When I have dental insurance, I've been coming here. I moved for a time and experienced another dentist, which was totally great as well. After coming back here, I've noticed some changes. Yeah, they could update their office a bit - but if it works, it works. My issue is that, upon returning, I've had a newer dentist that doesn't have bedside manner. Very gruff, short and to the point, and not really explanatory. I can be alright with that if you're competent and good at your job. But, in the times I've been, it seems like he goes out of his way to activate my gag reflex. Yes, I have one and I warn people about it - but if you're in my mouth and then just start wriggling around, of course I'm going to gag. What was the reason for you to start doing that? And, if there is a reason, let me know - part of a gag reflex is a control thing. Also, if I've just gagged, don't ask if you can try again 10 seconds later - there's a process to gain composure and it takes time. I've worked with a bunch of dentists. The best ones operate on a consent model - "I'm going to do this now, okay?" is a very clear and powerful question. It makes the process easier and it is communicative. The hygienists here are usually pretty good. Friendly and probably trying to make up for the fact that they have someone who doesn't relate to patients well. Cleanings have been generally pretty good for me in the past few years. Quick, easy, and I'm out. I miss Dr. Burgler! Lastly, I sent in a payment a month ago yet got a reminder bill for the same payment. I'm pretty sure it's their office not processing the payment quick enough - not me having never sent a payment. I had a HORRIBLE experience with my dentist. 2 years later have to have a retreatment with an Endodontist because I have an abscessed tooth from a failed root canal. I wish i could sue my old dentist... First i went in for a cavity to be filled, she drilled my tooth to do the filling and told me i needed a root canal. I then had to wait weeks to get the root canal done and had a temporary filling that flaked off in my mouth all the time. THEN went into get the root canal, she drill and tells me i just need a filling. She does the filling. Two weeks later i am in EXCRUCIATING pain and couldn't even work. Just paced around the house in pain. She tells me i now need a root canal..... We do the root canal, it goes well. I get the crown on, immediately falls out that night biting into a soft piece pizza. I go back to get the crown on.. a few days later it falls out AGAIN,.. she puts it back on... Im not even kidding it falls out AGAIN. She tried to say it was me because i grind my teeth, i told her i have another crown and it has never done that before. She shaved it down so it fit better. I told her i can feel a gap with my tongue between the gum and tooth and she says its fine... then tried to charge me $100 for each time i needed the crown to be put back on. I got a new dentist and always eat on the right side of my mouth to avoid the left crown that falls out. On and off i have pain when it feels like its infected, i take ibuprofen and it heals, now i have an abscess that has puss like a pimple and pops and cant get into an Endodontist for two months. read more

I am terrified of the dentist. I have never had a good experience since I was a kid. Dr Bob's Dental was the BEST experience I ever had. From the beginning I walked in and was greeted immediately by the receptionist who was very pleasant. After a very short wait (less than 10 minutes) I was taken back and was told what to expect at this visit. X-rays were taken and I was shown them and told what options I had to deal with the work I needed. I never felt pressured or intimidated. I actually felt relieved that I may have found someone who I can trust. I had the option of having 3 cavities filled at that visit or to come back... no pressure. I had them filled and there was NO PAIN. I am so grateful to find this office and to all the people who helped me today. I now have a plan and a place to have my teeth repaired with people I trust. I've been to Dr. Bob's twice before for cleanings. When I went in today only for a cleaning they seemed pissed off at me because I didn't want or have time for x-rays. The woman cleaning my teeth or should I say assaulting my mouth... was overly aggressive. I was shocked because I usually look forward to my cleanings. I had my hair pulled several time my entire face sprayed water in my ears and down my back. The inside of my cheek has a big cut on it. at this point I was still very nice but thought I might have to just say something to the actual dentist. When she finish cleaning my teeth she told me how she had gone through chemo and her hair is coming back in gray. I felt bad so I figured I would say nothing. I was then told how much she dislikes the US And it is difficult living here since she was rich at home and had a beautiful house. I asked her why she left and she said because when we came to Iraq we ruined it. Now I am an empathetic person so I decided not to engage in this conversation, but seriously?!!! I will never ever ever go back to Dr. Bob's dental! if you read some of the reviews in other places than yelp you will see that they try to tell everyone they have cavities as well. There were several people that got second opinions that never had a cavity. It is too bad that this office exploits people just for money. As for the technician that worked on me today... I can only say shame on you for blaming myself and others as Americans for defending ourselves or trying to help other countries. I am not to blame here and I am extremely offended. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Katy for a few years now and would not trust my dental care with anyone else. From fillings, to crowns and even an emergency extraction, Katy and her assistants are kind, understanding and very gentle. I have never been in pain while they work on my teeth. I have been going to Dr. Bobs on Elmwood for a few years and love it. I never have to ask, and yet I see the same hygienist and Dr. each time - Angela and Dr. Katy, who are wonderful. They kindly explain prevention, and both display genuine interest and professionalism. I always leave feeling like I got special treatment. Everyone is friendly, its clean and i've never had a hassel with getting an apointment or billing. Also, if you are wondering, for some reason its on the perfect spot on Elmwood and I always get a great parking spot! read more

Do not go here part 1: from 0-28 I didn't have one cavity. I pride myself on my good dental hygiene. In the two years I went to Dr. Bob, they somehow managed to locate 5 and if I kept going I'm sure they would have drilled me into oblivion. My new dentist has explained that they're likely pressuring clients with very minor cavities to opt for the filling so that they can squeeze some cash out of you. Which leads me to my next point... part 2: they will double charge you. In fact, I believe I've been doubled charged multiple times. The latest incident was a bill I just received from them for $70 after not having been a patient there for nearly 2 full years. They claimed a computer glitch prevented them from resolving some outstanding payment and after many phone calls and a lot of questioning, they finally conceded that I had already paid this bill. WTF! If I would have blindly paid it, I'm sure they'd just keep sending it. DON'T GO HERE read more

I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience until today. Great staff, however, I was scheduled to get fillings today. They overbooked my time slot, so ended up doing just half of my mouth, and telling me I had to come back for the other half. Not only did they rush me out, but I also did not get an apology for the inconvenience! The best part was when the dentist said "we will finish the rest next time, we just don't want you to be numb for work." Now that is thoughtful, however I scheduled the appointment with sufficient time for the anesthesia to wear off, and if I was worried about numbness before work, I wouldn't have went during the week. read more

The 3 stars are for the office, NOT the doctors. I've been to this office several times, and each time the experience while I am at the office is pleasant enough (it's a dentist, so can't be too pleasant). The problem is with making appointments, getting calls back, and reaching the reception staff. Generally, when I need to reach someone at the office for an appointment, I have to call multiple times to catch a person. I've learned that leaving messages doesn't work as no one returns the calls. They never have any appointments available, work really annoying hours which puts pressure on me to keep having to take time off from work, and I always have to wait at least a few days to see a doctor (even when I had a cracked tooth!). Since they are near my house and the doctors that I've seen are nice, I most likely will return. However, I will have to plan ahead and remember that if I don't want to take half a day off from work I'll have to wait several weeks for an appointment. read more

I was less than 10 mins late and was told the hygienist took another pt already???? told I had to reschedule!!!! took a half day to go to my cleaning and they must have overbooked! Or needed to go to lunch?! Why couldn't I have gone in the other Pt's. spot?? Then the receptionist said the hygienist went to help the doctor Really??... nothing was posted about late appointments either. I understand I was late but it wasn't THAT late! I will never go back! I went to this location after having serious tooth pains which took about a week to schedule an appointment(not bad). When i got there i was greeted by The front Desk people who were VERY nice. After a while i get into the dentist office and i explain to them that my wisdom tooth was broken and was causing servers pain and they take x rays. Another dentist comes in they both look at the x rays and long story short they tell me to come back in over a month for an extraction and take Tylenol and Motrin for my pain(did not help). I called back the next day and told whoever answered the phone that the pain was becoming unbearable, i had no sleep that night. They asked me what pharmacy i used and said that they would contact the doctor and get back to me(never got a call back). I ended up having to call and go the the dr bobs location in Amherst where they did the extraction in basically less then 10 minutes, it was quick and easy i dont understand why i had to wait an extra month to come back to the dentist location on Elmwood. I recommend avoiding this place and just going to the location in Amherst. They have really nice staff and a dentists that know what their doing. Choose this dentist office out of convience because its a short walk from my home and i really wish i would have done more research before picking my dentist.The staff and hygenists are all very nice and professional but I cant same the same about the doctors. I had to have all four wisdom teeth out(2 impacted) 8 days ago and the beginning of my awful experience involved me WAKING UP in the middle of the surgery to the doctor cracking teeth in the lower right corner of my mouth! This is an image that will be forever burned in my brain for ever. I went back twice following the surgery for pain which im still in alot of 9 days later and which they wont give me anymore pain pills for even though im waking up at night and not getting good sleep (they only gave me 4 days worth to begin with) and in each of my visits ive seen a different doctor. The Last doctor i saw was Dr.Eddie( who is an asshole) yesterday and got treated like a piece of shit because I was concerned that I was still in pain after 8 days and wanted to make sure I didnt have an infection because they didnt prescribe me any antibiotics after the procedure like normal dentists would. His response to me was a very nasty and your wasting my timeish " Well what do you expect? Its only been 8 days...." and I told him im also having numbness in my chin to which he nastily replied " Well numbess isnt pain". I had a cleaning, two fillings replaced, AND a veneer repaired on 3/20/14, and the experience was fabulous. I don't sedate easily, and this only intensifies my tension when approaching a dentist's chair, but yesterday's experience @ Elmwood dispelled all my worries AND the work done was superb. The whole organization, from front office staff to Dr. Alvarez, himself, worked to reassure and relax me. I was numbed perfectly. The three (four, actually) dental issues (cleaning, two fillings, a veneer repair) were all done in two hours. I walked out smiling and pleasantly stunned. I'll definitely go there again. read more
