Delightful Eggs Benedict to start the day
    Greg B.

The rooms here are spacious and very quiet and comfortable. The staff is attentive and responsive. The location of the hotel, overlooking lovely Blythswood Square park, is perfect for sightseeing, with close proximity to tony Sauchiehall Street shops. The morning buffet and a la cart breakfast is superb: be sure to enjoy the fresh croissants and eggs Benedict. This hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway.

This restaurant as you go into on the ground floor is like a sushi bar Japanese restaurant. Very dull. The waiting staff do try their best ok I give them that. The food is basic not 5 stars. Customers I noticed are basic too. Saw the odd posh couple. I won't be back

This girl loves a good proper pamper and The Blythswood has been the setting for many of these sessions in Glasgow. The Blythswood Square Spa offers a subterranean retreat in the middle of the hustle and bustle Scotland's largest city. Modern sleek lines and contemporary design, it's the ideal sanctuary for road warriors and work-worn urban professionals. As a former dancer, I have had the pleasure of having my feet seen to by their podiatry clinic. My often calloused feet are transformed into baby-soft perfection. Their thermal spa experience is the ultimate escape for the evening or a weekend spa day. If you're not a regular user of saunas and spas, you'll enjoy the detoxifying effects steam has on your skin. Their spa lunches are fairly standard--what you'd expect from any respectable cafe. The only negative experience happened a while back. I was booked in for an ila Spa Day, which included a Chakra Well-Being treatment. The day was complete bliss until up to the very end. As part of the treatment hot oil is poured over the forehead (third eye). The therapist warned me it would be warm (as it was also described on the treatment menu), but I hadn't realised that it would be hot (very hot that I felt my delicate skin sizzle). A few days passed after the treatment and I noticed the spot where the oil was poured left a scar. Obviously I got in touch with the spa to express my anxiety and disappointment (especially for a £200+ treatment). After several communications back and forth, the best the manager could offer was to purchase a tube of aloe vera from Holland and Barrett. I ended up seeking medical advice and treatment from a dermatologist while I was visiting family in NYC. After being burned and left with a scar from Blythswood Square's ila Chakra Well-Being treatment, it took a few microdermabrasions and chemical peels to lighten the scar. If there is hot oil being poured, proceed with caution... Otherwise the Blythswood is a convenient urban retreat.

Beautiful restaurant, very decadent. We had 2 course market lunch(£18.50) Pate was lovely but served with only 1 very small slice bread. Chicken with wine jus and mushrooms served on bed of mash was tender and tasty but lukewarm Extra veg(£3.95) was tiny portion but needed to fill the plate Wine ,once poured for the first time, was not poured again Service poor with no visible staff On leaving we had to collect our own coats from hanger On the whole, a nice enough lunch but lacking in service which you would expect from a high class establishment

It was a long time since I wanted to go to the cocktail bar at the Blythwood Hotel. Such a treat! We got a bit confused at first and tried getting a seat into the restaurant on the ground floor, but then got redirected to the first floor where the cocktail bar is. I was craving an Irish coffee, and none of the festive cocktails would take my mind off it (although they really seemed gorgeous). So Irish coffee it was, and it was delightful. My friend had one of their festive cocktails with bubbles, and I can't remember what...I know it was second on the list (visual memory!) and he very much liked it as well. And then a second Irish coffee ensued, as you do, because it's Christmas day and you just have to. Staff members were very friendly and service timely. The premises are just lovely as well, and the atmosphere very elegant and chilled at the same time. Don't hesitate going for a festive or non-festive drink, for an occasion or just out of a whim, you will love it!

A tremendous hotel. Excellent rooms, food (try the Buccleuch fillet), cocktails (try the Black Pearl), and spa (try the tepiderium)!

Next time, I promise! The Lighthouse is tucked down Mitchell Lane and has a wonderful gift shop on the ground floor. I am a certified museum-gift-shop addict and this one is nearly as good as the one at GOMA. At the moment, they're selling some great stuff to accompany the "Hello My Name is Paul Smith" exhibition and I couldn't resist getting a couple of the pencils, an eraser as well as a nice card from the range. There's a lot of nice Scottish stuff if you're looking for a gift so it's worth a browse even if you're not planning on going to an exhibition. We were there to see the Paul Smith exhibition which is on the first floor and ticketed at £6 per adult. While I think the price is a little steep, it's a fab exhibition which was really interesting, stimulating and thought-provoking - I think we were only there for half an hour or so, but really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later for a visit to the viewing platform so I'll update accordingly! But for now, I'm already a massive fan so I can't expect the rating to change for this lovely gallery.

Much of the museum is free to access, including the permanent Charles Rennie Mackintosh exhibits and the tower. Architecture is usually the theme of most of what they're showing off, although design in general is also showcased here, especially when it's by local and Scottish artists. On the ground floor there's a fantastic gift shop with lots of Mackintosh themed gifts. Usually they have items related to other exhibits as well. There's a cafe on level 5 too and although I've not visited it in a while I remember it being light and spacious and selling pretty darn good carrot cake. It's a really cool gallery to learn a little about the history of design and architecture in Glasgow, as well as learning about some more modern themes. It's also a great place for those views from the tower to get your bearings (although it's an awfully long way up a spiral staircase, so if you don't like heights it may not be for you). For me, on a sunny day, it's one of the highlights of the city centre. If you're visiting Glasgow or you have guests in Glasgow and you find yourself in the city centre then I'd say a stop at The Lighthouse is well worth the time. It would be a shame to miss out on such a cool place.

Tourists would flock and photograph it from every angle, creating albums on Facebook entitled "Me at St Andrews in the Square" to a sea of thumbs ups from friends who like it. Instead, this lovingly-restored 18th century church is inconspicuously located in among modern east end flats and virtually impossible to stumble across unless you are specifically looking for it. And what a pity, because when it's lit at night, it provides one of the most spectacular photo opportunities in the city. Those who do know this building, know it's one of the greatest classical churches in Europe with a truly sumptuous interior. Now used as a performing arts centre, St Andrews in the Square can also be hired as a spectacular setting for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings and receptions. Just go. Lots of writing space in the room, I would move into one of these rooms for the chalk board walls alone. Cover them with equations like a scene from Num3ers. When you arrive, you might be confused (like I was) at where to actually go - there are signs promoting the spa and so I thought that was the hallway I was walking down - thankfully it wasn't and it was actually the restaurant space where I was headed. The restaurant space is very slick and modern but feels like a corporate canteen. I wasn't eating on this visit but they have a set price menu of £7.95 for two courses at lunch time which I assume is from the buffet area. I was in for a meeting and service was fine - they popped over to check on drinks and delivered a jug of water to the table. I found the seats at the high tables really uncomfortable. There is also normal seating though so you could move if you'd ended up at one by accident. 200 St Vincent Street also has a spa (on level 7) and has a number of corporate rooms for hire for presentation and weddings. You order and pay at till points up next to food, baked potato ovens etc. and then a number is given to you to stick on a stand on your table. The lunch menu had 4 or 5 main course options and none of them took my fancy (fish & chips, Caesar salad, gnocchi) and I honestly just wanted to leave and head somewhere else for lunch. Then we saw the pizza on the menu - it was under a different section and I'd originally thought it was the desserts - and went for those. At over £11 for a small pizza, they weren't overly offensive but certainly not worth going back for. The waitress who served us was nice and friendly but it was her first day and every question we asked resulted in her checking with someone else. We also noticed that coffees seemed pricey, with lattes listed at £4 on the menu. I did see a few people have afternoon teas, these looked lovely with sandwiches, cakes and scones but I doubt I'll be back to try them out for myself.
