a piercing red flag.) Throughout the whole time he communicated nothing to me and was playing loud music. He did a fine job on the first nipple but fucked up the second one and went really far into my areola It looks like shit... I went back to get my conch done hoping for a different piercer but he was in again and I was already there and too impatient to go somewhere else. I figured the conch was simple enough for him to not fuck up. I was wrong. He pierced it again, communicating nothing to me and he stabbed through my ear without even telling me before he did it. He also pierced using a hoop, which he did not inform me of until it was in my ear, and pierced it way too far into my ear. It barely missed my skull. I highly recommend finding a different piercer at all costs. read more

I can't say everyone in this establishment is bad but I will give my highlight. When we called to scheduled a tattoo, we were informed the artist would charge $85 an hour and she took our deposit. When we arrived the "artist" informed us he makes his own pricing and told us $150 per hour and for what we wanted would be 90 min to two hours and be $250 each (calculations didn't add up) we adjusted our idea and placement and one of us had to do it cuz they had our deposit hostage. So first he seemed bothered that he had to make the adjustment to our original design (that we brought in ourself) when he started on me, he was very rough the way he held my arm and told me to shut up so I didn't move. I don't understand how my talking would live my arm but I stopped talking and he continued to man handle my arm enough to make bruises. Once finished (a 20 min tattoo) and cleaned up I pointed out what I saw as a mistake (broken line in the design) and he yelled at me saying it was the underlying stencil, don't touch it it's fine. Then dismissed me. My two friends did theirs (each being a 20 min piece as well, and he was just as rough leaving bruises on them. But with them he did tell them how to care for their new pieces (he did not instruct me.. not my first tattoo but it's the principle. Further more, he did not switch out the ink cup between me and the second friend but did between the second and third friend do to some contamination concerns. But before he started the third tattoo he went for a 20 min smoke break. Once we went to pay he still charged us $150 for a 20 min tattoo! Well 3 days later as I look at my tattoo, I am seeing the broken lines and some misplaced markings. Had he listened to me he could of fixed these. I strongly strongly recommend if u go here not to use the "artist" Mike I believe was his name. He's a scam at pricing and his work is sloppy. Now I have to pay a real artist to fix his mistakes read more

I love this studio put I'm writing this because of my experience the other day getting a piercing. Tatum made me feel so comfortable even though my friends were being kind of annoying lol. Wouldn't want to get a piercing anywhere else. Thanks Body Art! read more

I walked in as never having a tattoo before I was meet with sassy remarks about where we wanted it, I didn't know anything and they werent being considerate anout my new-ness. I was meet with someone who was very rude when I said I wanted the tattoo on my hand. Again I didn't know anything of placement. Then the person at the desk asked someone if they did hand tattoos and they said yes and they were nice with getting the tattoo I wanted but as the tattoo started the artist was being very inappropriate and slightly rude when I asked simple question about things. I like my tattoo, although costomer service was not the best. Two stars because the art was well done. read more

I just got my nose pierced at BA last month by a grandfatherly figure who made me feel very relaxed :). The piercing was a little on the expensive side (for me) : 42 buckaronis. I admit I didn't do much shopping around but I've been told by friends that the price is pretty standard for a nose piercing. I was treated nicely while there. I also accompanied a friend to get a tattoo at BA, which seemed seriously agonizing (He squeezed the LIFE out of my arm, hah! I'm a good friend, what can I say?) which is obviously normal, but only exacerbated by the heavy screamo playing in the parlor. The artist was skilled and not totally unfriendly. I don't think I'd go to BA for a tattoo, but my piercing went over well and is healing normally without issue. read more

Walked in to get a quote on a tattoo. No one looked up from their lunch or acknowledged me at all. Asked a few questions ( I'm a tattoo newbie) and was met with indifference and overall rudeness. Would never go there again. So much for customer service, I'll bring my business elsewhere. That being said, I've been in with friends that have had piercings done and Seamus ( the owner) was super nice and friendly. He should hire employees that are more like him. read more

Tatum (main piercer) was the best! She gave me advice on which piercing to get (third or middle cartilage) and I ended up getting both anyways! Very clean studio and piercing room. Good prices ($20 for third, $50 for cartilage) and no wait time at all! Overall great experience. read more

I got my nose pierced here about 8 years ago, and had a very good experience. However, I went back a couple months ago (I don't live in the area anymore) as I wanted to get a new nose ring. Nov '18 I went in on a whim for the eyebrow piercing I'd been thinking about for 10+ years. Staff was friendly, congratulated me for finally doing something I wanted to do, and had me in a room in minutes. Piercer (wish I remembered his name) was very cool, we talked about music while he prepped his gear, explained exactly what the process steps were, lined it up so I knew exactly where it would be be, and moments later I had my first eyebrow piercing. 6 months later and not one problem. Only issue I had was the initial greeting seemed like I was interrupting a conversation between 2 scary looking guys. Being a scary looking guy myself I was undeterred, but it may have put off someone else. read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible. I went there to get my tongue pierced. Not only was the piercer extremely unperson-able and almost downright rude to me and my friend, she placed my piercing incorrectly. She pierced it crooked (from side to side), which meant that the piercing passed through part of my muscle. I had to retire the piercing only 2 months later. There is another tattoo studio right on Church Street that has a much more skilled staff. It's called Vermont Custom Tattoo and Body Piercing. That is where I go to get all my piercings done by Julie. I have gotten 3 piercings done by her (septum, nostril, and eyebrow). She is extremely kind and professional. All of my piercings look excellent and healed without problems! read more

Great shop! Would DEFINITELY recommend. I've gotten a total of SIX [1 nose ($? it was back in 2007...), 1 conch ($42), and 4 lobe ($20)] piercings here, and have been happy with my experience and the results every time! The negative reviews of this place are ridiculous -- the staff is absolutely professional and precise. Sure, they aren't going to roll out the red carpet and offer you sparkling water upon entry, but c'mon people, it's a tattoo shop, not a day spa. All I care about is cleanliness and precision. They deliver. The last time I came for piercings they were quite busy (5 other customers there, with only 2 artists on staff), but they gave me the paperwork to fill out and let me know there'd be a little wait time -- which was fine because I just walked in off the street. After a short wait, Hailey (sorry, no idea if this is spelled correctly) escorted me down the hallway to a very clean, almost clinical, private room and talked with me about what I wanted, what type of jewelry I ultimately wanted to wear, and placement. Up until I was sitting in the room, my husband kept asking why I didn't "just go to Claire's" for a piercing, and then it became apparent. Firstly, they take the time to be exact with placement. Too often I've seen people with misaligned or wonky placement for piercings -- not here! The guide marks were expertly placed (and I'm usually a stickler for that sorta thing), even, symmetrical, and didn't need a single millimeter of shift. Secondly, they use individual sterile hollow needles for each piercing, so there's no risk of contamination or incomplete piercing (like you'd get with those shoddy guns at Claire's *cringe*). Thirdly, they only use individually wrapped, sterile surgical steel jewelry -- which is fabulous because I am allergic to nickel (and cheap crappy Claire's jewelry that's been dropped on the mall floor by 10-year-olds all day) -- and I had options for style. But their professional hygiene practices weren't the only benefit of coming here: my piercer worked with gentle and assertive hands. She made casual and pleasant conversation that made me forget that they were even busy. Within just a few minutes we were done and she began reviewing aftercare. I was given a very detailed handout on cleaning, reviewed making saline disinfectant rinse (1/4 t sea salt and 1c water), and was encouraged to return for help switching out the jewelry. Side note: I noticed that another commenter failed to follow these instructions (or even to attempt a simple Google search for the do's and don't's aftercare), so don't mind them. This place knows what they're doing. At the end of the day, I am extremely satisfied with my experiences at Body Art Tattoo, and will return again. Maybe for a tattoo next time? ;) read more

My friend and I love coming here for piercings but our last visit to the shop was not great. You could feel the unpleasant attitude of the piercer (Ally) as soon as you walked in the door. That attitude was held the entire appointment even when we were checking out. Moral of the story if you are looking for a pleasant and welcoming experience do not go to Ally. If they are the only one available go somewhere else, which we will be doing after this. read more

I went in to have a hoop put in my nose yesterday and the ladies doing my piercing were brand new and totally fucked up my nose, not to mention they tried to force me to get an entirely different piercing from the one I wanted in the first place. I got my septum pierced there as well back in January and I've had a much better experience with that. The owner barely said a word to me besides "come here" and didn't bother to supervise two brand new employees :/ All in all, they have terrible customer service and I wouldn't advise going there unless absolutely necessary read more

I went here one week ago for a helix piercing, and had a very positive experience. I went in less than an hour before they closed, and both people working were very friendly even though it was obvious they were mostly done for the night. Zoe did my piercing and she was VERY fast and gentle. It took maybe ten minutes from the time I arrived to walking out the door. The shop was clean and had seating available for friends to sit and watch which is always appreciated. $42 plus tip for the visit and I will definitely return! read more

Came to Body Art to get a nose piercing. Staff were precise with placement and answered all my questions but were very short with me. Didn't give me the best vibe knowing that this guy would be the one sticking a needle through my nose. My nose was pierced in a quick and comfortable manner BUT the piercer gave me a custom screw meant for the other side of my nose. This led to months of a terrible infection before I had to visit another shop to have a totally different piercing put in. These guys are good at making the process quick and comfortable but be careful about what jewelry they use and who is doing the piercing...wouldn't recommend for any newbie. read more

I went here with my 15 year old daughter to get her double helix on her left ear. Tony was excellent. He was calm and kind, which kept my daughter calm. The place was very clean and tidy. He used three pairs of gloves for cleaning my daughter's ear, piercing it, and then cleaning up. She said she felt very safe. And a few minutes later it was done. The price was very good too. Considering a single helix is $42 each, he gave us a deal $70 for both at the same time. And he then gave us really good instructions for aftercare. read more

The place looks nice but the people that work there are very rude and not professional. One of the people working was very against even giving me a tattoo and I ended up not getting one. It is also extremely expensive, to put it in perspective it was about $80 for a simple lip tattoo and $120 for a couple of numbers. Ryan is a jerk and the woman behind the counter didn't know anything. Would not recommend. read more

Don't go here! I got my rook pierced here and the woman who did it was extremely rude. The rook is a really sensitive spot and the woman doing the piercing was unnecessarily rough and made it hurt a lot more than it should have. A few years later, after the piercing had healed, it started irritating me so I went back to them for advice. They were not helpful. I had them take the jewelery out all together. I kept the hole open and let it heal, then went back a few weeks later to get some new jewelery and have them help me put the earring in. The guy working said he had to stretch out my cartilage in order to put another earring in. He barbarically shoved a huge rod into the (already very delicate) hole and stretched the hole out in the most ungentle, painful way possible. He put a piece of jewelery in that was impossible for me to get out on my own and charged me full price for the service. That night my ear was unbearably sore to the point which I couldn't even wear a hood (in January), or my eye glasses. The pain was only getting worse so I went to another piercing shop (Yankee Tattoo on Pearl Street- a place which now I highly recommend) to help me out. The piercing artist had to pry the earring out of my ear and told me I had to retire the piercing forever. So thank you Body Art, not only did you cause me unnecessary pain, and charge me for terrible service, but you ruined a piercing that I loved forever. Anyone looking for a good place in Burlington/ Church Street area to get a piercing, go to Yankee Tattoo on Pearl Street, or Custom Tattoos at 104 Church street above speeder and earls...NOT BODY ART! read more

I got my first tattoos here in August '09 while on vacation in Burlington. I went in on a whim one afternoon and they had an appointment open that evening, which I figured was kismet. That night they kept me waiting for about two hours, supposedly because the girl ahead of me kept passing out in the chair. (Exactly what I needed to hear before my first tattooing experience, thanks.) When I finally met with the artist, I had several photos of nautical swallows that I liked different aspects of, but I hadn't been able to find a single sketch that was exactly what I wanted. Turns out, someone there had just idly created a pencil drawing that was the exact image I was looking for and left it on the desk. Definitely kismet. The tattooing process was quick and easy (2 3" wide birds in color in under an hour), and 8 months later they look new. They almost definitely overcharged me ($240 before tip), but it was quality work and I don't regret it. read more
