When my wife…read moreand I rolled into Waxahachie late one Saturday afternoon and found nearly everything closed, we had no idea that we were walking into Webb Gallery during one of the only times all week when it isn't. The first thing you're likely to notice here is the dog. I hope you like playing with dogs, because the little black Boston terrier in this place is going to bring you toys and expect you to throw them. His little black body is going to blast and shake his way back and forth across the room the entire time you're there. He cares not for art. He cares for play. If you're at all like me, once you managed to lure the hyper little dog close enough to a wall to actually look at the art, you're going to be delighted. I've gone to contemporary art museums, trying to make myself a better person in some way, and spent the whole time trying to understand... anything... really. I read information about the artists and what they're trying to portray, and my brain makes a noise like "buh" and shuts down. Here, though, the art is simply delightful. When we went, there were sideshow posters and paintings like old tattoos. There were small pieces based on elaborate displays of bad puns and large moving displays made of toothpicks. There was cute jewelry like the silver necklace my wife bought with the pendant that just says "blah blah blah." Everything is fun and whimsical and punctuated by the excited grunts of a tiny dog dropping a Gumby toy at your feet. The owners seemed very happy to discuss any of the pieces with us, and knew all about the artists who had created the art. I think they stayed open longer just because we walked in when we did, and at no point did we seem rushed to get out. We felt very welcome and enjoyed every minute of our visit to Webb Gallery. If I ever find myself in the area on a slow weekend afternoon again, I will certainly be stopping in to see what's in their gallery next.

A cute little family owned winery we stopped by on our way to see the Ennis bluebonnets. There's also a good selection of cheesecakes which sounded interesting but we didn't try them. Staff was very friendly in giving recommendations and describing each wine. Tried a few recommended wines (each person can sample 2 for free) and they were just okay for me. Lots of fruity wines and some seasonal flavors like gingerbread which was interesting. I liked the lime with coconut the most, but didn't love any enough to buy a glass or bottle. We ended up getting the cheese board, which was $18 and came with crackers and a good selection of cheeses, meats, nuts and mustard dip. Adding some grapes would've been amazing!

First let me say that April is their peak time (because it's blue bonnet season and folks are out and about) so they charge a fee to park. We arrived near closing time yet they were kind enough to welcome us in and allow us to look around. We also decided to grab a glass of wine while we walked around looking. I will honestly say that I am NOT a wine snob, I couldn't tell ya a good glass from a bad glass but I don't like dry and I don't usually like reds. With that said I was given some suggestions and for what it's worth, I'd drink it again. We were offered to purchase some cheesecake but without seeing what I was getting and told $11, I passed on it. I will say that the souvenir "glass" that I paid for was disappointing, come to find out it's a plastic cup, however I was told it "floats in the pool" but I'll never know because I don't own a pool to sip and float in. So most the folks out in the yard were wine tasting and seemed to be enjoying what they had. I had one couple who actually went down the list letting me know what their favorites were and why (I took notes). This is a cute little spot off the beaten path. I must say that I'm thankful for a restroom but I'm never a fan of portable potty's and unfortunately this was the only option at the time. I will become a regular here and I found out Wednesday is happy hour prices. Reds for $6 and white for $5 a glass. Susan took care of us and she was amazing!! She allowed us to taste the wines to make sure we liked our final selection. She answered all our questions and educated my friend on the different types of wine because she was a beginner wine drinker. We also learned that all the wines they serve are Lost Oak's. Even though we got there at 7:20 and they closed at 8pm she didn't rush us and took her time serving us. My friend got a white wine and I got the cabernet franc. We both enjoyed them. The establishment is beautiful, the have seating outside and inside. They also have games and a wine club you can join. Can't wait to go back especially when the weather is a little cooler so we can use their fire pits.
