Remember your favorite great uncle? The one who was a champion something or another that you have heard legendary stories about but no first hand experience with? When you join Bob for Fly Fishing Lessons, it's just that. He won't brag, but he was a champion fisherman and his love and understanding of fly fishing is imparted to you in a 3 hour lesson. Located in the middle of no where just about - Only, Tn, you drive down a red clay county road (don't be afraid!) that turns into a dirt road on a dead end street. When you get there you are at his home, a lovely country home on a spring fed creek with a fish hatchery. Knock on the back door and Bob will come out and introduce himself and his sweet dogs. You first start by standing in the vast front yard, close to the giant magnolia, and learn to property throw the fly fishing rod. It's not nearly as easy as you think. There is a true art and psychology behind it. When you hit the right stroke, you instantly know it! You won't be standing in water, you are on grass, working on technique. Wear pants or shorts and closed in shoes that are rugged. Bring the bug spray and a hat because you are in the heart of nature. Bob is incredibly patient and will work and work with you to get the technique down. Then you take a break and enjoy the fabulous and refreshing spring water from the spring on his land. You will sit and learn about tying various knots for fishing. These knots aren't good just for fishing, but for a vast array of other things. He makes you practice until you get it right. When you leave, you feel as though you have had an in-depth science lesson on fly fishing and the nuances of trout, particularly. It was an absolute delight and Bob is just a jewel of a person. I would HIGHLY recommend going, and bringing your children. This is great for anyone who ever wants to fish or just wants to learn more about fish and nature. Disconnect and enjoy the scenic beauty of Tennessee. Even my teenager daughter went from crusty, with her arms folded, when we got there, to smiling, relaxed and engaging by the time we left! She loved it. read more
