Typically going to a tattoo shop by a military base is frowned upon! However, I took my chances with Boardwalk tattoo and was very satisfied! I've gotten tattoos around my other duty stations, but boardwalk is by far one of the better ones!! I'd highly recommend all the military members to come here They also do walkins and still do an amazing job!
So...this was my 1st time to a tattoo parlor. Is that even what they still call them?! Anyhow, I wanted 3 different ear piercings. I got there & kinda panicked about the conch piercing & the guy helping me was so kind & so patient with me. He calmed my nerves so I did it. Everything was so clean. Mask were worn. He disinfected everything well. I felt safe & had a lot of fun. He gave me very clear instructions on how to care for everything too. I'm 24 hours in & I love all 3 piercings. Highly recommend!!!
I use Yelp a lot when shopping around. Once again, it didn't fail me. I walked in to Boardwalk just to get a consult on some script work on my forearm. (I did not have an appt). The shop is extremely clean and well kept. There were 2 artists busy with customers and Abel was preparing for his next appt. After a few minutes of speaking with Abel, I felt really comfortable with him and what he had in mind for my tattoo. I asked if he could fit me in today and he said, yah of course after my next appt, which shouldn't take long. When his client came in, Abel asked him if he could take care of me first which shouldn't take very long at all. I really didn't expect that and his client was more than happy to oblige. WOW ! It took Abel a few minutes to get set up and then we were ready. It only took about 30 minutes from start to finish and it turned out better than what I thought. I've got a bigger piece that I want next and there is no doubt where I am coming back too. Abel is top-notch and he does hella work !! I highly recommend !
Stay TF Away from this place! I regret getting nose piercing replacement here! The lady that did it forcefully shoved the bar into a healed hole, it hurt! The pain made me jump and I was bleeding, I've gotten plenty of jewelry replacements before and I never bled nor did it hurt. We actually had plans afterwards, but because I was bleeding so much we just went straight home. I left the shop TRAUMATIZED! Never in 6 years of having a nose piercing have I experienced a piercer that was as rough as this lady was. At first, she seemed knowledgeable and legit, but once I had paid professionalism was out the window. She wasn't gentle at all and was rushing me out the door. I will never come back to this shop and I will never recommend anyone here for piercings. Go to a reputable shop with higher reviews, better quality and professionals. You truly get what you pay for at this shop, mediocre quality and substandard service. No thank you! You've been warned.
Very friendly service and very good artists. We were coming into town and wanted to get tattoos. We saw good reviews for this shop and decided to stop by at the end of the day just to inquire. The artists were very friendly and listened to what our ideas were. They gave us appointments for the next day. Sean did mine and Frankie did my wife's. They both did really great work. The lines are great and no blowouts. We were really happy with the end results and the prices were very fair.
I recently decided it was time to get my cartilage pierced and so after doing my yelp research, it led to me Boardwalk Tattoos. I called on a Wednesday night and made my appointment with High Five for Saturday. He was very informative over the phone and the appointment was made easily. I had seen on a few reviews it is cash only, so I made sure to confirm - so make sure to bring cash! On the day of the appointment, High Five helped me pick out my jewelry (he was a little low on jewels/colors, etc. but I'm guessing you could probably bring your own? make sure to ask) and figure out the placement of my piercings. I went with the double helix (because if I'm already getting one, I might as well get two!) and High Five walked me through the entire process. He was extremely professional, made sure he sanitized everything thoroughly, and overall was a calming presence. I've been pierced a few times in the past, and I would 1000% recommend him to anyone, whether it's your 1st or 10th piercing. I'm obsessed with the end result - they look super cool! I could not be happier with my piercings or the experience. Thank you, High Five!
Boardwalk Tattoo is an awesome shop. I researched several shops throughout the San Antonio market and settled on Boardwalk Tattoos. I looked at each artist portfolios online and decided to check them out especially after reading the customers reviews. Every artist is capable and they all bring with them a certain style. I liked Sean's work as he did a lot of realism and also did a lot with black/gray which something I personally like. I stopped in and talked with Sean for a few minutes and showed him what I wanted. I was specifically looking at an Asian dragon to represent a part of my heritage. Sean reached back out and sent me a drawing. It was exactly what I was looking for and set up a session with him. I just did one four hour session as the dragon is pretty large and I actually just got home. I'll come back in a few weeks for another session to finish it up. This shop atmosphere is pretty awesome. All of the artist are friendly and pretty hilarious. If you looking for a piercing or just tattoos then thus is the place for you. A lot of AIT soldiers come into this shop looking for tattoos. It's almost like it's a rite of passage for these young soldiers as I remember I got my first tattoo when I was stationed at Ft Bragg back in 92. The place is awesome. I highly recommend. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I've gotten a piercing and three small tattoos here, was a walk-in both times. High Five and Bobby are great! Very professional, clean and friendly studio. It's been 5+ years since my last tattoo and I was amazed at how painless the process was this time around. I'll refer my friends here and will definitely be back. Note that it's a cash only establishment.
Wanted my left cartilage pierced and to get a consult for coloring my latest tattoo. I got excellent work from Rudy who suggested the right size earring and gave one that he gauged my piercing with. He instructed me on cleaning it and recommend who I should talk to about coloring it in. Rudy was finished with my piercing in less than 3 minutes and I watched him sanitize for the next customer. Very nice atmosphere and clean shop. Comfortable for you to bring your babies or your grandma. I will be back.
What a great experience! The shop itself is clean and well-lit. Prices are very reasonable. Most importantly: the artists are super friendly and knowledgeable. Abel and I were able chat through the whole process and I had a beautiful piece of art put into my skin. I will always return to this shop!
I went in to get a small script tattoo and was very nervous since it was my first one. Everyone was very quiet and sort of stand-offish when I first came in and were very serious. But once I was there a bit longer everyone turned out to be so nice. I just walked in because it was smaller tattoo. I had to pay up front and I'm pretty sure they only take cash. He then told me to wait a bit so they could prepare with a new needle, which I saw him open. Then they helped me find a font I liked and then printed it out to put on my back so I can make sure I loved it. I did! The actual inking took about 10 minutes and my tattooist, Bobby, always made sure I was comfortable and made me laugh. It did hurt, especially when it got towards my side but it was over very quickly. Bobby did an awesome job and I'm so happy with my little tattoo! Afterwards, he told me exactly how to take care of it and I have had no problems with the healing process. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

We came in from out of town for tattoos. We contacted the shop ahead of time and the communication was great. When we arrived, Abel had drawn up some preliminary designs. He was kind, courteous and the tattoos came out great. This was such a pleasant experience. read more

Abel knocked it outa the park again yesterday ! He did this piece right above my last one (see previous review). These will tie into a larger piece eventually. We had to alter my idea a little due to some font issues, but Abel's idea was spot on and I am wicked happy with my piece. I have definitely found my artist and I highly recommend ! They also do piercings ! read more

I got my first lower back tattoo with able today! I sure picked a hell of a spot for a tattoo. It was crazy painful but i absolutely love it! It was definitely worth it. I really appreciate the fact that he let me take as many breaks as I needed even though I was a bit of a baby haha. 3 hours later and this is what I left with! I love the color and the detail. Me and my husband will definitely be back when it's time to get his tattoo. Thanks again able! read more

My 16 year old daughter wanted her nose pierced. They came highly recommended. Not only did they take walk ins, the price was super affordable. High Five was knowledgeable, professional, and precise. He calmed my daughter and did an amazing job walking her through the process and the care after. Would 100% recommend him! read more
So the workers were nice. I gave them the 2 stars for that. I went in to get my daith pierced. The piercer appeared nervous through the whole experience. I was uncertain about her recommended placement and showed her pictures on Google but the piercer and another worker assured me it was just my anatomy. Well I still don't like the placement of my piercing. It looks like its almost coming out of my head. I came here because they were cheaper than other quoted shops. All in all, you get what you pay for. read more

Bobby was my artist and he was great! Not heavy handed at all, and very talented. By far my best tattoo, its a piece of art that I'm proud to have. The shop overall was relaxed, clean, and enjoyable. Price was also great for the quality I got! Su did a great piece on my Aunt as well! 10/10 will get tattooed again :) read more

I've recently had 2 miscarriages with the latest being 12weeks and knowing the gender. I wanted a tattoo to help heal myself and emailed here with an idea. They responded within 12 hours asking to go in for a consult and pricing, etc. I went in today and talked with what I wanted, showed pics, etc. Abel said he could do it right then if that worked for me.. and it did! I am in love with this and the love and reminder it gives me. Everyone there was nice and easy conversation. Would def go back the next time I have a tattoo urge! read more

Very clean and very friendly. Everyone was super professional and did amazing artwork. A little pricey but that sort of to be expected. My husband still need to get his tattoo finished. The artist purposely didn't finish so that we would have to stop by and complete it in another session. So that was a little frustrating but overall the work they do is great. read more

What a great experience. Best tattoo shop ever. This is my fifth tattoo shop and first in SA (the rest were in California). My artist was Claire...friendly, helpful, patient and skilled. She's new to the shop, but unquestionably a pro in all aspects. Shop is clean and has a nice vintage vibe to it. Very pleased with the end result. I will definitely return. They did a really good job I love my little tattoo and it hurt the least out of the 4 I already have. The price was a little much I thought, $75, only because he just had to print it and stick it, I drew it it was my hand writing he only had to straighten out the cross. No military discount. Very friendly offered us pizza very personal overall atmosphere was a 10 I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! read more

Had a great experience at Boardwalk! I walked in shortly after open on a Monday a few months ago with a general idea/sketch of what tattoo I wanted, and Chuy gladly helped me figure out the details. He helped me choose a font for the text as well as choose a design for the graphic. Overall, it was a great experience -- incredibly friendly artists and a good atmosphere for my first tattoo. read more
