It's sort of divey nothing fancy its a tavern with low priced beers and food two pool tables and ice to go along with packed cold beer to go! Lots of deals. Old style jukebox with cards, video games, 3 dart boards two with basic bar foods. See pics. Staff here are nice. Not too many TVs watching college ball mostly horse racing. After closing out at Pourter's, we walked into The Dive around 5:40 PM... only to be told by the bartender that they were "technically closed" and that the people inside were on their last call. This was surprising and confusing, as Google said they close at 8 PM and Yelp listed 9 PM...nothing mentioned early closure on Sundays. On top of that, the place smelled strongly of marijuana, which made it even less inviting. We won't be going back... If you're in the area, stick with Pourter's...great food, great service, and no weird surprises.

Food/Drink: For starters, I got there after the main kitchen closed so they only had fried food. It was pretty late, I didn't even expect them to have any food. I just had fries, and they were good. I didn't have any alcohol, because I no longer drink, but it sounded like unreasonably cheap prices for the most part, at least compared to where I'm from. They also have cans of soda, which is my preferred style. The menu isn't huge but I'd also prefer that over overwhelming. They have plenty for everyone. It is 21+ at all times. Pool: The 7 foot tables were in pretty good shape, definitely better than the average bar table for sure. I didn't get a chance to play on it because others were using it, but they just got a brand new 9 foot table with an awesome, square, huge LED light for the top of it! They also hold tournaments pretty often, so it would be a good place to play for a long time, one day, without having to commit to a league of any sort. Service/Atmosphere: It's small, what some might consider a dive bar, but I think it can be so much more! I say that because the service was phenomenal. The bartender was so sweet and funny and honest and kind. I needed it that night, so I am truly grateful. All of the folks that were in there were also really nice as well, which to me, speaks of how the business is run and the people that they attract to their business. I'll be back if for nothing else than to say hello if I don't have time to play, but only if I'm passing through the town of course, it's a couple hours away from home. P.S. (nothing to do with this review) Yelp, I don't know if you actually read these but for some reason when I put a "." the next letter after the space doesn't capitalize. Not a huge deal, but I like for my reviews to be as grammatically correct as I know how, and having to go back to correct those is just a little tedious. I told the bartender about my experience at Bar Louis and he laughed saying he'd never be caught dead at chain bar paying $6.50 a drink. Definitely not a place to roll in solo unless you're a pool player. Definitely felt out of place, I felt that way driving through the neighborhood it takes to get here. There was a live band (the reason we sought out this place) and they charge a $5/pp cover charge. Their menu is basic bar food - mozzarella sticks, burgers, poppers, fries, etc. (no wings). The burgers looked REALLY good and everyone was ordering them but we weren't hungry enough to get one. We arrived around 7:15PM and stayed until last call. We each had 4-5 beers in that time (since we had to drive out of there on back country roads) and we split an order of mozzarella sticks and our total bill was only $30! Amazing! Note: they do allow smoking, almost everyone in there was smoking, and the ventilation system didn't do much to help the air flow. At one point my eyes were burning pretty bad - but it's a dive bar and I was not expecting it to be non-smoking. It's a cool little joint and I'm glad we went!

The bartender was snarky, but it felt ironic and playful -- classic dive bar energy. No issues at all. I even suggested we return Monday night with coworkers. For context, multiple bartenders at the first bar we visited that evening warned us not to go to 3rd Street Dive due to past negative experiences. I brushed it off because my Sunday visit had been fun and I thought they just didn't like the dive bar vibe. Monday was a completely different story. The bartender was openly hostile from the start -- yelling and swearing at customers, aggressively confronting people for briefly being on their phones, and creating a tense, uncomfortable environment. Demanding no one stand at the bar while we were trying to pay our tab. The situation escalated when he intentionally and aggressively threw a drink on one of my coworkers. This was not an accidental spill in a packed bar. It was deliberate. At that point, it stopped being "dive bar attitude" and started feeling volatile and unsafe. There's a difference between edgy and unprofessional. Sunday felt edgy. Monday felt unpredictable and uncomfortable. Louisville has too many great spots to risk spending your evening somewhere that could escalate like that. I hope ownership takes a serious look at what's happening behind the bar.
