Jazz at LACMA is a weekly summer must!…read more There's nothing like enjoying the cool evening air with smooth jazz at LACMA. Every Friday from May through September, live jazz fills the Smidt Welcome Plaza, with a new performer each week (check the website for upcoming acts and food truck/vendor lineups). We felt lucky to visit when Betty "Cool Miss B" Brown received the L.A. Jazz Treasure Award from the Los Angeles Jazz Society. Performances start at 6pm, but I highly recommend arriving at least an hour early, Bring your own food and drinks for a perfect picnic. The earlier you get there, the better chance of snagging a seat in the plaza; otherwise, there's plenty of lawn space and additional tables nearby. Food trucks and vendors are set up just behind the plaza. It was so much fun to see everyone relaxing, dancing, and simply enjoying the music. My son and I were vibing the whole time. Seeing him feel the music was a special memory that took me back to when I first discovered jazz. Definitely core memories unlocked. We can't wait for next week's event! (Just be aware parking is $24, but otherwise, we loved every moment of Jazz at LACMA.)

Yikes! Yeah, that was our first impression which was bad Overall, This was such a waste of time. We were very unimpressed by the exhibits. All this post, modern art is quite rubbish. People making random scribbles and throwing paint on it is art? My three-year-old niece can give me that for free. The figurines and statues are grotesque. They have way too many rules about what to wear and how you carry your backpack. And the payment you make only permits you to go to certain areas. Very unimpressed by their collection Totally regret coming here and will never go back

They were right on both counts, but I'll try to do better for you. It's very dark inside, with small, maze-like rooms. In fact, it's so dark that some of the exhibit descriptions are hard to read. I wish I'd taken the guy at the front desk up on his offer to borrow a penlight. Some of the audio exhibits didn't work, but that didn't matter a lot, since most of the exhibits were meant to be read. Here are some of the exhibits that stood out to me: - I loved learning about the geometry of Islamic architecture. - The dioramas depicting trailers and RV's were pretty cool, as were the historical description. - Those poor but heroic Soviet space dogs! - Historical superstitions. Perhaps that's why I have a picture of my grandfather as a toddler in a dress! - The bell wheel. Wow. I told my husband we need to make one. - Too bad no photos are allowed in the museum. I would have loved to take some pics of the doves in the tea room so I could paint them at home. - Look through the microscopes and try to figure out how they did that! It's a unique place and I look forward to taking some of my nerdier relatives there sometime.

Every Sunday, they have different comedians and it's called "Chocolate Sundays". Mostly a lot of African American comedians are performing for Chocolate Sundays. They really make me laugh. It's 2 items minimum for drinks. I had the Blackberry Whiskey sour ($18), and bottled water. My friend also had the same cocktail and bottled water. Service by Sarah was great in every way! I can't comment on the food, because we had already eaten. I have had their food in the past, and it's just OK. Bar food. What do you expect? She invited me for her birthday and normally the tickets are $20 for each person. Parking is valet, $17.00. We parked outside. I HATE valet, and don't trust them from previous experiences at different places. Place is very clean, bathrooms needed attention. If you ever get the chance and the opportunity, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. They had 2 shows. We went to the one for 9pm, since the 7pm one was already sold out. We wanted to go to the 7pm one. Oh well, it was still a fine, great outing with a friend who I hadn't seen in a long time. She doesn't like taking pictures, so we didn't take photos. Thank you Laugh Factory for your great hospitality and humorous comedians. They always deliver!

All kinds of different people would come in here, and they took Korean classes and it was a community like no other place I have ever seen in Los Angeles. Then one day, it was ALL OVER. When Covid began in March 2020, which was over 6 years ago, it became online courses only. Now, their course availability is STILL mostly online-only, with the exception of 2 or 3 classes. It's a HUGE PITY that KCCLA doesn't welcome back its community of Korean-learners. We used to share meals with the teachers and the office workers and the classmates would chat and network before lessons while sharing a meal. The online courses that are offered by KCCLA are NOT good. I've tried them multiple semesters and they're just not good. Many of the people who take KCCLA's online courses don't even live locally. This used to be a local hub, and now it's online low-quality classes with students who live out of state or out of town. What did the students and community here do for you to be so determined to keep us out and away ?

I will post photos since a picture is worth a thousand words. In one session, the audience is asked to shout out random words and the puppeteers must create a witty skit by incorporating the random words that can get rather racy. Cocktails, beers, wine are on sale on the outside courtyard and can be taken inside where there is table seating. 2 hours went by quickly. Limited street parking, and as usual, check the street signs for any restrictions. Former studio of Herb Alpert and originally set up by Charlie Chaplin, this is historic, hallowed ground. Kermit prominently stands guard and tips his hat from a rooftop position. There are stuffed animals and puppets on sale too before the show. Usually 2 shows on the weekend and one show on Fridays. Limited engagements so look up on Puppet Up! website for the latest shows. 4 stars and a good excuse to visit another Hollywood over the top venue, Miceli Ristorante for décor that is visual overload.
