After a sensor replacement by my trusted mechanic was to no avail I had the jeep, now unreliable for the first time in 28 years, having died four times in the last mile I drove it, dying again as I pulled into my driveway, towed to AMO because of the stellar reviews they have received here on Yelp, in what turned out to be the right move. What may seem an inordinate amount of time for a diagnosis, and I certainly thought it was, until I learned from Josh, that the diagnostician, I assume Adam, had been out sick, believe that or not, and I do...Adam solved the issue when he returned. It was NOT an easy diagnosis...I had taken it to my regular mechanic, twice, they could not determine the cause. I do admit that I became frustrated with the amount of time it was taking for AMO to diagnose, it is my only ride, and I told a very polite woman that answered the phone just that. I received a call back shortly from Josh explaining the situation. The eventual diagnosis? The ECM, the engine's brain, was faulty and needed replacing...and the part was expensive. I approved the repair and my old Jeep was up and running...ready to go on 2/7...back to its old self. Okay, here is my assessment, simply, these guys are great! Once they were able to look at it, it was diagnosed and repaired in short order. The difference between the price Josh had quoted me and what they charged was about 500 bucks! Oh yeah, it was in my favor!! WHO DOES THAT? They gave me a price, I approved it, and the invoice was $500 cheaper. Did I say these guys are great?! My dad bought this new in 1997, he died in 2005, and I have been driving it ever since. Now 70, this by far the best vehicle I have owned, she's not much to look at, and some features don't work, but she starts and runs beautifully. At age 30 she qualifies for "Antique" plates in Florida, thanks to AMO, I have no doubts she will now make it! If you read this far, take your vehicle to AMO now, you will not be disappointed!

Advance Auto Repair & Transmission - Please Read Before Trusting This Shop With Your Transmission…read more I normally do not leave negative reviews, but after dealing with this issue from November 2024 through 2026, I feel obligated to share my experience so others can make an informed decision before spending thousands of dollars here. In November 2024, I brought my vehicle to Advance Auto Repair & Transmission because my transmission was slipping. After speaking with the owner, Frank, I paid $3,991 on 11/2/2024 to have my transmission rebuilt. About a week after getting my car back, I noticed transmission fluid leaking and had to return the vehicle for repairs. They corrected the leak, but approximately three months later, the transmission began slipping again. I brought the car back, and Frank repaired it without issue. However, shortly afterward, the torque converter (which is part of the transmission system) failed. The torque converter was replaced multiple times because, according to Frank, the parts supplier kept sending defective parts. Eventually, he ordered the part directly from the dealership. Unfortunately, after the replacement, the transmission slipping returned again. I continued reporting the issue, but every time we test drove the vehicle together, the problem would not happen while Frank was present but did happen when one of his employees test drove it with me for about 30 minutes and he cleaned a certain part that he thought would fix the problem, which it didn't. When I brought it back and told frank his employee noticed the slippage, we asked him but now he state he doesn't remember. Are you serious. What kind of shop is this. So frank again told me he believed I was "paranoid" and insisted the transmission was fine. Instead of fully resolving the issue, he extended my transmission warranty as a "courtesy." However, my concern was never about extending the warranty -- it was about properly fixing the transmission while it was still under warranty. I continued driving the car despite the slipping because I had already invested nearly $4,000 into the repair. Over the course of 2024 into 2026, I repeatedly brought the vehicle back regarding the same issue. Throughout this entire process, I remained patient and respectful, despite the ongoing frustration. My final visit was especially disappointing. After waiting for Frank to return from a test drive, he walked into the office laughing. I told him I did not understand what was funny because this situation has cost me thousands of dollars and years of inconvenience. Once again, he dismissed my concerns and told me the transmission was fine and that I was simply paranoid after we test drove it for only about 5 minutes. What makes this even more frustrating is that multiple passengers who rode in my car independently noticed the transmission slipping without me mentioning anything to them beforehand. Clearly, I am not imagining the issue. Before I left, Frank informed me that my warranty had expired, despite the fact that the original transmission problem was never permanently resolved while the warranty was active. Advance Auto Repair & Transmission advertises "100% guaranteed work," but based on my experience, I do not feel that promise was honored. After paying nearly $4,000 , which I'm still paying on and spending over a year returning to the shop for the same unresolved issue, my transmission is still slipping. Frank got paid, I still do not have a properly repaired transmission and I'm out of $4000.

It's taken me awhile to write this since I do have other life priorities than writing reviews. But here it finally is. After they changed my front brakes, and let them convince me the rotors needed changed but...did not. What was I thinking?! Anyway...finally had funds to get the rear brakes done. Was given an estimate but then AFTER the brakes were done & I got the bill it was $200 higher (I realize and estimate is just that) however $200 when they couldn't get the ones quoted so got the more expensive ones, without telling me First! Considering I am barely surviving on SS (which they were aware of my financial constraints) but even if not...they should've told me BEFORE they did the job giving me the option to reschedule!! It wasn't a dire emergency! It wouldn't been the smart decision...it's just poor business sense if one really cares about retaining a customer! On top of that, the rotors unlike the front ones which aren't near as bad, have the greatest amount of brake dust I've ever experienced on my 19 yo car...it accumulates in less than 2 days! They constantly need Cleaned it's so horrendous and unsightly...and for $200 MORE?!?! Plus they Screech when I brake!! Unacceptable & Inexcusable!! They said the wheel bearings and both tie rods needed to be replaced. I also signed up for the top tier $125 auto detail (more on that later). I agreed to replace the wheel bearings and both tie rods and wheel alignment. Paid a good sum of money for this repair. Within nine months my front passenger tire was completely bald and close to blowing out. Took it to Tire Kingdom to get a new tire and alignment. They couldn't do the alignment because the tie rods were shot. Both sides. So why didn't the repair I had paid for last? Going back in time to the visit to PC Auto: They were supposed to detail my car the day of the repair. They weren't able to do the exterior work (waxing, etc) because there was a very bad storm. Which ok, that was fine, no big deal. When I got into my car to leave, I noticed that the interior detail was extremely deficient. Granted, it was super dirty. I'm a single mom of a very special-needs child, the last thing I have time for is cleaning my car. So I paid for the top detail package. For instance, just using the steering wheel as the point I'm choosing to use as an example, rather than listing all the interior areas neglected, but the steering wheel hadn't been touched and was still so dirty that I took a napkin and rubbed water on a spot, leaving a clear circle showing it wasn't cleaned (that was just one area. I wish I could share the picture I took. It wasn't just a little difference, it was way blatant). I went back inside to let them know they didn't touch a lot of the interior (even the inside of the windows). They did a good job vacuuming and shampooing the carpets though! The owner (I understand there's two owners, a front store owner and a back store owner?) The back store owner ( I don't know if I'm phrasing that correctly) looked at it, annoyed with me, said "well you only paid for the basic." "No, I paid for the top one! And even the basic would clean the windows and steering wheel and door panel. Look, I can rub it off with water!" So they said they would finish it when I brought the car back to complete the exterior when the weather was better. I took my car back within a few days of the repair to finish the detail and also because I still heard the original noise that replacing the wheel bearings and tie rod was supposed to fix. The sound didn't happen when I rode with the mechanic, so they never identified it, but apparently it wasn't the wheel bearings and tie rod that I was told was the problem. (have since found out it was the brake backing plate, simple bending it solved the sound). So that day (I was very nice about this too!) they washed their hands of me. They refunded my money for the auto detail. I figured, okay, they gave my money back, I got a partial detail... I'll let it go and move on. But when I found out that the repair I paid good money for didn't last (what, six months tops?) and I had to get all new tie rods and an alignment all over again, and a new tire (!), realizing I wasted a lot of my hard-earned money on them and had to go through this repair all over again, and pay for it again, I'm pissed and not keeping quiet about it anymore. Palm City Auto did me wrong. Even though I was super nice about the whole thing, they washed their hands of me, and then I find out that it was all for nothing. Not cool.

I left my car with these guys for 3 months to replace my radiator, change out hoses, replace a…read moreclutch pin, change out fluids, perform a tune-up with new plugs, timing, and a carburetor rebuild (per Ron). $8000 worth of work at $140 per hour. Following completion of work my buddy collected the car and had it transported to me in Franklin, TN. First drive produced sputtering, black smoke, high idling, and poor gas mileage. In addition there was a tear in a newly upolstered driver's seat, permanently creased plastic windows on my new top from being left down in the wrong position for 3 months, and a missing cap on a directional. Shaun answered the phone and told me all mechanical issues were due to a 600 foot elevation change (happens around 8000 ft, not 600 ft) and that even after an $8000 repair job they don't have time to test drive the vehicles after service (must be done after a carb rebuild), and that they were not taking any responsibility for damages to the vehicle. It gets better. After inspecting the vehicle, the plugs were all gapped differently and incorrectly for my 1976 Triumph TR6. The carburetors had never been rebuilt, and the points were not gapped correctly. Also, the rocker cover could not be freed up and could not possibly have been removed to reset the valves. Ron called me back about my concerns and tried to blame my buddy for not using the choke correctly, thus undoing all not his work. I explained that my buddy collected vintage cars which all have to be started with a manual choke, so that excuse wasn't valid. I explained it had only been driven 30 miles. I then told him I checked the plugs myself which appeared to be very old ( I supplied new plugs) and that none were gapped correctly. He had no explanation other than Shaun had worked on this side of the engine. When I questioned Shaun's reason for the poor engine performance he again blamed the driver. Then I told him I sent pics of the carbs to a TR6 forum and took the car to someone familiar with Stromberg carbs. When he heard that someone else looked at the carbs he then admitted he had never rebuilt the carbs, which he billed me for 8 hours at $140 an hour plus a $200 rebuild kit. Claimed he forgot to remove the charges. He had personally called me to collect this particular charge before releasing the car, so how would he forget to remove the charge? Wait, it gets better. He offered to refund me 50% of the charges on the carb rebuild, not 100%. I asked why he would keep half of the charges on work never performed and suddenly I was offered the full $1300 refund. He wasn't even going to admit that he had not done the work until I told him another professional told me the work was never done. Is this an honest person making an innocent billing error. Based on the valves not being adjusted, plugs looking old and not gapped correctly, and the points wide open (yes, I could have done my own work but didn't have the time), it is obvious I was being taken for a ride since they knew I wouldn't be there to inspect the car before it was shipped to me in Tennessee. Pretty sure they figured I knew nothing about cars. I was not refunded for the other work that was obviously never done. The only reason I have not called the police and reported fraud is that I am not going back to Stuart, Florida again. Ron and Shaun shouldn't be trusted. I just sold my practice, Lively Orthodontics after 30 years of business in this town. Anyone that knows me in Stuart knows that honesty, integrity, and quality were the cornerstones of our business. I am appalled that any business would try to get away with charging for work never done. Buyer beware.
