We've been driving the extra mile to get to this pet salon. Our dog Toast will sit and hang out with the staff, she feels so comfortable! We have to bring her in more than average dogs, because she was a rescue and her nails had never been cut before (thus her nail roots were extremely long). The staff was able to flag that just by looking at her black nails. Super professional. Our other dog is petrified of any groomer we take him to, but he does the least amount of crying here. read more

I absolutely love this gem of a pet salon, located in the Outer Richmond. Eva is FANTASTIC! She was able to trim my Golden Retriever's hair - which nobody has ever been able to do. He looked amazing and came out looking beautiful and happy. Our Corgi also loves visiting Eva for nail trims (which he hates) and grooming - he came out looking fantastic - fluffy and smelling fresh! We have been going to ester for alittle over 2 years now , and I won't take him anywhere else. I always feel comfortable and safe leaving my shih tzu/lhasa apso (he) with her (I'm one of those very protective dog moms !). My dog always turns out great and I never have had any issues. They did a horrible job to my dog. Simply because they hired whole bunch of high school/college students to cut our dogs hair. I made a complained to the sisters about how terrible the cut was and how deep they cut to their skin. They never want to refund even half and simply just say we'll train them better next time. The two sisters are usually the one who cuts their hair. But now since they hired these students to do their job and expect us to pay $70 for a horrible cut. Im good On to the next one. read more

Review for service on Sunday, 06/08/14 We usually cut our own dog's hair but we've been waiting on our grooming kit in the mail and ended up letting my uncle's dog's fur and nail grow. Somehow his dog (a 2yr old white female Maltese, 20lbs) escaped from the house and went missing for a week and a half and thankfully ended up at the SPCA. The SPCA saw how knotted her fur was and how long and sharp her nails were and fined us. We picked her up on Saturday, saying if we don't groom her within 72 hours, we can't have her anymore. She essentially looked like a waddling fur ball I spent nearly 2 hours that Saturday trying to find a grooming place. The first one we tried on Market near Church and Duboce claimed it was open but once we got there, the doors were locked, lights were off, phone kept ringing but no one was there. It looked deserted. Eventually we drove directly to Petsmart since Mom liked what she saw whenever we passed by. But they were completely booked for two weeks. I ended up calling 15 other stores, Petco and local included. No one was available until, at the very last call, BMK said they were able to give us a Sunday 3pm appointment, AND offered the Yelp coupon of $60 off. Location: It's at the edge of Richmond close to Washington High School. Neighborhood is relatively quiet. The store itself looks somewhat small and very pink. I'd say roughly 40x50ft of whatever you can see. A waiting space with a wall of doggy clothes to your left. The check-in desk and a doggy fence separates the customer from the dogs and salon area. In the back, like in the pictures other people posted, there are cubbies for the dogs to wait. It does get a bit noisy due to that. Cleanliness: With pets, nothing is completely clean. I'd give it a 3/5 compared to Petsmart. They seem to only have two people working at any given time with 5+ dogs so it's understandable if they can't get to it right away. Service: I'm very pleased they were able to give us an appointment. The lady at the check-in had a sore throat yet she was able to help us with what we needed. Very patient too because my uncle brought his family and then me and my sisters tagged along too. Grooming: I'd say it's average overall but very nice for something we were rushing to get done. The cut is even and gives our dog a nice sweet look, especially with her jacket on. Mom still wants Petsmart to do it though. Her tail was styled as well, making it look longer than it is. Currently the fur looks more fluffed like a teddy bear. read more

Adding another review because this place is truly insane. The manager FINALLY contacted me after 2 weeks of me calling, after I sent her the vet bill, and apparently they were calling me back on the wrong phone number (which is interesting considering they had the correct phone number to call me and tell me that my dog was ready to pick up...). The manager at first is super apologetic and tells me they're going to fire the new groomer that cut my dog...I didn't ask for that, I'm actually understanding of cuts, I'm not, however, understanding of poor customer service. Then she takes the info off the vet bill and proceeds to call my vet without my permission, to ask what actually happened (instead of listening to me??), my vet doesn't disclose patient info, she they called me, I had to obtain the medical info, and again send to the bmk manager. A lot of work for and $82 grooming refund I'm asking for. Then the manager receives the medical info, apologizes and said she's going to venmo (venmo?? not just refund my credit card??) the money that night. She doesn't and I follow up today, to which she responds to me needing to SIGN A CONTRACT?? Saying that I received the money and that I won't post on social media or say anything bad about the salon. Sorry, no, this is not a class action law suit, this is over $80-something dollars, I'm not signing anything. She goes back and forth with me THROUGH TEXT saying she's worried I'm going to go after her for more money, so I need to sign this contract. Finally I realize how ridiculous this is, I don't even care about the money at this point, and that this completely unprofessional place doesn't deserve anymore of my energy. Still no refund, still in complete awe of this disrespectful, unprofessional manager. What a complete joke of a business. read more

I happen to live in the neighborhood and always walk by BMK pet salon. Through word of mouth from a friend we decided to take our pup here. The interior is very cute (girly) with white picket fences and pink & white paw print walls. When we were they there were shelves up but no merchandise as they didn't get their paperwork to sell merchandise just yet, (so I've heard). Mabel, our groomer was very sweet, she did a great job cleaning up our shaggy pup. My pup smelled great for two weeks after her grooming which I loved. Some other places after a grooming the smell fades the next day. One day while dog walking my pup and my mom's dog we dropped in to get a nail trim for my mom's dog, whose nails were getting way too long. Popped in without an appointment and Mabel accommodated us with a nail trim for my mom's dog and for my pup 2 for the price of one and she cleaned up her girly area free of charge. This Thanksgiving we rescued a puppy and the poor thing was scared and unsocialized. She was in need of a grooming, her whole body was matted and her nails were 1/2 inch too long. We dropped her off for Mabel to groom and when we came to pick her up she was a whole new dog, unrecognizable. She was so happy to see us. She was so cute with her big head on her little shaven body. Mabel is great! We have visited BMK pet salon multiple times and each visit was a pleasure. Gonna earn the free grooming soon! read more

This time was my dog's first time at BMK. Esther was super quick (full groom was done in an hour) and overall, did a good job. It wasn't until I got into my car when I realized that my dog wasn't completely rinsed off around his ears, which made his hair clumpy, and his hair around the ears didn't seemed to be brushed. Also, there were a few remaining strands of long hair that weren't cut. Regardless, my doggie is a fidgeter so I don't really blame the groomer. I was asked how I wanted him to look and they cut his hair accordingly. Make sure that if you're getting your dog groomed, give specific instructions!! I have a very skittish pup who is afraid of everything. She's gone to Sharon 3 times and it's been great. Today she has her first full hair cut and she looks amazing! I just moved into the neighborhood. They took my same day appointment since I was going over to my BF's parents and bringing my german shepherd. The ladies here are very nice...until I got a call 10 minutes after I dropped off Rylee. They told me that she needed to be picked up and that she was "crazy." If anyone told you your child was crazy, wouldn't you be upset too? Anyhow I circled "hyper" on their client sheet and told them that she's mouthy which most shepherds are. I did notify them of her flamboyant personality. They could have at least told me she was too hyper to put in the tub. Tell me why The Dog Spa (my regular spot) can get Rylee's grooming done? Tell me why Hollywood Dog Grooming can at least give her a bath? The whole reason why I don't want to do it is because I am willing to pay to have this done. I'm sorry that I don't have one of those dogs that I can fit in my burberry, but if you happen to, please bring them here. read more
