The boat's engine failed on the water, leaving us drifting into a rocky shoreline in dangerous, choppy conditions. Neighbors ran down to help, children were crying, and several people were injured. The company told us not to call the Coast Guard (others did anyway) and promised help--but instead sent two men in a truck who could only take three people, stranding the rest of us with small children and no keys or phones. When we finally got back, the owner was rude, blamed us, insisted his boats never fail, and tried to charge us the full rental plus $2,000 for damages--on the boat that had broken down. Check the Google reviews before booking--this isn't the first time this has happened. Spend your money elsewhere.

We were told to be at the landing at 10:30 for an 11 o'clock reservation. We were greeted with a man very irritated with us dropping off our coolers and bags. Apparently we were supposed to walk everything down from the parking lot. Not a problem but we were not told and there wasn't a sign. We didn't need to start our day with attitude but no big deal. The boat shows up at 11:10. We now have been waiting for 40 minutes. Kind of irritating but we are looking forward to a good day, so again, we shake it off. We take the boat out and it immediately stalls. We can not go faster than a very slow speed. We tried calling for about a half hour with no answer. We finally get someone and they say the fix to this problem, is to go sit at the sand bar for half an hour. Didn't send anyone out, they just want us to go sit. After sitting for about 1-5 to 2 hours, trying to make the best of the situation, we tried it again and it's still stalling. After calling them back again, they were angry with US. We are now arguing with them by phone and text in the middle of the lake on our fun day out. They have no solution and the only thing they offered was to take $100 off of our rental. We couldn't use the boat or the tubes and paid $600 for the day. The last thing they said, as you can see from the picture of the text, is that we need to still pay for the gas and "congratulations" on making them give us money back. They couldn't have been more petty at this point. We would have been more upset with the absurdity of them asking that, but we didn't use any gas because THE BOAT DIDN'T WORK. They ended up refunding us $225 after all that. We still paid too much but it's not worth the fight. Sometimes things happen that are unfortunate, but to be treated so terribly the entire time was just not right. To get nasty with us and not even come out to see if they could fix the boat, was unprofessional. The text message was rude and uncalled for. I would not recommend this company and certainly would never use them again.

I wanted to rent some equipment that would allow me to have fun as an experienced windsurfer and to be able to teach a range of people weighing from 145 to 225 lbs, and ranging in age from 19 to 60+. Torch Lake is Michigan's longest inland lake at 19 miles, deepest at 285' and 2nd largest. What…read morethose facts don't convey, is the beauty of the lake. Drive NE Torch Lake from M88 for a couple of miles and look to your right take in the beauty of the lake from the hills NE Torch lake winds through. Locals say that 6 shades of blue can be found in Torch's crystal clear water and I believe it to be true. I've had the pleasure of getting to know the owners Dave and Lisa over the last couple of years. They are seasoned sailors and and can provide lessons if you are new to sailing/windsurfing or just rusty. In the case of windsurfing they have a simulator on land that allows them to give instructions while you practice, without getting your feet wet. They will also take you out into the lake and provide instruction based on your skill level. Their business is located in a small subdivison on the NE side of the lake. Wak-Wing can be challenging to find with a GPS, keep in mind the city is Central Lake. Look for the white sign with a sailboat on it. While it's possible to catch them at the beach, it's highly recommended that you call and make an appointment. Enjoy!

First off, the boat didn't have a full tank of gas and they charge a flat rate of to fill up the tank. We ended up having to pay the flat rate even though we only spent approximately 2 hours of cruising (tbh not even 2 since we anchored it and spent some time swimming) and we were supposed to have 6 hours with it. Secondly, the kill switch tether had gotten pulled out, which we weren't even aware that it had a kill switch. We called for help and none of their employees could help us. The guy on the phone said to sit tight and let one of their employees come out and handle it, which was fine, but their employee got there and couldn't help us out. As an employee of a boat company, who comes out to help the customers who get stranded in the water, they should be trained with the basics of what to look for. Well, this employee didn't know to check for the tether. Don't get me wrong, the employee was absolutely nice and actually a cool guy. He spotted what appeared to be an oil or gasoline leak and at this point I was thinking this was out of our hands, after all none of us are boat mechanics. Finally, we get towed back, with no one knowing it was a kill switch tether and thinking it was an engine problem and had gotten charged with a steep price after they found out it was the tether the next day. Since none of their employees could help us out with the issue on why our boat suddenly stopped working and it was something as simple as a kill switch that we had no idea about and neither did any of their employees as well, I feel like we got scammed. This place seemed like a good place at first, but after this experience, I'm never going to take my business there and I feel like you should know why. All the equipment functioned well. We had no problems with the boat during the trip. The bed in the main cabin was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. This was our first time sailing on Lake Michigan. There are limited places to anchor, but there are many marinas. All of the marinas have adjacent beaches and grassy areas with play grounds. Marinas are near walking trails, restaurants, grocery stores, and anything else cruisers need.
