My call to the funeral home was answered by a sympathetic assistant who not only took my contact information and the basic situation, but took the time to ask how the family was doing and share a little about her family's experience with hospice. It was a genuinely nice gesture. I honestly didn't know what to expect when we met with the pre-planning counselor to discuss options and plans. As a cynic, I anticipated an upsell attempt, but the counselor didn't try to talk us into anything we didn't already have in mind. In fact, he made sure to let us know about veterans' burial benefits and other options that could have reduced the expense of the arrangements. By the time we left, we felt very comfortable about having Mom's memorial at H&B. The experience continued this way after Mom's death and through to the end of the memorial. Shortly after I sent an email to the pre-planner advising him of her passing on a Sunday morning, I received a call from H&B, letting me know that they were in touch with the hospital, and setting up a time for us to come in to see the funeral director the next morning. Their attentiveness took a lot of anxiety out of my desire to do the best for my mom. For the memorial, we were both surprised and touched by the lovely ways the team personalized the experience, including small keepsakes reflecting Mom's hobby, and envelopes addressed to Mom's favorite charity for visitors to make a donation in lieu of flowers. As others have said, this is not a business you look forward to using. That said, my family and I would recommend Bradley, Haeberle & Barth, based on our experience. Their care and attention to detail were a comfort in a difficult time.
