There is great BBQ all over TX, and this is one of the better examples. Stand in line to order from the easiky-read wall menu. We had the Rib Sandwich Plate and a Briscuit Sandwich Plate. Both were tasty, although I was surprised the 'Rib Sandwich' consisted of bone-in ribs with 2 pieces of bread. (Some assembly was required! Hah!) What a fantastic little spot and the staff is incredible. I stopped in passing through today. If I had ordered just the brisket and the ribs, it would have been five stars. Adding the jalapeño sausage brought it down a bit, not that it was terrible. It just was not as good as the rest. The brisket was incredibly moist and very well cut. The ribs were outstanding, and this is coming from a guy who does not really like ribs. They had enough smoke, and they were tender yet not falling apart. The sides were excellent. This is place is just off the highway, but sort of tucked away enough that you wouldn't notice it immediately. I've had my fair share of Texan BBQ and I will say that the meats are above average. We got the combo meal with a leaner brisket and spicy sausage links and those were juicy, flavorful, and tender. The brisket was on the drier side, but since we did order lean, I'm sort of letting that slide, especially because their BBQ sauce more than made up for it. I do wish I bought a bottle while I was there because that stuff was decadent. On to the sides... the Mac and cheese was average. Nothing to rave about, same as the green beans. The star of the show was probably the coleslaw which *might* be better than Austin's Rudy's, and that's a coleslaw my family absolutely adores. They also had good pickles (nice and sour) and jalapeños. The kitchen and counter staff were friendly and were able to also provide us plates and pre-wrapped utensils for our takeout meal upon request. I fell for it. The signs along the highway put a taste in my mouth for BBQ and I convinced all (including me) that we wanted to go here for lunch. It is not too far off the interstate and during mid afternoon, not crowded at all. The Manager was off by the entry way as we walked in and gave us a Howdy and welcome from his chair. He jolted the staff into action and we placed our order for their fixins. I had a brisket sandwich, beans, tater salad and peach cobbler. My friend had the stuffed tater. Sorry y'all, I was slipping back into East Texasese. The iced tea was fresh and strong. The brisket was good, although a little drier than I like so I used quite a bit of BBQ sauce. The sauce was in a warming pan so dousing the sandwich kept the temperature of the meat right where it should be to maximize the flavor of the sauce, smoke and fat. The flavors were sweet and slightly tangy. The smoke was deep in the meat and left you with the wood's flavor in every bite. The beans were really good and cooked just right. The potato salad was fresh and tangy. The cobbler, well, my waistline didn't need it and it was too gooey for my likes although I bet there are many that love it that way. Bodacious has been an established business for at least 30 years. They are very community minded and support local charitable causes. Food: Brisket is the best I've ever had. My favorite is chopped brisket sandwich. Ribs are delicious and almost but not quite fall off the bone. I do wish they would do something a little different with the sides. They are just ok. Service: this is an order at the counter service. Food is always served very quickly and hot. Building is always clean and tidy. I have some serious brand loyalty as I have been eating here often ever since they opened. Soulman opened right across the street but the portions are smaller and more expensive. (But they do have better sides, I admit) so I just always go to Bodacious. This is a 2nd generation business and they are the nicest people. read more

I got the sliced brisket, potato (loaded), and a side of green beans. - The brisket was dry and no flavor. - The potato was just okay, should have been cooked longer. And you have to make it the way you want. They bring two little prepackaged butter packets, prepackaged sour cream, prepackaged IMITATION bacon bits, and a little thing of cheese. A little confused don't you have meat already? So why do fake bacon? - Green beans no flavor there either. Husband got the ribs and sliced brisket. He said the ribs were "ok". The total was $30+ for the two of us. Which is just a bit outrageous for what you are getting. The quality of the food, you bus your own table, and eat off styrofoam plates with plastic ware. Friendly and hospitable restaurant. If you want a quiet place to go with space to breathe, this is the place. I like coming here because there's a lot of space for my family to just relax and not worry about other people bothering us. The prices are average for bbq plates. Brisket is amazing.
