Being forced to use…read moreyour phone in any service setting disrupts the ambiance and the ability to be in the moment. It's one thing to replace a menu with phone cameras. But when a restaurant uses a QR pamphlet as a visual cue for table service, the dynamic between staff and patron is stripped of hospitality and becomes solely transactional. Abilene attempted to reinvent the wheel in food service, which left us feeling like an unwelcome inconvenience. Our food arrived, and the taste didn't live up to the presentation. The grilled chicken sandwich was as devoid of taste as the staff was of personality. Bland and uninspired.

The service was also great as the bartender was quick and got us our next drinks as soon as he saw we finished our first one. During our visit, we tried the Matt's Ginger Old Fashioned, Brooklyn, Vulcano, and Palermo Fix. All cocktails were $14 each, which were all nicely made. The Brooklyn was very strong and the Old Fashioned is a nice classic with a hint of ginger flavor. The other two were lighter with twists of sour. They also offer some paninis, plus a toasted lard bread ($5) that we ordered. The lard bread is from Mazzola, which is absolutely delicious, but kind of sad that they only offer 4 pieces. Cool bar in the neighborhood with tasty drinks. It's such a simple, yet sophisticated bar. There's also a pool table in the back to enjoy.

Fun off-beat saloon decor, great community vibe in general, performers, patrons, employees, etc., but one of the bartenders was kind of unnecessarily exclusive and rude to us when we were trying to find a place to sit. The games were picked over and missing pieces but we made makeshift pieces with our own tic tac box and the bartender was nice enough to provide us with extra slips of paper and pencils for pictionary. We ended the night playing pinball and other arcade games in the back while admiring their backyard and soundtrack. They were really welcoming and chill and "Sunny Came Home" played on the speakers, which made me very nostalgic. The prices here are nostalgic too, harkening back to pre-covid prices.
